Not quite on the injury couch

I have a grumble!

I am 58, never been very athletic but a few years ago I took up running. I normally do 20ish +km per week.

I have a grumble in a muscle down the front of my leg possible the Rectis Femora. Most of the time it is not noticeable. If I stand up and hold my leg out in front of me it is uncomfortable but if I lift my knee it is OK, showing extra effort of the extended leg is enough to aggravate it. So it is not really a "biggie". Sometimes when I run it gives a little tweak from time to time but it is something that goes again. Sometimes I feel it right at the top of my leg right where it meets the hip joint. When I occasionally have a bad cough it seems to pull on it. From time to time there is a small inflammation 1/3 of the way down it comes and goes, sometimes I cannot find it.

I am actually off to the docs tomorrow and will bring it up there but in the meantime has anyone had anything similar?

Thanks in advance

Jonathan

I hurt my hip last September during a hilly half marathon. I had groin pain and back pain, also knee pain from it. Miserable few weeks but rest and painkillers saw it off.

I’ve always got a niggle somewhere on my body on any given day. I think it goes with the territory. If it’s pain that doesn’t go away, or is sharp, I’d be seeking advice 🙂

Good luck at the docs 🙂👍

Update.....may help others. According to the doc I have done some damage in the past. The lump is fluid and nothing to worry about but will take some time to heal. Don't strain it. I stopped short of saying I have a plan to run 21kms on Sunday though.

But you won’t, I take it?

I have been running for probably 2 months with this, it does not seem to get worse when I run, some of the extensions I do in strength and flex and TRX aggravate it, I will drop those and see how it goes.

Well that’s good, in that you know now 🙂

Hopefully it’ll clear up on its own. Soon! 🙂👍
