Just…so…tired…

I decided to take some recovery time in the first week of October. I’d run further than I’m used to during September and tired legs and a clicking knee nagged at me to slow down a little.

The thing is, October seems to exhaust me. I’m not sure what happens, but tiredness hits like a huge wave. The week with ‘one run day’ only has turned into two. Any good recovery is becoming lethargy. And, unusual for me, I don’t want to get out of bed.

Am I going into hibernation? 🤔 As I seem to get like this often in the autumn, perhaps so? This may also account for the non stop snacking…😂

Looking back at Strava and Garmin records this is where exercise drops of a cliff every year. So! I need a plan to get through the next three months awake and not carrying as much weight as a hibernating grizzly.

Anyway, I’m just off to get my blankie, a Kitkat and a packet of crisps while I think about it. Snore…….

I know exactly what you mean Comfort. I think it’s the change in the light levels. I’m exactly the same. Dull days are a energy sapping nightmare. I got a SAD light last year and it does seem to help.

That’s a good idea, TailChaser. Nice to get the feedback that it might help 👍

Yes, it is a bit of an investment unfortunately but it’s worth it if it works. Cheaper than moving to where the sun doesn’t go down in the winter anyway! Hope it does the job for you 🤞🤞

Ooooh, I know what you mean!. We've been lucky and have had lots of sunshine which has helped keep me going. But as the days get shorter ... never mind, we'll all wake up again in spring 😊

I always enjoyed being warm and running in bright sunshine BUT in these uncertain times it's never been more important to work on our immune systems and that includes running in dark and cold days. 😎

You’re absolutely right. A positive way to think.

Indeed! And whilst I may not wake up til spring - I'll still be running!

I’m a bit strange - I think. I like the darker evenings!🤷‍♀️ I also prefer running through the autumn and winter months!🏃‍♀️🙂

There's nothing strange about it. Remember, there's no such thing as bad weather, only bad running clothes. 😉

There's a definite shift at this time if year. The messing about with the clocks always gets me.

I just try to push through the first few weeks and then somehow it all becomes a bit more normal. 🤞🏻

Maybe we’re subconsciously preparing to hibernate. Laying down fat stores and wanting to sleep more, dark nights and mornings too ☹️

I’ve put four pounds on which I’d like to shed before my marathon. I can’t blame snacking though ☺️

I like seasons! 😃 I suppose it’s cos I grow veg so am programmed to look forward 🙂. I like autumn and winter running. It’s just running with different clothes on 🏃‍♀️

Eating better and sleeping more is best all round, so if you can crack those two you should feel energised 💪

Having a running plan helps me. If I don’t have one I start flopping about like a fish out of water

I hope you’ll get your niggles sorted and soon be back out there 👍💪

I agree about a plan, also flop about without a goal. It’s just that I’ve finished a couple of things and thought not having anything too structured might be a nice changePerhaps a mini plan… 🤔😊

Why not! Enjoy the planning 😃👍

We're now past the equinox and there's less daylight time than night time. It's natural to feel a little sluggish.

I'm finding myself with less incentive to get out and do an early morning (before 9am) run.

Daylight savings for this side of the Atlantic changes back on the last Sunday of October, which happens to be the last day of October this year. In North America it happens a week later.
