Fast - update

So, I fasted yesterday and there is a definite improvement in my knees this morning.

I went out last night and did 20 mins of speed intervals just to get my legs moving faster (haven't done any speed stuff since I started up since the IC). Also as I hadn't eaten all day, no way I was running a long way :D

Anyway, I digress! I have 2 "knee" tests when I get up

Firstly my bed is about 10cm off the floor, so getting up from there is test 1 (no pain)

Then going down 14 stairs is test 2 (no pain).

So it seems fasting (well I ate 2 apples and 10 cherry tomatoes, so not a complete fast) made a difference to the joints, but I have calf muscle aches from the speed intervals

Obviously I don't know if it is the fasting in itself, or something that I normally eat (gluten, dairy, etc.) which is making the difference, but at this point, I will make an appointment with my doctor. He is currently on holiday and a locum is there, but this is something I want to take to him as I've known him for 18 years and he listens to me.

In the meantime, I may try a few more tests - like eliminating gluten for a couple of days, or dairy, etc. so I can get more of a handle on what is making the difference, or try another fast day if food elimination doesn't work.

Interesting times!

Hmm interesting. Are you keeping a diary? Just thinking there may be many variables. It will be interesting to work out what it is, keep us informed

No, not keeping a diary yet, but I will sort that out in a few days, I want to get a plan in place (I love a plan :D )

I just bought a little notebook and I'm now writing about my runs and how I feel and anything really. i put a body and a mind index too. I'm thinking it's good to reflect and it's something I can look back on later and see what works. Weirdly I have decided I dont really like plans, well I loved C25k and Bridge but now I want the freedom. Everything else in my life is in a plan so maybe it's just the contrast I seek

I like a plan whenever I'm doing something new, or need to work something out

Once I get the hang of it, I'm happy winging it

I suppose I'm not exactly winging it but I try and think about how I feel on each run bit like Courtney Dauwalter without the skill...

I was looking out for this, thanks for the update, i’ve always thought eliminating dairy and gluten too strict it never occurred to me to try one at a time I’m glad it made a difference for you

It may still be a coincidence, but the clues at the moment are too strong not to ignore!

I have a friend whose son is autistic and she swears that gluten makes a difference to his moods too

I have a lot of reading to do and a lot to learn here I think :D
