Well, I've signed up for another Garmin Coach plan, even though the last couple haven't worked out too well for me - gotta get lucky at some point right? This one is for my HM in October, I chose coach Amy because she works on distance not time, but it took me a while to work out why her scheduled runs are such odd distances - like 6.44 KM yesterday - it's translated from miles!
Yesterday was the first run, I did another parkrun test for another new route, and had to keep running when I got to the finish to get to the correct distance, that felt a bit weird!
Tomorrow is a big jump, 12.77 KM (8 miles) and it feels a bit scary....but I shall have some company along the way...Cambridge has a new art installation called Cows about Cambridge, decorated life sized cows and much smaller mini-moos dotted all over the city, and I have volunteered to keep an eye on them and help keep them clear of graffiti and litter, so that will help keep me occupied I think...
I like the idea of a coach going for distance, not speed...and counting the cows you spot is going to be a good distraction. Let me know if they are worth a visit please.
Not had a chance to look yet but will this evening... I'm Suffolk, near Dunwich /Southwold... 2 hours from Cambridge but I'm fairly often on the A14 going past to get to the A1....they sound worth a look. There were dragons in Norwich a few years ago...wonderful.
Interesting you choosing Amy and a distance based rather than time. I am doing Greg's hm plan (starting week 12 of 16 tomorrow) and I put an optimistic (for me) time goal in . Keeping up with the plan but some difficulties with progression runs. Running faster at the end of a long run😅 lol . Will follow your progress interest and perhaps have a look at that training route when I start my next plan.
How many weeks to your hm in October? Which one are you doing?
Mine is on 1 August - London Landmarks - IF we can travel to the UK without isolating. We'll see.
I did Greg's 10K plan, his easy runs were 45 mins, or a bit longer, but being a slow runner I mainly did 5K runs. When I didn't meet the pace target he told me to cancel my race...I was mighty pee-d off with him....what about still running but not expecting to get to your target? Enjoying the race anyway? getting your moneys worth? I know Amy will get me running longer than the HM distance, no matter how long it takes me..
Yes, I saw you mentioned he said to cancel. But you are right, the chance to race is worth trying and timing a second requirement. I dont think I will meet my training plan time goal but I am just doing the plan so I feel I have trained specifically for the HM. I have run HMs before so not worried about the distance however long it takes me to run it!
You have plenty of time before your planned HM in Cambridge so enjoy the training
I've done two HMs , one a real race that I Galloway-ed, one a virtual that I ran most of, but had to walk towards the end. I'm hoping to run all of this one
The heck with Greg, whoever he is He might be a great runner, but Our CG2 runs great Enjoy the day, enjoy the run - long or short - enjoy the whole experience
Well done for signing up to your weird and wonderful distance plan! And some cows 🐄 en route will moo you along I’m sure. We have an otter 🦦 trail here for people to spot out and about, which has been good fun. 😊😊😊
Good luck with the plan. I tried the 5k one with a realistic target and Amy, but it was going to take too long (15 weeks) and I have signed up for the virtual London Marathon, so had to curtail Amy. Will try it again after October. It’s a shame Garmin don’t do a marathon one like the HM, 10k & 5k ones. I am trying to do their marathon plan but have had to do the heart rate one to get speed guidance from my watch.
