Last week I ran just under 9 miles by 100m. I was really annoyed with myself. I run using metric, I guess a bit of a hang over from Couch To 5k wanting to see the magic 5k looming closer and closer - and now I am stuck on metric!
So as I finished my long run last week running 14.4k having done a bit of mental arithmetic I thought I had just squeezed in 9 miles. Once I realised my mistake it was obviously too late!
So today I had already checked my km to miles conversions before leaving home and targeted a 16.1k run aka 10 miles.
Having started to use gels to help me get my distance as I train for my HM in June I was pleasantly surprised to find that they do actually seem to work giving me a bit of a boost.
I am a bit of a slow plodder and have been doing around 8m/km long runs until recently so today I planned a 7:30/km long run and to see if I could get to 10miles.
I set off and after around 6-7km I realised I was on for a 10k PB not intended as the key was the distance today but when I clocked up the magic 10k I knew I had a PB in the bag and slowed up to make sure that I made the distance.
Once I got to last week's 14k I allowed myself a grin as I passed 14.5k (9 miles) - only a bit further! The last 2k was a bit of a grind but there was no way I was stopping.
I finished my 16.1k (10m) with a pace of 7:22 slightly faster than what I set out but the last 6k was clocking around 7:50 - something to work on to see if I can even that out.
For now I am over the moon at having run 10 miles - the furthest I have ever run - and now - I am beginning to believe that I can do my HM.
Now to see how to get my 10 miles badge π
