More than half way 😁

Today's training run was 42.5km in a smidgeon over 5 hours. I'm chuffed at having achieved another milestone πŸƒπŸƒπŸƒπŸ˜. Right now, the soles of my feet have the feeling of having taken a right pounding and I think my legs are going to complain if I ask them to do anything. It's going to be interesting attempting another 30k on top of that; hopefully, walking parts of it will help.

Tried using sandwiches for refueling today. There's no way I can run whilst eating them but they seem to be OK if I walk (although my tum didn't feel overly happy).

Can I have a badge without the word "metric" please?

That is some achievement SM! I hope you’re able to move tomorrow! Fantastic distance, one I can’t even imagine! πŸ˜…

Oh yes, I wonder why you were given a Metric Marathon badge? You certainly ran way further than that and deserve the big M! πŸ₯΅

Thanks Cheeky, I too hope that I can move tomorrow!

I've had the "Metric Marathon" badge for a while now, that was just my way of asking for a "Marathon" badge.

Ohhhh, I thought maybe it was an error. Our lovely admins aren’t prone to errors - I should have realised that!

Congratulations on your Marathon. I can't even imagine achieving such a distance -not just the run itself but the volume of training and commitment involved in achieving it ! πŸ…

SkiMonday profile image
SkiMondayUltramarathon in reply to Week7

Thanks Week7. Most of my preparation was made up of three 5k & one long run each week although two 5k runs each week would have probably done it (I wanted to include plenty of short, easy, runs). I guess it's the long run that takes up the time.

I got into the routine of doing a long run one week and a very long one the next. The long runs were always the same distance and the very long runs increased now and again. So, in effect, every other week was a cutback week (not that I considered that beforehand).

Happy running!

It's definitely a distance that takes some preparation for..huge dedication leading up to! The actual hydration and fuel with having to eat must be very awkward..

5 Hours running πŸƒ

Spectacular⭐⭐⭐

SkiMonday profile image
SkiMondayUltramarathon in reply to sparky66

I'm trying out fuelling and hydration as part of the training. Sandwiches and energy bars seem to work for me. On the event, I think the checkpoints will mean that my 1 litre bottle is enough. Mind you, it will be August so I might need more. Meanwhile, I need to carry more water on training runs.

I'm looking for a backpack which will take two of those water bottles, plus food and the manditory torches, maps and first aid kit etc.

Wow, impressive work πŸ‘...the idea of then doing another 30k on top of that sounds like crazy talk πŸ˜†Good luck with your training, you're certainly smashing it, but what now?

Surely not more than FM every long run? 😳

SkiMonday profile image
SkiMondayUltramarathon in reply to Run46

Thanks Run64. Well, I've 15 weeks to prepare so hopefully...

I'm banking on my training and on walking parts on the day.

Having gone through a number of training plans, my next step is to drop the one day distance but pair up days so maybe HM on Friday, 10k on Saturday and build that up. Planning on this coming week being a cutback week though.

Wow wow wow SkiMonday. Well done you. I really cannot imagine what running for 5 hours would be like, but I am waving pom-poms for you, in awe.

SkiMonday profile image
SkiMondayUltramarathon in reply to Dexy5

Thanks Dexy. Might sound a bit silly, but when I'm out for a short run, I sometimes wonder how I manage the longer runs.

Seems to help approaching it with an "I'm going to keep to an easy pace" mindset.
