Without a word of a lie, I just almost made myself sick in the pursuit of a sub 30 minute 5k. On my cool down walk my son (who hates running) ran past the end of the road. How does he made it look so easy!???!
Still, he didn't get those genes from his father.
He'd left the back door wide open and no one in ... hmm, he doesn't get those genes from his father either!

Oops, you're right ... but it's really good to know he was only a couple of seconds a kilometre faster and he didn't run as far π... mind you he still looks as fresh as a daisy too! Let it go Linda ... π
Ooh that reminds me, I passed the most beautiful blossoming tree on my way home yesterday, I thought I would go back soon to take a picture (it's only round the corner from home). I just couldn't bear the thought of stopping to drag my phone out of its pocket to snap it yesterday, which is proof of how much I needed to get home and have some lunch!!! π
Not to mention getting home for the beer!!! Today is officially UK blossom watch day, so snap it and post it and tag it. A day to be encouraged I reckon π
Funnily enough, we got back from our run this morning, just a quick stop to use the loo and pick up jackets before heading to the golf club for 2nd breakfast. Geoff locked the back door while we were in for about 5 minutes but left it unlocked when we went out again!
If I push myself like that, I don't feel sick but do find I dribble like an old man!! I bet if you converted your times into parkrun % scores, you'd be on top.
Well done! I continuously have 2 or 3 mins to shave off my 5k to get to 30 mins nevermind below that lol! But that's because I'm still no faster ever in getting up the first hill!! I have similar annoyance with husband.....gets up and runs 5k really fast from nothing after I carefully did c25k!!
Great attempt at sub 30min 5k, ignore your son, they have super charged batteries from all the great work motherβs put in to bring them up. The door can definitely be blamed totally on him though. Happy running π€
Absolutely ... there's no joy to be had as a 60 year old exhausted mum trying to compare herself to her long legged, waited on hand and foot 22 year old son π€·ββοΈ I think I'll stick to blossom watching π
Iβm sure if you compare your running with your sonβs on an age grade basis, youβll be doing far better Linda. The closest Iβve got to 30 mins is 31.15 so I will be aiming for it for a while yet.
That's certainly true for yesterday as our pace was virtually identical. He described his as an easy breezy run, I've already said how it felt for me π€’π.You're really not far off 30 minutes there - it will happen when you least expect it. Yesterday the main battle was in my head, it's so often my mind that holds me back rather than my legs π
I constantly tell myself how lucky I am to be running at all, Linda π . I can still run the legs of my 30 year old son but is only a matter of time before that gets reversed. π
You seem to have made good progress since your hip injury. At least I think so.
The best thing is there seem to be no ill effects today! Ahah, good luck with the marathon training- you can definjtely do that. Yes, my big goal this year is a 32 mile Ultra in September π± I have a 10k two weeks before and a much deferred HM in October two weeks after π! First though I have a real live trail HM a week today. Nervous but also so excited for that atmosphere again. My daughter's boyfriend and her friend are doing the event too - thankfully the 10k though so no direct comparison required thank you very much!!!
Good to hear that you have no ill effects today. Thatβs quite a series of challenges there! π³ Good luck with them. Itβs great to have something to look forward to. π
Is it National Son Bashing Day and I missed it πππ. My younger son set out to run prodigious distances on successive days at high speed and without a proper build up. The results were spectacular, but brief; his times were amazing, but sadly achilles tendinitis followed and he resorted to exercising on a static bike in his garage! I blame too much testosterone. No dribble was spilled by this old man in the composing of this post ππ
