Hi, Anyone "suffer" from clicking knees? I have just noticed, may have been going on for some time, that, particularly first thing in the morning, my knees click when going upstairs. There is no pain or discomfort. I have made a cursory search on google and that says no pain or swelling normal. I am 57 run 20-30kms per week and have started supporting the billion dollar supplement sector by paying something exorbitant for Glucosamine and chondroitin though me heart is not really in that.
Any thoughts?

I take the glucosamine chondroitin from Tesco, which my husband buys 😃 I have painful arthritis in my big toe and I’ve found it’s fine now. If I forget to take it my toe reminds me, so I’m a fan 🙂.
I used to get really stiff after runs. Legs like concrete the day after a run, but I’ve got better as I’ve got stronger. I’m 63 and started running at 57
I try and keep my weight down, and I quit alcohol completely as it was causing painful joints
I found alcohol gave me sore joints too! I used to get a painful big toe which maybe could have been gout although I wasn’t in the typical risk category for that so who knows? I do know though that it went away completely after stopping drinking. I have an occasional drink now and that seems to be ok. MSM is another good supplement for joints.
On quitting booze I went to the pub and I began to drink J20 fruit juice. That was worse!!! 😳. So quit that too. I never drink juice of any kind now. I do eat fruit though
My OH went to the GP to ask about his clicky knees. The GP showed him his own clicky knees and sent him home. Quite funny as that's about the only GP visit my OH has had in all our married life! The sports massage guy that I see says it's ligaments catching over bone and quite likes making mine click! My hip too. Again no pain and he says no problem. Just hope he's right 🤪 I do take G&C religiously as it makes coming downstairs first thing in the morning so much easier, but no effect on the clicking!!!
My knees have always clicked! I can even remember my knees clicking kneeling down as a child so I’m reassured it not just down to getting older or too much running 😂 I remember a physiotherapist telling me it perfectly normal too.
Contrary to popular belief runners are less likely to get osteoarthritis in their knees due to stronger muscles are lower weight. MSM and sulphur are good joint supplements.
