May HM postponed to Sept - what to do about training?

Hello,

I’m three weeks into my 12-week (first) HM training and am not sure whether I should continue and then maintain until Sept, ease off the training for now (but still keep running), or something else.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Katie

I’d say see it through and maybe do it again. For my first HM I trained a full plan twice. It helped me refine certain things along the way and really relax on the race day. Maybe a similar approach could work for you?

I was going to suggest the same, I did the same for my first half, it gave me much more confidence for the real one. I just started a second training plan, adapted a bit as my weekly mileage had increased

Just stuck with the plan. See how it goes. That way you’ll be ready should another HM present itself.

You could always do your own solo event on the actual race day. You can get a virtual medal 🏅

Run and have fun 👍🙂

How do you feel about it? Does it feel like a relief? Or a let down?

If it's a let down just do your own HM in May and it will really boost your confidence for the event.

If it's a relief maybe you're not quite really in which case why not work towards 10 miles in this time, again to get that confidence up for the full plan?

These are all really helpful suggestions - thank you.

I’m feeling disappointed so will carry on and do a virtual HM around the same time.

Thanks again all!

Great that you are thinking of carrying on with your training. If you’re interested in a Virtual HM, have a look here:

virtualrunneruk.com/

Their races are well priced, donate to small charities and have result boards - so you can see your time logged with everyone else’s (if you like that sort of thing! 🙂)

Good luck with your training! 👍

I'd stick with the plan, you never know what might happen in the meantime, you might be glad of a break for some reason, and if not as MW says go virtual, treat yourself to a medal!

This is what I'm doing BTW, the Cambridge half has been put back to October, there's a virtual event going on and it'll be good training for later in the year. I've enjoyed the plan anyway, and I also intend to do another plan before October like Decker.

If you are having fun training and were looking forward to the event why not do a virtual run for charity? Happy running 🤗

Same comments as others really. I’m also on week 3, so I have signed up for a virtual HM end May to keep me on track, otherwise I’d just lose any focus. Have a look at suggestions above and hopefully might inspire you too.

Stick with it! Give it your best shot in 9 weeks. The great this is, from May to September is enough time that you can reasllysee wild differences when you train for September again; and then you'll be able to see all of your progress!!
