Hi Folks, sometime during the last two weeks or so I've seen and read a post asking for recommendations for winter running kit. Unfortunately, I didn't save the post & replies, and now I need to get some kit myself. If anyone read and saved the post, could they send me a link, please?
Many thanks,

Thank you for giving me some of your time in thinking about my post. We probably think in similar ways when it comes to searching for information. However, the post that I thought would be easy to find has become elusive. It contained a recommendation for a specialist running supplier and all the posts that others have directed me towards are not the one I'm looking for.
Yes thanks, I've tried that but without success. I think I'll have to let it go now. An important lesson has been learned, which is to save posts when they contain information that could be useful to me in the future.I reflected in my reply to mattconway1984 that perhaps a noticeboard listing retailers other members had used would be a useful 'goto' for initial information on running kit. Would this be a possibility?
We do have a 'Shoes & gear' board, but it is pretty empty at the moment because it requires the writer of the post to add the shoes & gear 'Topic' to their post. healthunlocked.com/marathon...
Please remember that anything like this takes up time we don't necessarily have. If you would be interested in helping us populate the 'Shoes & gear' topic more fully that would be great!
But in any case, it is pretty easy to look through posts on this forum because there aren't many of them! I have this morning scrolled down through the last month's worth of posts on here and did not see any post that could fit your description (other than the ones already mentioned in this thread). It IS possible that the post was deleted though.
However, I also would like to re-suggest that you saw this post elsewhere. I have also had a look again on Bridge and found another relevant post: healthunlocked.com/bridgeto...
Once again, thanks for the leads, though I've searched posts in both the forums and drawn a blank.
I didn't know about the 'Shoes & Gear' board, which I'll try to populate with whatever information I discover. Could the board be provided with a link on forum noticeboards so that other members can see it and contribute too? (I really don't want to add to the sterling work the Admin team volunteers, for which we're all really grateful) And of course, as you pointed-out, the post could have been deleted!
That's why I posted my thanks earlier and asked for any further searches to be abandoned. I've learned a valuable lesson here. Save posts for future reference.
It's such a pity! I can only think the post must have been deleted.
Sadly it is difficult to highlight the topics because of the way this site is designed. We could put a link to certain topics on the Weekly Chat posts, but I wouldn't want to have too many such links in those posts because they can very easily become too long and difficult to read. So we would have to figure out which of the topics to highlight. I will have a think...
For most of winter (2-8degrees) I run with 7" Adidas "run it 3 stripes PB" shorts, a thin adidas "own the run" running t-shirt and a bright orange dhb waffle hoodie.... When it's really cold (night runs, or below zero) I have a pair of zone3 compression tights (they tend to stay up better than non compression tights)..... If it's slightly mild I drop the t-shirt.
Thanks for your suggestions, which are very helpful. However, the post I'm looking for contained a recommendation to a particular supplier. And despite all the useful suggestions I've received, none of the posts have those details.
Perhaps it might be useful for the future if we could have a noticeboard with runners' suggestions about retailers they've found particularly relevant to purchasing kit?
Thanks to everyone who has offered suggestions for me to try in retrieving this post. I'm grateful to the community who have invested time and effort with these suggestions.
I've learned an important lesson with this search, and that is when I see a post that might be useful to me in the future, I should SAVE it. Not read and pass by and then hope I can retrieve it at will!
So, the time has come to abandon this search. Many thanks again to all you WONDERFUL people!
Using shops like Lidl or Aldi is great if you're comfortable with going to them during the pandemic. But, as a person identified as 'extremely clinically vulnerable' this isn't an option for me or others similarly affected by their illnesses. Consequently online purchasing is the only safe approach.
And I'm quite shocked by the eye-watering prices one has to pay for a waterproof & windproof running jacket. Is the technology really that expensive to utilise? The prices could be justified if these garments were manufactured in the UK , but generally they aren't.
I could go on at length on this subject but you could predict all the points I'd make!
I got some running longer shorts delivered free from online today. Lots of bargains to be had.
I was warm in my Nike trousers today. These are ladies football ones. Footy stuff is cheaper than running gear for some reason 🤷♀️ Two zipped pockets, zipped ankles and tie waist. Warm lined and they’re about £18 They’re dri-fit though. Love em 🥰
You're right about Decathlon but they are inconsistent in the data they provide about waterproofness & breathability. On some garments they tell you what the water resistance value & RET is yest on others, like their Kiprun Warm Regul - a very good looking jacket - there's zero. Nor could they provide any data when I emailed them direct.
I think I'll resort to a bin liner with three cutouts for my arms and head - a cheaper solution and probably as effective. Still, thanks for your reply.
I’ve had a couple of these for years now. Warm and comfortable. Very lightweight. Pack up into a tiny pocket that you can carry in your hand. Technical specs don’t really count because there’s a mesh panel down the back.
