10k to Half Marathon training: Week 3 Run 1

Good afternoon from the UK! How is everyone doing?

I completed a 12km run this morning. Let me tell you I definitely had anxiety about this the day before, I don't know why. Maybe it's because i'm following a plan and normally I just run when I feel like, so there is some added pressure now. I needn't have worried though, dare I say it I found it quite easy. I told myself that if I wanted to, I could just stop, after all I have plenty of time to prepare. That was all the mental trickery my brain needed and somehow it became bearable, even enjyoable, which doesn't always happen as I run on my own. My speed was leisurely, and I could speak a decent amount for the most part. There was a good deal of ice and snow from the yesterday left over so I was definitely focusing on not slipping for a lot of it. I had an elevation of 65m overall which I think is somewhat hilly. All in all, I was just happy to complete it!

That's a fabulous run. Trust you plan, just as you once trusted C25K. So long as you take the long runs at an easy pace you will be able to build the distance according to your plan. You can do this!

Very true! Still can't quite believe that here I am working towards a HM. I didn't even have the capacity to dream of it when I started C25K!

Me either - I remember resisting the idea very strongly 😂

Well done you! Very hilly and icy too, your dedicated! I’m at a similar stage to you, aiming for 13K tomorrow. I was meant to run that on Friday but the plumber didn’t turn up til much later than he said 😏 then I did not have time to fit it in. I never thought I’d be getting antsy over not being able to run! I was frustrated til I squeezed in a 5K before work yesterday to tide me over.

You’re doing great, it is about believing the plan as Linda said. I worry without the structure of a plan I might miss a run then stop being able to run 🙈 For my 12K I ran my 6K loop of the village, my 4K route then just said to myself I’m just running 2K lol, the mind games we play! Happy running 🏃🏽‍♀️

All the luck for that run, Catho78! I'm just the same, going a few days without running makes me feel like I'm too sedentary. I definitely do the same mind games, after all we are physically capable of anything! 😆

Thanks. 13K completed 😉🥵 a few mind tricks and giving myself a pep talk for the final 2K as by then my legs were aching! Then Pink played on my playlist “There’s a road that takes me home ...” and I’m like, damn right lol. I was trying to run at a lower heart rate so a bit slower pace but comfortable overall. And the best bit ..., the long hot bath after running for 1hr50mins. Enjoy your next run, and your rest days 👍
