Good physio trip

Saw my physio this morning and, as ever, she put her finger on the problem(literally) in a flash. Tissue on the outside of my calf has been having to work extra hard to maintain stability because of the claggy state of the trails I run(with hills thrown in), and has ended up being a bit knotted! Slightly eye watering process of de-knotting, but with the application of a bit of ice and some loosening exercises she thinks it will be gone in time for a gentle 5k on Saturday. It all seemed to be focussed in a small area which had gone rock hard. I would never have shifted it with a roller. Knee is fine, nothing wrong with the mileage I am covering; so all good. Three cheers for brilliant physios πŸ‘

3 cheers indeed BC. A one hour session can save a lot of worrying and incorrect self diagnosis. Sounds like it will cause a minor blip on your journey to ultra running. πŸ˜‰

Ha ha; HM will do nicely thanks! One benefit of the problems I have had this year is that I am better able to distinguish between self fix and physio fix problems. I don’t waste time just resting something which needs treatment. 🀞 for Saturday.

Oh thank goodness for that BC! What a relief that this is just a temporary blip. Your physio sounds fantastic.

Will you be able to continue running up your hills and on your claggy trails, or did she recommend different terrain? The main thing is you can run! πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘πŸ˜€ πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Try keeping me off my hills and trails cheeky!πŸ™‚ My 5k on Saturday will be pretty flat, but if that is ok, I will get straight back to my usual routes. The tissue will just have to toughen up. Physio is hopeful that I can just slip back into the plan; if not, another appointment should fix it. We will probably have frosts to harden up the mud before long!!

You tell that tissue who’s boss! πŸ‘Š

πŸ™‚ In view of IPs comment, can I make clear that the tissue was flesh, not a paper one!πŸ˜‚

I’d seriously hope you could boss a paper tissue BC! 🀣 If not ....... 😳

Good news BC. Three cheers for physios! Maybe not while they've actually got their thumbs in those knots thoughπŸ€”

It was value for money BP. Charges are very reasonable for master’s degree level staff.

Great when there's a simple solution to something BC - and even better when it's a quick one!πŸ‘

It is JP. I tried my β€œit was the fall rather than the pace which caused the plica” argument; met with a straight bat....worth a try πŸ˜‰

It’s really the worst place to be when you are a runner

Awesome outcome and just shows that we need the professionals every now and then to get going once again free from niggles. Enjoy your 5k πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

well done! I went for my sports massage yesterday and you know when they've hit a knot... there is no doubt... I also thought rolling stretching is not enough and they do just go that bit deeper in a more constructive way I find. Well done for going and getting it sorted and enjoy your come back trot at the weekend!

Exactly CP2. They can feel where the problem is and deal with it; sometimes they have to move part of a muscle out of the way to hit the problem spot; much more precise than using a roller. I use the roller and a massage ball for general loosening, but diagnosing and fixing injuries is another matter.

Yes and the understanding of muscles ligaments and other body parts and how they link. Plus it’s nice for someone else to do the work!

Cheers GTFC. I think we learn something from each of these experiences which translates through into our running; in my learning to use a shorter stride with faster cadence, identifying particular exercises to deal with weak points and understanding how the different parts of the leg work together in a way which often means the site of the pain is different from the location of the real problem. Thank heaven for physios!!
