It’s the running down them!! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

Definite case of DOMS the last couple of days following my recent hilly trail run. Sore quads from more downhill running than these legs are used to, I think! Apparently extended downhills are tough on your quads due to eccentric muscle contractions. Here’s hoping they are more comfy tomorrow so that I can run!πŸ˜€πŸ€žπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

are you planning to go out with a buildozer then? or I suppose choosing a different route might be easier. This morning I went with flat and saw loads of runners. Now I know where they all are. I hardly see any on my usual loops ...

Yes, the downs are worse than the ups, I'd rather do a steep uphill any day and an easy incline down!

Try to vary your pace and stride (I do a kind of dance downhill, side to side, or goat like) 🀣 for this very reason.

Hot bath and self massage helps.

When I used to go up mountains I always found coming down much worse on my knees than going up. Muscles usually hurt more a day or two after the event. Hope they feel better soon.

I find running downhill much harder on the legs than uphill. In fact I walked downhill the other day because of the steepness and also because of the leaves.

I usually zig-zag down a steep one but I didn’t want to take a risk....

Hopefully your legs are running today Sandra πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ™‚

I enjoyed all the downhill - at the time!πŸ˜‰ They do feel much better this morning actually. I think the Epsom salts bath yesterday helped!πŸ™‚πŸ‘

You are 'doing bits' and I love it. You're becoming stronger and fitter and ready for so many different types of run now πŸ™‚

Awesome! Hope it was better today. Yes downhill overcooking is what started all my knee issues too. I’ve laid off the hills since then, but its probably time to get back to them

Hmm; just back from my weekly 154m gain 5k. Short sharp shock. Wet and blowing a gale today. I definitely prefer running down hill, arms out and short quick steps..,..I could have shouted β€œyeeee harrrrrr!! or similar today as there was nobody about to hear...but you never know!!

I don’t think that downhill running caused my knee problems, but once I had an injury, down hill runs were definitely off the agenda until the knee was fixed. I think your run was an epic effort Sandraj, a bit of soreness is a small price to pay.

Yep, my past knee issues were not caused by hills either - and the quads are fine again now thanks! πŸ‘ It was worth it though, just for the views and the sense of satisfaction afterwards!😊

Well done on your 5k too - sounds like a good one!πŸ’ͺπŸ™‚

Ups and downs are essential to practice and different technique is needed for each. If you fail to do it right when running downhill you either bust your knees through heel strikes or you fall flat on your face. The ones who are the best when running downhill at full speed? The ones who are naturally not afraid to fall down. The ones who run by holding the same body position as they do on a flat surface. I can't do that. All I think of is falling over. Lol
