Training session Alternatives

Lucyintheskywith profile image

Hi all, i am looking for some recommendations for training session apps ? What do you enjoy using, recommendations please...

I ask as we're only allowed to train x1 per week with our local run club now, instead of x2. ..So looking for an alternative to get my weeks ahead completed.

You could try the Nike Run Club app (free) - lots of different guided runs on there

Which ones would you 100% recommend for speed / strength training... ? What are your go to 's ?

I've only tried a few of them, others have more experience. I'm sure it will be a personal preference - try some, have fun, find what YOU enjoy the most because that's what will work best for you 😊

I’d agree with linda9389 I use the NRC app. Lots of different training types and lengths on there. Good luck!

You could try the 5x5x10K or the 8K Tempo run. Otherwise ‘All over the pace’ is a good one for intervals. Good luck!🙂👍

I love JogRunSprint on iOS phones. I’ve set it up to do 30-20-10 seconds and run with a big grin on my face.

Not available for Android but if you search for a running interval app , there should be others. I do 10 mins warm up 30 seconds jog, 20 seconds run , 10 seconds sprint 5 times . Walk 5 mins then repeat.

Another vote for NRC, I started using it a week ago as I currently don’t have a structured plan and I love it! May use their HM plan for my next one too!

I’ve only done one speed run so far, but if you download the app there is a whole section of speed training runs ranging from about 5 mins to over an hour duration. I liked the way it focuses on how you should be feeling at 5k pace vs easy pace, rather than fixating on numbers.

NRC as well here!! My personal favourite is the "Two hard, one easy" - two minutes at 8/10, one minute at 5/10 effort level. I like this because I prefer continuous running to intervals where you stop between.

There's also "Two easy, one hard", which I also like / is the same kinda thing, which is more one minute at 9/10, and then two minutes slower running.

yep!

I basically went through all the speed workouts on NRC and then found which I personally liked :)
