Chicago Training Begins!!!

I've been waiting for this day since I found out in December that I was in the Chicago marathon, training finally begins!

Its been a hard few months, what with saving for my trip, working a second job, keeping my running going and looking after my boys, but I'm so pumped for training!!

I've gone with Hal Higdon again, and just done novice 2. I'm going to shoot for 4 hours 30 minutes as that was my target last year which I got nowhere near. If I can hit near that time I'll be happy.

The second job has been packed in, I've got a good habit going with strength training and nutrition, so fingers crossed it all goes well. Oh and I've purchased a bike so I can cross train, should arrive on Wednesday!

Thanks Al! I'm looking forward to getting my bike, my hope is that I can get rid of my car completely and just run and ride everywhere I need to go

Thank you, I'm buzzing! A few weeks of marathon training should drain that energy though lol

I felt really lost after finishing my training last year, so I've been anxiously awaiting this day!!

You got in as well!? Awesome! Have you done Chicago or an international before?

Got a good for age place. My first time doing anything overseas.

To be fair, I think you might of mentioned it before, my brain is a mess and barely remembers anything!

If only there was a "below average for age" I'd have no problem getting into marathons!

Are you going with family? I'm going alone as my kids will have school

I've kept quiet about it but it looks like the cat is out of the bag now. One of the few advantages of getting old is that good for age times are much more achievable. Hope the training goes well.

Wow, I’m getting major FOMO now. Chicago was mentioned to me as a good one a while back. Good luck to you both!

Best of luck on your training! It can seem like a chore sometimes but it's worth it.

I'll make sure not to take on too much, but to be fair I feel like running is being kind to myself so should be all good!

Wow Looklikejames, that’s brilliant! What an experience that is going to be. Hard to beat London but that will certainly give it, literally, a run for its money! Good luck with your training 👍

Thank you! I'd be surprised if chicago matches London to be honest, but I'm still very excited to go as it will be great. The only thing that will dampen things a bit is that I'm not going to miss my family for the four nights but hopefully it'll be OK
