I've noticed that since wearing face masks on a daily basis 8am - 5pm at work; my breathing is worse when I go running short or long distances.. then again tonight 3 x400m with 90sec recovery and breathing was again shocking.
Any thoughts ?
I know night air is colder too..
But...???

Gosh, unfortunately I don't wear them all day but suffering from Asthma, when I do it is difficult. Would breathing exercises help before a run? I try and breathe through my nose a lot when I run longer distances.
I regularly work on projects where mask wearing is required, often the masks are a lot more "invasive", we have seen no real detriment as a result of mask wearing. Both hot and cold effect me, when it is cold you are often pumping a lot more cold air into your lungs than you would not running, I should imagine that has something to do with it.
I wonder if you have somehow got used to more “shallow” breathing because of breathing differently with the mask. Your lungs might then be less prepared to be used fully in the way that running demands.
I must stress I have no medical basis for this. Just an idea.
