Tough as it seems at the time, injury is definitely not the end of the world π
One year and one day ago I restarted C25K after almost five months off with a stress fracture. Wish I'd realised before I ran 20k this morning as it could have been a very special run rather than just a great one π The best thing is that bone is currently keeping quiet (don't want to tempt fate too much) π€
If you're on the IC - or carefully returning from an injury - keep the faith, hang on in there, it's definitely worth the wait π€

Congratulations, Linda. I know what itβs like, and I know you must have been incredibly patient to get back to this point. Hereβs to many more years of injury-free running.
That is an inspiring post. I have an injury but I don't see myself on the couch just yet. It is a rest in running while I do some cycling instead! Always said i should do some more cross training, well here I am!
Just watch out you don't become addicted to cycling as well, which definitely happened to me! It's a great alternative to running though - you get all the fresh air, the post exercise glow, a whole new world of strava segments and a new sense of achievement too.
Patience is definitely a virtue Linda and you must have recovered correctly to now be able to manage such awesome runs (also not wanting to tempt fate).
Your HM must be coming up very soon on the back of that 20K π
Patience is a virtue which is very much in short supply in my case π. I no longer take 'injury free' for granted that's for sure, but equally I'm less scared of injury than I used to be too - I've had lots of practice!!! My new sensible head says, HM needs to wait to be sure all body part have sufficiently recovered from the 20k πππ
That's still a cracking distance to run so well done you! Gosh you must have felt at times that it'd be a struggle to get back and here you are π½ love it. Well done indeed.
I actually got back to HM in March this year - it took just under 6 months. This round of building back to HM has, thankfully, been less overshadowed by that injury !!! I just want everyone to remember that, tough as it seems at the time, injury is definitely not the end of the world π
I donβt think there would be any doubt about you getting back to it Linda. You are made of strong stuff, but as you say, the message is we can all recover from the IC. Well done. πππͺ
That was a really tough time. Trouble with a bad back is that it excludes most other forms of exercise until it heals. Got there in the end and Iβm being much more cautious now. Fingers crossed π€ it stays that way.
It may have been just the next run on your training plan, but for you looking back and remembering where you where a year ago, restarting after injury, acheiving HM distance after 6 months, staying strong and injury free (whispering so as not to tempt fate) this is a huge marker of your determination and fully deserves a celebration!π₯πΎ
I've been keeping the faith, well supported by you and this forum family, and now am tentatively taking those first rehab runs. Hoping to come back stronger and fitter as you have it would be great to be writing a similar celebration post a year from now... ( probably not after a 20k run thoughππ...butπ€who knowsβΊ!)
Who knows indeed!! You have had so long on the IC that your dedication and determination definitely wins star prize. You deserve the smoothest, most successful come back EVER π₯°
Thank you. I wanted to give anyone on the IC a moment or two of positive thinking, I know it's not always easy to keep your eye on the light at the end of the tunnel π
