Relief! Narrowly avoided the IC

After parkrun last week I developed a pain on the bottom and outside edge of my right foot. Tried to run on Monday, but it was just too painful. As my HM is on 15March, I rang the Sports Physio clinic. They didn’t have an appointment available until 3 March, but when I explained my predicament, offered me one this morning at 8.30. With rest and ice, it had improved but the diagnosis is a strained peroneal tendon. Apparently quite common in runners! I can’t run for a week but have been advised to walk for 30 minutes twice a day (hello dog!), then try a slow jog if it isn’t too painful. It’s taped up for 5 days and I’ve got exercises to do, but the lovely physio thinks I will be able to do the HM even if I have to tape it again. Turned out she’s a runner (veteran of 9 London Marathons - with automatic place due to her time. 3:35 at age 50 😳) so we chatted away while she poked and prodded me and applied some ultrasound. £38 well spent. I’ve spent all week praying it wasn’t PF so am so mightily relieved that it’s fairly minor 😃

I'm so glad it was such a positive visit! Sounds like you should hang on to her number - £38 is very reasonable too 👍

Oh no Sandie. This is your first time on the IC isn’t it? I wish you a speedy recovery. I am sure Ben will enjoy your new walking regime!

I know 😩 I was very proud of my injury free status! It is feeling quite a bit better already, but no parkrun for me this week.

Enjoy a rare lie-in on Saturday 🤣🤣. It sounds like ours is going to be wet and windy. 💦💦

Ouch - fingers crossed that it settles soon for you.🤞Sounds hopeful - and what experienced hands you are in with your physio!🙂

Good result Sandie. I know that I am a bit hair trigger when it comes to going to the physio, but it beats living with the anxiety and risking making things worse any day. I think that my daily beach walks help too. There is something about walking on sand. Just make sure that you are fit and good to go at the end of May 👍

Exactly my thoughts. Normally, I would have waited to see how things progressed and only sought professional help if it didn’t improve, but I couldn’t risk it. I expect to be fighting fit by May - got Cape Wrath 10k with Grannytobe to do first 😃

That’s good news Sandie, although I can’t profess to know how bad a strained peroneal tendon is! Hopefully it’ll repair itself with rest and you’ll be up and running again soon. Ben will love it! 🐾 🐕

Enjoy your PR free Saturday. You won’t know yourself! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

Thanks Cheeky! I had never even heard of a peroneal tendon 😂 It seems it may be linked to tight calves, so lots of calf stretches.

I’m glad you hadn’t either Sandie! I was starting to feel a bit ...... clueless! 🤣

Absolutely! She just got that I would be devastated if I couldn’t do my HM. Mind you, I’m not risking my last 2 long runs (should have done 19k this week) so the furthest I’ve run is 18k in preparation. I’ll just have to keep fingers crossed on the day.

If you’ve run 18k you’ll definitely be able to run a HM Sandie! 👍

Many training plans take you to 16K but apparently 18K is what the “pros” do. You’ll be absolutely fine 🏃‍♀️🙂

Haha! First time I’ve ever been able to compare myself to a pro!

Good you took prompt action Sandie! I’m just back on the forum so have caught up with your progress, you’re doing amazing! Your “week off” will only make you stronger. Could you maybe do some of the core exercises from the gym programme you did? x
