Now I’m in trouble

Morning guys. I’ve left myself a bit of a mountain to overcome. I’ve done very little distance training ( virtually none ) for the London marathon expecting it to be cancelled, and it was. But with the constant is it isn’t it I’ve found motivation really hard. So here’s the problem , They’ve dangled a medal and T shirt for a virtual London Marathon run locally and I have until October 4th 8 weeks to train for it. I could probably squeeze a 2:30 half out with a real push at the moment and the furthest I’ve done is 30k race in 4 hours but that was a year ago. Do you guys think it’s achievable of foolhardy to push it just for a T shirt and Medal ?

Ps I really want the t shirt and medal

Cheers 👍😊

If you really want that stuff then I'd suggest you approach the marathon with a plan to walk substantial portions of it, and to make sure you pick a route which passes shops and public loos, so you can replenish supplies and refresh yourself as necessary. They are giving people 24 hours to run the race, so you can take your time.

In the meantime you can build up your long walk-run over the next 5-6 weeks, then taper for the remaining 2-3. No pushing though, take it easy, and prepare your mind for a long day on October 4th xx

Hi roseabi I was thinking of doing 8k loops in my village passing my house twice on each loop for refreshments the only downside with that is boredom and Its a little hilly. I would love to do it on the seafront prom nice and flat but that then raises the refreshment and loo problems you pointed out 😊

The hills will help keep it a bit more interesting! Also I agree with linda9389 's comments below xx

Your advice on here is spot on. Your knowledge is fantastic to learn from.

You can definitely do it! On your terms, in your own time. Can you gather a support posse to bring refreshments to you? Can you do a longer route with less laps that still gives you the chance to call in at home for a loo stop? Maybe get dropped somewhere and run home, then run back out and get picked up again at the end?

Yes! And get a t-shirt made with your name and London Marathon 2020 on it ☺️☺️☺️

Thanks guys for the suggestions I will definitely do it but slow and steady with larger loops and fewer laps. Plenty to keep me interested in training though perhaps this is the kick in the pants I’ve needed for quite a while now . Thanks 😊👍
