I just received an email confirming the race is going ahead on the Saturday with reduced numbers, and there will be a second one on the Sunday as well. Makes a change from the usual cancellation emails.
Thought I'd mention it in case anyone is craving a start line π
That is excellent news, I wonder if there will be social distancing and the runners will have to wear facemasks, of course you won't know until you get there, good luck for your Kew Gardens 10K. run. ππΎ
Of course that's possible, but I'm haginging on to a thread of optimism here. I love Kew. I love running. I'd love to run at Kew π. For now it's a chink of light ...
In Croatia on holiday, witnessed a crazy scene yesterday. The heat here is relentless, humidity high, crazy. So, 36c in the deepest shade and local version of park run took place (it's divided into teams). Those guys simply went for it. I mean, they charged. Seeing a guy who after the run lit up a cigarette, a guy of 55 who finished just after 25 minutes......was, well.....quite educational. This is different type of hot, the type of weather that simply stays like that for weeks on end and people simply go about their normal business. I'm humbled and picking up tips. I'll probably run like a gazelle once back in London. I heard of their long trail run comprising altitudes and various terrains (including a local mountain). I must say that got me interested. π
Hope it can go ahead linda9389 . The little 5k race in Bath next weekend that I was entered in with Redcello41 was cancelled due to not enough interest. They had fantastic social distancing arrangements planned too. Boo.
Oh no! How disappointing. It sounded pretty safely organised too. The virtual duathlon I did yesterday had just 15 entries. Of those, 7 did not start! I thought it had to be run yesterday, but maybe not, otherwise that's a very low turnout.
Wow, that is great news π. All the races I was planning on doing are cancelled but Iβm hopeful about a local one in October which will be done in waves if all goes to plan π€
linda9389 - FYI if you are also looking for an actual HM to do this autumn as well then F3 events ( f3events.co.uk/ ) have several planned around Henley and Windsor, and looks like they have a Covid-19 plan, and are intending these to go ahead (though of course as things keep changing never know anything for sure!)
I'm currently booked for the Windsor river trail run on the 4 October, though I may switch to the Windsor Autumn Half Marathon (around Eton Dorney lake) the following weekend instead.
Oooh, thanks for the heads up. I've looked at F3 recently! A lot of theirs are laps round Dorney (which has been closed to the public since lockdown, although it may have reopened now) which I don't really fancy. I didn't spot they were doing the Windsor River Trail in October though. Missed that! Hmmmm. That's the one I did last May that ended with my stress fracture π€ͺ. It was a great route, I really enjoyed it. I would choose that over laps round Dorney any day of the week (but I do like variety, the Thames and the Jubilee river!). I am definitely tempted ... though with so many HMs to choose from (in normal circumstances at least) I never imagined I'd do that twice! The other one I've been looking at for this autumn is the Grand Union Canal one at the beginning of November - that's The Race Organiser.
Its a bit hidden - you need to click on Trail Running, rather than Running. Here is direct link: f3events.co.uk/events/winds...
Must admit this one does seem more interesting route than just going around Dorney lake multiple times. However I did a Windsor river trail 10k last October and remember it being very muddy (and the HM was supposed to be even worse). Plus if things get more restricted again think there may be more chance of the Dorney one still going ahead (since it on private land). Still I will decide a bit nearer the time.
PS I know someone who has done 100+ marathons. He told me one of these was in multi-story car park... at least Dorney Lake would be more interesting than that π€£
OMG - a multi storey car park? 100 marathons? I don't know what to say π.
I think the Windsor river trail 10 overlaps the HM (assuming it was the F3 one on the same day). In May the terrain was fine - I guess it will depend on the weather but from what I remember it's mostly compacted gravel so has to be pretty bad to be muddy across the entire path. The Dorney route is pretty much all tarmac - although part of the route goes on to land that is normally closed to the public (as I discovered when trying to do my virtual Bath HM!!!) so not sure about the terrain for that bit. I suspect F3 won't offer refunds for new entries now, so I will wait til nearer the time to part with any cash. If you get any info on the trail HM - going ahead/not going ahead - do let me know if you don't mind. Fingers crossed for a good HM one way or the other π€π
