A lovely run this morning - enjoying another slightly cooler day before the temperature rises again! π I seem to be comfortably running 10k againπ€so today I compensated for my rather leisurely pace π by adding on an extra k to my run. It also means I am that much nearer(61k) to hitting my GreatRun Solo target of 70k for the month.
So my next decision is about whether to train for another HM - and if so when? I have been reading the posts for the forums next HM group and would love to run a second one. Up until now it just hasn't happened for one reason or another. I don't want to up my mileage too much during the summer because I really run better in the cold, wet and windy weather of autumn and winter but I'm sure there's another one in me... somewhere!
For now, I am just chuffed to be running regularly and feeling that my niggly knee is at last improving. It hasn't kept me out of running but it hasn't always been comfortable, especially after a run - and that has in turn meant extra recovery time and not being able to push my pace or distance. Perhaps I will see how things are over the next couple of months with a view to more endurance towards the end of the summer! Happy running everyone!π

Great stuff Sandraj; you give me hope! You have been really disciplined and deserve your success. I think I am at risk of pushing up KTβs share price single handed; now gone for the three strip whole knee approach. Invested in Hokaβs too (although I have brought home the stability ones by mistake; I need moderate). Our brilliant running shop will sort that out for me. Hope the improvement continues apace; we need knee success stories; no pressure ! π
Hey, leave some tape for me please! I don't want a national shortage. Even when my muscles are behaving I need it fir me blisters π€£ more seriously, did the running shop suggest Hokas for you BC? Did you see the article roseabi linked to earlier this week about Hokas potentially putting more stress on the knees? I think it may have been in the weekly chat in response to Decker.
Hi Linda. Yes I did the discussion. The articles were interesting, and as you know Roseabi pointed out that they were based on limited research or at least had a narrow scope. I will create a separate post so as not to hijack Sandraβs string. I have, I hope, thought this through, but I accept that trying desperately to solve an injury issue carries a risk of grasping straws!!π
As a Hoka convert - I'm off to look for that article, Linda! I think ultimately we are all different and what works for one may not work for another. I still believe in my 'magic' shoes! ππ
Totally agree! I happily latched on to the 'good for feet' bit. I take what I want to hear and disregard the rest π€£. One of my knees errs on the edge of being OK/not OK, and the Hokas have caused it no problem as far as I can tell π€
Have called mine worse than that over the last couple of months! I think that I have been treating two problems as one. There is the runners' knee issue, which was shown up by my speed run efforts, and then the meniscus pain which came from a fall when the same leg buckled under me as I slipped going down hill; all happened in the same week. Runners knee needs heat; meniscus needs ice when it flares up, and stability (tape). I have rested it for four days now, apart from daily exercises, so I will see how it feels tomorrow. I will run in my"old" shoes. On bad days it feels as though I am running without shock absorbers. That is where I think the Hokas may help. I have already shortened stride/ increased SPM with help from hill runs, so hopefully any heel strike should have been reduced already. Got to try something !! π
Ooh, that's an interesting message in the photo, gives me the shivers (I've never been brave π€£)!
Another HM would be a nice challenge and rewarding achievement. I know what you mean about endurance training in the heat, but at least training for autumn/winter, things are cooling down by the time you get to the longer runs π.
Great news about your knee and consistent running though, it's good to have something to rely on at the moment π
Sounds gorgeous! But how spooky Sandra, I had a similar thought on my run this morning. That when a certain distance or pace is βeasyβ then itβs time to push a little so Iβm with you on this sentiment.
As you know Iβm not fussed about warm weather running either but with no pressure from βofficialβ race training I feel much more relaxed about my running atm and if I get a twinge then Iβll just take extra time off π
It would be great to have you join us on the HM group.....π€πββοΈ
You are right about the lack of pressure from race dates IP! When I'm ready, I can start to increase distance at my own pace and as you say, can also take extra time off. Watch this space...π
Your next target could be 10 miles Sandra. Just pretend you are going to take part in the Great South Run, which sadly Probably wonβt be happening this year.
Definitely on for the 10 miles Dexy and no need to pretend! I have already entered the Great Sourh Run although I suspect it won't be happening too!π
