Training still goes on.

Last night a colleague told me that the Hull Marathon was cancelled. Back in November he asked a group of us at Barnardo's to run in a 4 person team. We needed numbers so I volunteered. I'd never run before although was quite fit. Right there in that afternoon in November I looked at ways to train and found C25k. I didn't put it off until after Christmas and within a day or two I began. I was to do the 5 mile leg as it was one of the shorter ones. It seemed so daunting. Since that time I have passed through C25k and B210k and now can run HM distance. Although it was disappointing to confirm my thoughts it would be cancelled, I'm very thankful to have started this journey and will keep on training. This really is all about the journey rather than the destination.

You’ve achieved a lot in a short space of time and of course, finding the C25K programme was the best thing you could have found!

Such a shame the HM is cancelled but not unexpected. I have one due in September but doubt it’ll go ahead ☹️

All we can do is keep on running so we’re ready for take off when the time’s right 🏃🏃‍♀️🙂

Sorry to hear the race is cancelled GTFC, but sadly it’s not a surprise.

You’ve done brilliantly to get to HM distance, so hopefully you’ll be able to stay fit and ready to go when things start to return to ‘normal’, whatever that’s going to look like!

It's a shame a the running events are cancelled but in the upside at least we can still go out and run. Definitely an amazing journey to be on 😊👍

Your progress through the distances is fantastic and it helps to have a hard goal to work towards. With this shift, I wonder if you and your colleagues could still run the relay on your own? Last night someone (keener and younger that myself) in our run group set a goal of running the perimeter of North York. (The group name is “we run North York” so...) Someone else setup a map and Google signup spreadsheet and we are good to go. At first I dismissed it, and even though it is not a major event and just a short 5k leg, I am kind of looking forward to it now. Whatever you focus on in the next few months, I hope it keeps you motivated for that actual HM race when the time comes.

Thank you! Your group sounds ace! And it'll be a sense of achievement working as a team.

Yes, I'll keep going 3x a week and making sure I keep getting miles in the legs. I enjoy it now and do it for me. It's become a part of who I am now 😊

That's a shame for sure, but if it was the catalyst to start you running then it has achieved a lot already. There will be more events ... keep practising 🙂

Aw that’s rubbish news but to be expected. We’re all crossing fingers that our races will happen. If they don’t our training for them still pays off. I start marathon training once I’m allowed back out Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeha 🏃‍♀️

Keep running, cross training and eating healthy. Sleep good 😃👍💪🙂 You’ll be racing again before long 🙂
