Conclusion of the Hoka saga

I reported the company to CAB as the Trading Standards website advised, but they said they couldn’t do anything because the company was based overseas 😳 They said contact the credit card company! I also contacted Hoka themselves and all they said was they were aware of companies cloning their website and confirmed it wasn’t real. I ordered through hokaoneonehshop.com but there is also now a hokaoneoneeu.com. The genuine site is hokaoneone.eu. Anyway, the real site had Arahi3’s for £79.99 (full price £115) although I couldn’t get the nice blue and purple ones I wanted. They arrived today ready to be tried out on my 2 year Runniversary of starting C25k on Thursday. Happy days 😃😃

Yay! Glad you managed to draw a line under that one even if it wasn’t entirely satisfying a conclusion. If I miss it, happy runniversary for Thursday!! Xx

I’m only £15 down and have still got the scarf. My old shoes are fraying round the heels so I am so pleased I managed to get the exact same model even though they’ve been replaced by Arahi4s. I wouldn’t have been comfortable buying something different online and, of course, running shops are non essential. How dare they?

TailChaser profile image

How can they be non essential when so many people are now running (I’m only semi serious on this...)!

Good outcome Sandie. Well done for pursuing it that far.....and you have bargain price Hokas at the end of it all. Result! 😊

Not exactly the response I expected from CAB in a global economy, but it wasn’t a lot of money and I’m just drawing a line under it!

Thanks for letting us know the outcome Sandie- a warning to us all when internet shopping.

Indeed! I actually phoned Hoka to ask their website address and then phoned again to ask if they had received my order. I do find it alarming that the fake ones are still being advertised on Facebook though and am looking very closely at everything, including Amazon retailers!

Yes I always check out the company website to see what contact details there are , such as head office address and phone numbers.

Thanks BBR. The weather looks like staying dry and sunny too so I might keep them clean 😂

Looking back, you might have received a pair of fake Hokas which could have been useless if not damaging. Thanks for the warning.

That’s true! Perhaps not getting fake shoes might be a better outcome 😃

Oh good, what a relief that’s over now Sandie. You have some nice shoes (and a scarf) and being £15 down is no biggie in the broad scheme of things. 😀

Sandie1961 profile image

My thought entirely! I’ll be more careful in future though.

It’s an easy mistake to make. Mr Cheeky ordered some strimmer heads on Amazon Prime nearly 3 weeks ago. Not here yet so he asked me to check the order - yes they were dispatched on April 5th - but from China. 🙄🙄

Sandie1961 profile image

It’s surprising how much stuff does come from China. I was going to order some dog clippers from Amazon, which had a UnionFlag in the advert until I saw they were coming from China. Also we ordered a new charcoal barbecue from Sportsdirect, which has now been sitting in Hermes depot since 12 April,😩 Sportsdirect say it’s been dispatched, nothing todo with them and Hermes say don’t contact us, contact your retailer! I can’t wait to be able to go into shops again.

I had one of those situations - although I was returning something rather than waiting to receive something. Also Hermes and Sports Direct. I repeatedly called SD and eventually they paid up. In your case, the responsibility is absolutely with SD - your contract is with them. Persist!

Barbecue arrived today 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Just in time for the weekend (not that I know what weekend is any more 😂)

I ordered a 2ltr Stainless steel jug from the boys in Bejing. Then all the Virus Cufuffle kicked off. So was pretty sure I would not see my jug but low and behold it turned up yesterday in perfect nick. Not all those lads are bad lads it seems. Positive vibes for your strimmer heads ;-)

I’m sure that’s the case. It would just be nice to know where things are coming from, especially if the advert seems to suggest it’s the UK.

I saw that fake website advertised on FB the other day. The prices were far too good to be true so I looked a bit further into the web address which proved it to be dodgy. Always pays to do a couple of minutes work in verifying anything you’re thinking of buying on the net.

I’ve had a similar problem with a different product. The credit card company can charge back the payment. That means the fraudsters won’t get away with it. Doesn’t matter what country they’re in.

Coddfish profile image

Glad that has been resolved and hope your credit card isn’t misused by the fake site. I say this because I got contacted by my bank’s fraud department this morning, because they had picked up a suspicious transaction. On talking to them, there were actually 2 fraudulent transactions this morning. The card remains in my possession but details have been entered on sites I don’t normally use whilst i have been procuring things in lockdown. But everything I have ordered has turned up and has seemed genuine.

Sandie1961Half Marathon in reply to Coddfish

Unfortunately there seem to be a lot of people trying to cash in on Coronavirus. I actually paid through PayPal. Mind you, this fades into insignificance compared with the fact our house in France has been burgled during the lockdown there 😭

in reply to Sandie1961

Oh No, that is terrible. Crooks make the most of these situations! I hope it's not too bad x

Sandie1961 profile image
Sandie1961Half Marathon in reply to

Thanks! Don’t seem to have caused any damage but pretty much all our small appliances (tv,dvd,cd player, PlayStation etc) as well as all OH’s tools and, naturally, the entire contents of our wine rack have gone😢 All we can do is get across there as soon as travel is allowed again, which I sincerely hope is no more than a month away!

in reply to Sandie1961

It is a relief that there is no damage, but it is still a horrible crime. A month? Optimist!

Sandie1961 profile image
Sandie1961Half Marathon in reply to

I’m kind of hoping it could be considered essential travel as the french are planning to start easing from 11 May. We would just stay there then until August/September as planned

in reply to Sandie1961

Oh bad news on your breakin, garmdarmes show any interest?

Sandie1961 profile image
Sandie1961Half Marathon in reply to

It was them who contacted me to say that we had been broken into. Apparently they asked if anybody had contact details (there are only 4 other inhabited houses in our hamlet) and got my email address from somewhere, the Mairie perhaps. Sent photos, secured the entry point (kitchen window), asked questions, asked us to let them know what we thought was missing and asked us to go into the station when we do finally get there. I doubt whether they will pursue the thieves, although where they would offload stuff during almost total lockdown and why the thieves weren’t stopped travelling with a car load of gear will never be known I guess!

Well done Sandi (sorry if my previous reply was a little 'heavy') x
