I just noticed that Strava gave me elevation gain over 1,000 feet! I’d be amazed if it was 50 as I was just looping a field. How does that happen? The time, route and distance are accurate.

Elevation gain??? Strava random.
Strava thinks you climed a mountain on your run, just a error that can happen.
I had an error with gps on the Nike app yesterday. It skipped 1 km I thought it was awarding me dead fast splits 🌪🏃♀️
How strange! Was there a bridge nearby? Have you had a look at the strava elevation profile - does it spike somewhere maybe? Do you get the same data if you manually plot the route in strava, or in something else?
Thank you for the tip. Didn’t even think to look at elevation profile! It’s random! Shows me dropping off a cliff to -650 feet just at 0.5 miles in! How odd. No bridges nearby..... oh well. It doesn’t matter, I was just (and still am) a bit baffled how it recorded that! Nike recorded 37m elevation gain which is probably about right as the field has a “slope”.
Very odd! Were they both getting gps from the same device, or was one from a watch and one from a phone?
Both on my phone! Strava often does odd things, Nike is more reliable and I have 4G everywhere so signal not an issue. Oh well, not stressed about it - not doing any related challenges that have been messed up at least!
