Hiding one's pace on Strava

I have noticed on Strava that some people have posts that just say time distance and calories how do you get this as this is all I want to show. Is it a premium feature? I am on the free version. I don't want others to see my pace neither do I as it affects my motivation sometimes. It's one of the reasons why I went private although I know you can set it so only followers can see but even then I rather my pace was not shown.

Bike rides don't show pace, but I can't find any examples of runs like this - can you link to one? If I can see an example I can figure it out.

I can't see anything in Strava support about options to hide pace.

But in any case if people can see the distance and time taken they will be able to tell what your pace was, so you're probably better off keeping your runs private.

Sorry to see that you feel this way xxx

Hi not sure how to show unless I post again separately as the reply option does not allow me to attach a photo so I will leave it be. I was just curious that's all.

I see them from time to time. No idea if it’s deliberate though

Thanks glad it's not just me. I was curious how they occurred

Send me a link to one of these runs and I will have a look.

To do it you need to be logged into Strava in a web browser, open the person's run (needs to be a public one) by clicking on its title, copy the url from the address bar, and paste into a comment on here.

This is the url of my last run for example:

*strava.com/activities/26588...

Thank you for your offer but it doesn't matter. I was just curious

I’ve just hidden all of my runs on Strava Pippa - I’m getting to hung up on people judging my pace and stressing myself out looking at other people’s paces. I literally sync my run to Strava, change its name and do not look at anyone else’s runs anymore. I feel much better since doing so. What I run is nothing to do with anyone else 👍🏽

I think I will do the same. Those on this forum and a fb group I am on know when I achieve the long run as my friend who is one of the group's admin posts it on the group page. I think like you I was getting a bit down seeing other people's runs and thinking about how slow I was even though we shouldn't compare ourselves to anyone else but I also felt the same looking at my own knowing that I have been better.

I’ve been better too. It’s hot. We’re doing a lot. Scrap other people’s Strava! Just use it to log your own runs for you and no one else. Annoyingly I’m in a group convo with other runners and they keep screenshotting Strava! I’ve told them to stop as I don’t want to know!

Pippa49 profile image

When I mean I have been better I meant that seeing a slow average pace then looking at older runs where I was faster. I don't screenshot my Strava runs. I am changing my Strava setting now

Good for you 👌🏽

I enjoyed knowing that people would be wondering where my runs were and that they’d think I’d quit 🤣 It was only a couple of weeks before a I got an enquiry as to what I was up to 🙄 I liked telling them I had not quit as I am sure people had expected me too 💪🏽

Just looked at my Runs on Strava and they are private unless I choose to make it available to my followers so that's OK.

I think if you want to make it public, you need to change settings before you sync. I’m not sure you can change it after a sync. Not 100% with that though.

Strava had a lock symbol which when you edited a run you could click on to make it visible or not. Not sure if it is still there. But my runs are private. Just looked and you click on the privacy bit at the bottom of the edit page and you can change the setting.

Tash, I can’t understand that. You’re a consistent, fast runner. Do people actually judge your pace? That’s awful. I’ve never seen that on Strava, except people encouraging each other. I know some people are super fast, but they are usually extremely competitive men, and men have larger hearts and lungs so are genetically equipped to run faster than women.

No, no one judges me. But I do ☹️

So do I although I have had someone following me say on a fb group we are both on that I don't do long enough mid week runs then do a 10 mile run a week before a half marathon which is not true. The only reason I can think of why she has said this is she may be going on the runs she has seen. That said it is my business what I do before a Half. I have completed all but one and that was a lapped one in December which I hated but was still upset to DNF despite it being my choice.

in reply toTasha99

We all do that a bit 😊

I was the same and then my daughter told me I was daft as I’m 66 and I’m looking at people’s pace who are 20 years younger. So I am just glad I’m running again 😁

in reply tolimberlou

I always say that to myself too. I’m three times their age, have a minor disability. We’re doing ok!

We are indeed. I only managed 23 minutes run this morning as I was trying to do the C25k+ Stamina run and it was a bit too fast for me. I had to walk for a minute after the 10 mins warmup which was faster than I usually do it, and then it speeded up for 20 minutes and I ended up missing out the last 5 mins fast run ☹️. But I did enjoy what I ran so that was good.

I should think so after the half marathon distance you just did! I intend a few days rest after mine 😊

I can think of two reasons the pace might not show. One would be if the data were input manually and not recorded live, which probably defeats the purpose. The other would be that Strava sometimes doesn’t display the pace in the feed because it displays something else instead - but the pace would still be viewable if you opened the run, it just isn’t obvious as you scroll through your feed, and anyway it’s not something the user can control. The only way to hide the pace is to hide the run.

It’s really sad that you feel people are judging you. Normally it’s not something runners do, but you’ve given a specific example where someone did. You could set your runs to followers only and just not let the judgmental folk follow you. But if you think you also put pressure on yourself because you see what others can do, then going completely private and simply not using the social features of Strava is the way to go.

sorry, im not sure how to do this.. but I don't make all my exercises open for friends or public and keep a lot private for me

ju-ju- profile image

I am not sure, you can be private on Strava if you prefer? I have alot of super speedy types that follow me on Strava, and my runs are very slow in comparison, yet it doesnt stop them from encouraging me and giving me support. However, pace is not a big objective for me so I really dont mind. I feel worried about why you would want to hide it?

Pippa49 profile image

Sorry just seen your reply. Not been on the forum for a while. Hiding my pace on Strava is more for my mh rather than others seeing how slow I am. 99%of the time I am not bothered and it's usually when I haven't run for a while : frustration that I am not as quick as I was before.
