Runniversary - is that really a thing?

I found myself telling my daughter I wanted to do a longer run today to celebrate my runniversary. 'Is that really a thing?' she said (with a subtle note of utter scorn). Is what a thing I said ... not even realising I'd said anything unusual πŸ˜‚

I have to admit I was very naive when I started C25K. What a lot I've learned, what a lot I've a achieved and what a lot of lovely people I've found to share my last three years with πŸ’—

Now utterly addicted to running, to events, to bling and over the last year have added cycling to my list of addictions. But it's all healthy right? ('It's not healthy for the rest of the family when you can't run cos you're injured, or stressed cos you don't have time to fit a run in' ... said the same daughter at the weekend 🀣).

I'm looking forward to the next three years; today's run was lovely and I bet there will be lots more of those to come ...

Don't bother too much of what your daughter says, in fact get her to do C25K, congratulations on completing your 3rd runiversary run, tomorrow is my second runiversary, it was on the 18th April 2018 that I ran, run 1 of week 1 of C25K and to celebrate that run I will be running a virtual 5K parkrun near to where I live.

Aah, happy runniversary to you for tomorrow (it's definitely a thing). This same daughter actually did C25K with me. Without her I wouldn't be where I am, but it never ceases to amaze me how different we are now - she hates running and totally doesn't understand what I get out of it 😍

Have a great run tomorrow.

That’s so weird.MY daughter was the one who got me running , did C25k with me and then tailed off a few months later and hasn’t run for nearly 2 years now

She is very supportive of me and proud too so that’s good 😜

Much the same. I tell myself my family are secretly very proud of me too πŸ˜‚. My daughter is kind of supportive, but she literally just can't understand my love of running and so she's constantly bemused by what I say and do πŸ˜‚

Definitely a thing! That means it must be around about my 3 year Runniversary too, but I have to confess I slightly forgot!

Since lockdown started and my half was postponed till November, I have to admit that motivation has been somewhat lacking recently. But I have still tried to get out 3 times a week recently, trying to pick the quieter times as runners seem to have become public enemy number one on local social media!

Hopefully we will all soon be back out there properly and we can both work towards our 4 year anniversaries😊

Keep well and safe!

It definitely must be yours too! I missed it last year, but it's in my diary now πŸ˜€. Just ticking over is all we can do right now isn't it. Structured training can wait. I enjoyed today's run because I saw so few people; I feel so judged at the moment, I know exactly what you mean. Year 4, here we come - it will get better. Take care 😊

Congratulations - a 3-year Runniversary is a Big Thing on here! πŸŽ‰πŸŽΆπŸŽ΅πŸŽΆπŸŽ‰πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌπŸ‘πŸΌ What a star you are.

Of course that’s part of why this forum is so important to so many of us - because here folks do get it when runny things happen. And it’s lovely when those things are celebratory. So glad to hear you had a lovely run, and hope you had a delicious glass of something bubbly too - even soda water will do it! πŸ˜„ Happy Runniversary and many more to come.

And btw, said daughter may yet get the bug herself and come to eat her words. The teenage daughters who once scorned our fell walking habit both turned out to be rock climbers and, eventually runners. You scorn at your peril.... 🀣🀣

I would be delighted if my daughter decides to run again one day. She does lots of other fitness stuff (installed a pole in her bedroom for lockdown and can do some amazing stuff on that) but I think running would be so good for her mental health and energy.

Lovely HU peoples make it possible for me to chat running and, by not understanding, my family provide a constant reminder of how passionate I am about running and how much I have gained from it 😍

Oh, runniversaries are DEFINITELY a thing! A brilliant thing to be proud of and celebrate. Especially as none of us really knew, when we first embarked on C25K, how much we would fall in love with running, and would chalk up years of this weird and wonderful pursuit!

So congratulations Linda! You have come so far! And, been a wonderful friend and support to so many along the way. β™₯️

Here’s wishing you a lifetime of happy running! πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ 🍾 πŸ₯³

Happy Runniversary! Non-runners just don't get it. It took my husband a bit, but now understands and encourages me to get out for those runs. He doesn't have any desire to join me for the long runs ("why would I want to spend all morning in the hills running?") but I have managed to get him out for shorter runs. We are definitely a breed of our own. It is a great thing we have these forums with like-minded people. It gives our families a little break πŸ˜†

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to SaskAlliecat

Ooh, I never thought about it like that, next time one of them asks if I'm on the forum again (while rolling their eyes), I'll remind them I'm giving them a little break 🀣🀣🀣. OH absolutely won't run, both my daughter and one son have tried but actually dislike it too much to bother and the other son isn't of an age to want to socialise with his mum - the occasional treadmill workout is all he wants 😍. But that's OK, I'm not sure I really want to share my runs anyway πŸ€”

Happy runniversary! Mine too (I’ve posted in C25k). This has been such a great thing. Enjoy the next three years and by then your daughter will be out of the sarcastic phaseπŸ˜‚

My youngest is a runner too, and we swap info, like calf exercises when he had an injury. The other two; not really interested. Mrs BC is very supportive, but I don’t mention runniversaries outside of the forum..I see it as a forum thing...but it is definitely a thing!! Managed a 5k plus hill walk with Molly yesterday. I dispensed with the knee support and things seem ok today....a few creaks here and there, but that is normal for me. Have started my daily exercises again, but will leave tip toe squats for a couple more days I think. I took off the KT tape yesterday.....ouch! 😭

I don’t eat them as they’re usually bleugh. my husband always buys two as if to share. Ha! As if 😁

I keep saying I’m going to get a Yorkshire Curd and make a proper curd tart. The curd comes from Longley Farm in Holmfirth but they deliver to our local shop. I assume it’s similar to a custard. Although it has dried fruit in it πŸ˜‹

Happy Runniversary (belated, sorry). A few years ago my daughter did a β€˜Colour’ charity run with friends (one of those fun runs where paint is thrown over the runners!!).
