So, as some of you know I have been training since January to do a full pull up. Thankfully Rignold gave me a plan, although I have not been his favourite pupil as I stray off plan.
Anyway, I am not yet able to do the full pull up ( getting super close tho) but I have now got my own garden gym. My routine is to do my run, and then come back and do 30 minutes of upper body. I so love it. It’s lovely and peaceful in the garden and I love the feeling of going off to work with tingly legs and arms....
I have noticed that I have started to get some teeny tiny muscles and I’m so excited.... I will post again when I can do the full pull up ( hopefully not long now!!)....

Well there's some inspiration for me! I've never been inside a gym in my life, but I do think I should make an effort to get a bit stronger... A compromise with a garden gym sounds brilliant.
Thankyou.....I didn’t join until I had an injury 2 years ago and it was my only option. If I were you I would do a garden gym, it’s so much better. The only thing I’d miss would be spinning and bodypump!
That looks like a fair bit of weight you are handling there.
Yes your biceps, triceps and lateral dorsi are all pronounced.
Excuse me for commenting, but your left arm and right foot is a little out of symmetry.
Reduce the weight and keep your symmetry with maybe a few more reps.?
Interesting on Trust me I am a Dr.
Demonstrated that heavy or light weights with more reps for lighter weights gave the same benefit.
Most people just favoured heavy.
But important to keep your balance and symmetry.Perhaps it is just the shot.?or my eyesight.
Very impressed.
I use 16 resistance machines in the gym and a balance now of moderate weight and moderate reps. For me the m/cs of course only work individual muscles and protects me from out of balance forces.
Your regime is much more effective, working many muscles simultaneously, and I think you are doing it on your own, so more pressure on you to keep good symmetry.
I don’t think I have seen that one yet, I must watch!! Yes you are quite right, I was doing lateral raises and the knees had to be slightly bent. However I have been told my legs should also be wider, so I will be adapting this for next time ( later today in fact!!). Thankyou so much Tbae and well done you, it sounds like you are a pro. I am very much a novice in this 💪🏻
I am sure Rig and others are hugely experienced as are you.
Hungry and enthusiastic yes. Some would say boring.lol.
Since I was medically referred around 4-5 years ago to the gym etc.,I cannot believe the abilities of this piece of kit we are all gifted with and the supporting research and knowledge that exists to help us improve it and indeed get the biggest return from optimal effort.
Its ability to repair itself and how we can help to accelerate that repair, just blows my mind.
You are a star as per both your mantras and breaking new ground and leading the Panther cubs.Yes you are right there at the cutting edge.
I have not done pull ups for ages ,must go and do a few to remind myself.
The connection between exertion, pushing weights and breathing whether we inhale or exhale on the push or return, matters.
Cannot remember the medical info., but on some occasions it is contrary to the perceived logic.? Need to remind myself.
You are in this field,so interesting for you.
Always laughed JuJu,in my field when someone mentioned expert and our definition of that.
But in this field of wellness, fitness and running, well for me this is hallowed ground.
Love your gym, take good care of you.Your Brillant.
At our Woodland Workout for medical referrals, there is a self employed personal trainer and he is part of the North Wales Medical Referral Scheme, Unbelievable knowledge,so kind, caring and generous.
What he does not know, well as they say.
I have told him he is constipated with knowledge.lol.
This father and ex martial arts and kick boxer is in his early ? fifties and is now formalising his qualifications by part time study, over the next 8 years, BSc., MSc.,
I call him Mr COOL.
WOW. What a fellow.
It is lovely when you come into contact with people like him and this forum,
So uplifting.
Gone off on one again.
Keep lighting your fires and working your magic and 10 the magic number.
Yes it is a sort of comfortable squat start position, relaxed, back straight but with your core engaged.? In fact it is your go to position for most stand up stuff.?
That looks great ju-ju- Not sure about pull ups myself as I’ve not tried one for ages, but have done body pump 3 times this week. I do like weights on my days off running 😀
I love bodypump too although I’m doing more outside gym through the summer but I’ll be back on it soon. I like the structure of someone telling you what to do....
What a lovely idea, setting up in the garden...I need to work on my upper body too, I’ve been using the housework as part of my routine...lunges whilst vaccing are a good one & my ceilings are 12 foot high so I do plenty of stretching, I can’t imagine doing a full pull up, ever! The heaviest thing I pull is the vac up the stairs!! Phew...My arms are aching just looking at your photo!! 😬
Yay I think you should do it. In fact I would so love a guest vid for 10 is the magic number? Do you fancy doing something on fitness whilst you do the housework????
Woo hoo this is so cool.... I would really love to use your vid for this weeks ( Friday?) or is that too soon? And also do your own thing as Tbae has said, you need to own this, and I think you will be brilliant 😻
I know what you mean about exercising in the garden, we have a home gym, that just happens to be in the garden right now under a gazebo, we’re having our garage rebuilt........there is something really lovely about being outside, doing weights, I love it.......and yes, I’m another one trying to keep my old lady arms in shape.......I love hula hooping in the garden too.....
That sounds perfect, and I’d like a gazebo for Winter so I can still go out in the rain etc etc. Although I might draw the line in frozen weather as I don’t want to get my hands stuck on the pole.... 😱
Jaust one pull-up is a hell of an acheivement in itself. I have been doing lots of push ups recently and thought I had built a good upper-body strength. This weekend, where they have one of those 'adult gyms' in the local park, I decided to demonstrate the pull-up bars to my kids, thiking I would do 3-4. I struggled and just about got my chin up towards the bar once and that was it. Not sure they were any the wiser.
Well done.... I cant do one yet, but I can with the rubber band!!! The reason I started was that i wanted to do the monkey bars at the playground and show the young-uns that you can still be fit and have fun in your late 40's!!!
