So I went out for a short 2 mile recovery run to shake out my legs from yesterday and I noticed that my left knee felt off right from the get go. I thought it would settle down like most my niggles usually do so I carried on running. I had to stop a few times, walk and stretch it out which seemed to help but the pain returned as soon as I resumed running again! I got to 1.4km (after a lot of stopping and starting) and the pain in my knee suddenly got worse to a point I was almost limping, so I stopped immediately and decided that I would walk home because I didn't want to risk anything further.
I have to walk down a steep hill to get to my house and that was the most painful part! So painful that I was limping and grimacing, I even had to walk sideways down the hill so it didn't hurt so much! So I think I must have done something to my knee during my long run yesterday because I did run down a very very steep hill and it has caused my knees problems before (Then again, I was in my new running shoes today so they could have also contributed to it...)! Anyway, I definitely feel like I made the right decision not continuing my run today, given the fact that walking down a hill was so painful!
I'm not too concerned about it given that I am not training for any upcoming races anyway, I'm just going to ice and elevate it tonight and see how it feels and I mustn't be afraid of missing out a training session to give my body time to recover properly (easier said than done though...)! Tomorrow is a non-running day anyway so I might do some light strength work tomorrow but only if my knee doesn't hurt!
