So I went out for a short 2 mile recovery run to shake out my legs from yesterday and I noticed that my left knee felt off right from the get go. I thought it would settle down like most my niggles usually do so I carried on running. I had to stop a few times, walk and stretch it out which seemed to help but the pain returned as soon as I resumed running again! I got to 1.4km (after a lot of stopping and starting) and the pain in my knee suddenly got worse to a point I was almost limping, so I stopped immediately and decided that I would walk home because I didn't want to risk anything further.
I have to walk down a steep hill to get to my house and that was the most painful part! So painful that I was limping and grimacing, I even had to walk sideways down the hill so it didn't hurt so much! So I think I must have done something to my knee during my long run yesterday because I did run down a very very steep hill and it has caused my knees problems before (Then again, I was in my new running shoes today so they could have also contributed to it...)! Anyway, I definitely feel like I made the right decision not continuing my run today, given the fact that walking down a hill was so painful!
I'm not too concerned about it given that I am not training for any upcoming races anyway, I'm just going to ice and elevate it tonight and see how it feels and I mustn't be afraid of missing out a training session to give my body time to recover properly (easier said than done though...)! Tomorrow is a non-running day anyway so I might do some light strength work tomorrow but only if my knee doesn't hurt!

Thanks, yeah taken a day off running today and might have to do so tomorrow too. Might just focus on strength training to be honest. My knee in general is fine, but it still really hurts when I'm walking downhill. It must have been that very steep hill I ran down the other day...
Time to take a rest then, I'm in the same boat, I'm cycling instead at the minute. Strength training tomorrow though.
Thanks, feeling better yesterday but walked home from work yesterday (which is one big long downhill!) and it was quite painful so something still isn't quite right.
I know that I>C>E is often used by us to overcome aches and pains, but I remember reading somewhere that for soft tissue injury try warmth rather than ice and allow the swelling if present, it restricts movement, natures way to get you to rest, warmth improves blood flow and I guess healing. Just an observation, not medical advice, but it did resonate with me as a good idea. Hope the knee sorts it's self out in short order.
