Another tricky week for many of us, but I know we’re all counting our blessings and finding the positives. For me, I’m happy to say the Bath HM organisers finaly agreed to send a medal and t-shirt to those who ran a virtual HM instead of attending the main event. I’m also enjoying running without pressure of an impending event ( my cycle event has also been cancelled so there is really no pressure on the cycling either, but I'll try to stick to plan and hit the 100k by end May if possible) and I get to run more often as my distances are lower. Finally, the weather is great and spring has finally sprung – that’s enough to raise a smile 😊

EDITED TO ADD: and team UK are through to the semi finals of the Running World Cup too! Next weekend will count !!!

Are you planning to run a virtual event in place of one that has been cancelled? Our events posts are still open (see below) so let us know there if you plan something and we can be there to raise our pom poms and cheer you on your way.

Remember - Keep running if you can. Keep active when you can. Keep in touch.

How’s your week been? How are you making the best of it? Let us know below.

Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion! If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.

Here's the β€˜events’ links for March or April in case you have something virtual planned: πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

April: healthunlocked.com/marathon...

Happy running to those who can, speedy healing to anyone nursing an injury or illness and virtual hugs to everyone.

Take care, stay safe.

Such good news about the bling Linda, they couldn’t really say no could they?

I know I said I’d take a month off running to rest and get rid of my various niggles, but I had hoped to keep up with the aerobic exercise at the gym which of course now I can’t do ☹️ So I’m going to try a little jogette tomorrow to see how things are. The weather is too glorious not to run and my knees are much better, although all the kneeling in the garden has probably not been a good idea. But even if I keep mileage down I should be ok for a few runs each week.

Have a good week everyone and keep safe and busy πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸ™‚

Oooh, that sounds like something to look forward to IP, glad to hear things are feeling better now the pressure is off. Hope you enjoy the run and that the knees behave themselves too!

I’ve run only 20K this month Linda so my logic is that my legs have already had a good rest!

According to e.mail I received, and the website we are through to the semi finals ? I thought this round was from last 16 to quarter finals πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

You're absolutely right! I've corrected it! I'm a mathematician. My fraction understanding is fine. But I always get this wrong. Four teams? Four? That's quarter right? Duh! There's a great video on FB of a mum teaching her kids fractions. With the help of a glass and a bottle of wine. I'm off to take a lesson 😍

Well done on your achievements Linda! I hope we don’t get forced into full lockdown, but for a cyclist that would be even worse - unless you have a supersized garden! 🚲

I’m looking forward to receiving my Bath bling and teeshirt, but I’ve still not received the confirmation email, have you? They have my money and evidence, so I’m waiting! πŸ…

My runs are currently limited to the common. Hilly and exposed to the wind, but at least it’s drying out nicely. πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ If lockdown happens, my garden will have to suffice. I might run the perimeter tomorrow so I can calculate how many laps 5k would be! πŸ˜…

Stay safe. ❀️

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to cheekychipmunks

I haven't heard anything either! It's so nice that things are finally starting to dry up isn't it. I might consider buying a turbo trainer for indoor cycling. My daughter just ordered a pole - I won't be trying that! I'm too precious about my grass to run laps on itπŸ™ˆπŸ™ŠπŸ™‰πŸ™„. I have a treadmill but it's inside and a b@gger to move so hot and bored I will be if it comes to it. I'm just hoping we get a bit longer outside as I (foolishly) signed up for the Local Landmarks Half Marathin and don't really want to run that distance any sooner than this coming weekend. So fingers firmly crossed that we can get out for a few more days 🀞

cheekychipmunks profile image
cheekychipmunksHalf Marathon in reply to linda9389

You don’t fancy a pole? I have no idea why not! πŸ˜‚ A friend of mine used to use one and she had abs of steel though!

Looks like we’re ok for a bit longer at least ........ such a relief Boris specifically mentioned exercise/running. πŸ‘

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to cheekychipmunks

Huge relief! I'll let you know if the pole proves too tempting to resist! As my daughter is 'at risk' at work, I'll have to be sure to sanitise it well first πŸ˜‚

Good news on the medal and t shirt it was the least they could do really you did the sensible thing and ran elsewhere. And sorry to hear about you cycling event but I guess you expected that but it’s still disappointing nether the less. It’s great news about the running World Cup semis hopefully we will be allowed out to run by the weekend 😊🀞

Sounds promising doesn't it. Nothing else sounds promising, but the running and the cycling is good for another day at least ....

I'm thinking about you all today, and have been wondering what the guidance is about your one trip out to exercise every day. We've also been told that stricter rules are coming here today, but am not really expecting a lockdown, as our PM said the other day that it isn't an option at this stage. We can run practically run straight into the house via a few neighborhoods, so maybe I'm finally going to get lots of practice trail running.

Yesterday was pretty busy at work, which I have to enjoy while it lasts, so unless we go into lockdown, I'll push my HM back to Thursday.

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to C3PO

I think we are more than a bit relieved that we can at least have one period of outdoor exercise today. I for one thought we might have lost that by today. I think so long as we practice social distancing i.e. 6ft away from anyone and not in groups larger than tw, it should be OK. Sincerely hoping people are sensible and don't put this in danger. Good luck to you.

C3PO profile image

Thanks. The stricter rules were just announced, and don't affect most of us. No lockdown!

linda9389 profile image

That's good news for your running! Fingers crossed you won't need a lockdown. We had already gone beyond the point where I was ready to welcome a lock down, especially one where we can still run!

Hello all. Just wondering what good at home workouts you've found? We have access to Youtube and Amazon Prime on our biggish TV so if accessible on either of those I am grateful for any recommendations. I already do Adrienne Yoga, but other family members looking for something a bit more intense on the cardio side/strength training and so on. My teenage daughter gave Joe Wicks a go this morning as I wasn't around (doing urgent errands for house bound in laws) to help with Amazon/Youtube, and that was all she could find. She said it was great fun but she was probably older than target audience. GOOD FOR HIM for doing that! What a star. Thank you.

One app I picked up from a post on the Strength & Flex forum is FitOn. It's free and has a variety of workouts. Your children may find something on there? I've just been using it on my phone screen rather than the TV. Whether there is a laptop version you could scren through the TV I'm not sure. Nike also have a fitness app which is free. You may find other suggestions in S&F forum, or in Oldfloss's Off the Couch posts in the C25K forum. Good luck. We all need to be a bit creative don;t we πŸ™‚

Thanks so much - great tips. I have Nike Run, didn't know there was another fitness app too. I'm quite happy with my little lot, yoga, run/walk with dog, rinse repeat but husband and kids need more variety I think to maintain focus whilst at home. And to be able to exercise in the house/garden as well as the one trip out a day will be great for them. I'm used to being here for extended periods - I work at home - but quite different for them!

My son asked today if we have a spare adult bike. He even asked if he could come with me for an hour next time I'm out. that wouldn't have happened in 'normal life'. Maybe it won't just be bad things that these next weeks shake up πŸ™‚

UnfitNoMore profile image

🀣

Nike Training Club is excellent, but some of the β€œbeginners” sessions are a little tougher than I’d give to an absolute beginner though. You can follow a plan on there for specific needs. There are 4 plans... one needs a full gym, one needs no equipment at all... the other two are configurable for what you have. You can even add running to the plans... but these are 15 minute and half hour runs, so not for non runners. That all said, kids are used to PE lessons and so may be able to cope better than I did with these a couple of years ago.

I’m impressed, so far, with FitOn... I’ll comment more on this once I’ve done a couple of weeks on it.

Davina McCall was on radio 5 the other day, talking about making her website free for the duration of the virus and said many other fitness sites are doing the same. So, my advice would be to try a few different apps/sites and see what you like best, maybe mix it up a little... once you’re more used to such training, Nike Training can kick butt all day long if you want it to, and will remain free forever.

Hope this helps.

Superb. That’s so helpful. My teenage daughter is up for a physical challenge - county hockey player and runs with me so it could be the making of her to have a fairly tough programme to follow!

UnfitNoMore profile image
UnfitNoMoreMetric Marathon in reply to Joster

Once the Nike Plans start, it’s possible to crank them up... in β€œedit plan” (just above the week’s schedule) there’s a difficulty setting. Unlike in their running app things can be changed during a plan an it will adapt instantly. Your daughter will soon find her level.
