Sorry about all those sporting events being cancelled because of the coronavirus, I am on the way back from my 17th parkrun, great atmosphere, however, many of the people I met think it could be the last run for a while because of the virus

Hi roseabi yes it’s such a shame when people have put in so much effort in training!☹️

Keep going everyone and do what you canπŸ™‚πŸ‘πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Above all stay safe and listen to advice from experts and the authorities, not people on social media!😊

Good luck everyone🀞🀞

Ach it's all pretty rubbish, but glass half full and all, I wonder if there will be a flurry of autumn events this year as all the tshirts and medals are already made up! Could be a cracking end of year for everyone πŸ˜„ Keep running pals! By the time the races start up again you'll be SUPER FIT and there will be smiley faces and PBs galore.

Strange times for sure. Yeah Sqkr maybe lots of events in autumn and winter instead. Stay safe everyone

The Great Scottish Run and the London Marathon are now on the same day, 4th October.

My heart goes out to everyone whose target events have or are about to be cancelled. I was really looking forward to being able to run HM’s again when my recovery programme finishes by the end of this month, having been in virtual isolation myself from most group running activities since the beginning of February. Looks like we’ll have to find our own solo runs until the autumn maybe? Hoping that some of the smaller events are able to continue though.

Yes, sobering stuff. The race fee refund thing had already crossed my mind as I’d written if off after I paid it. At least it would still go to a good cause.

I do feel for Bath. They’re being absolutely panned on FB. It must be so hard for all the organisers. I for one won’t be requesting a refund as it’s my choice not to run. I wouldn’t mind my bling though if I send my proof of HM distance run tomorrow. πŸ…πŸ…

That's not a bad idea!! It's all about the bling. 😊.

I wouldn’t say this in the company of non-runners, but the lack of bling was upsetting me a lot! πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ…πŸ…

Enjoy your run tomorrow Munks, you could order a HM medal from one of the virtual runner websites. I did that for my first HM.

Nope, I get it. It was the ONLY reason I moved from 5-10K runs, just to get some bling πŸ™„

Great link! Hastings Half is cancelled as of this morning. We've all been offered free entry next year but I would like them to keep my fee as the event raises a lot of money for charity. I won't miss what I've already paid and am hoping that when the dust settles a bit they will give us this option x

Bath should maybe listen to Hastings and all the countless other sporting events being cancelled. πŸ™„

pianoteacher
pianoteacherMarathon in reply to cheekychipmunks

I am quite surprised it's still going ahead to be honest Cheeky. The race director of Hastings is in the same running club as me and on Wednesday it was all still going ahead. They obviously feel there's been a significant enough change in the situation (I don't really watch TV or listen to radio news so I'm always playing catch up a bit!) as there's no way he would cancel lightly x

cheekychipmunks
cheekychipmunksHUHM v10Mile in reply to pianoteacher

It featured first on the local news - everyone seems surprised it’s going ahead - and tempers seem to be rising. Horrid situation. πŸ‘Žβ˜ΉοΈ

New support shoes on Monday.

Don’t think EK’s Nike shoes are for this old trotter.πŸ™ˆπŸ€£

Actually Abi,

While washing the car and thinking about a trot I thought about EK’s Nike shoesπŸ€”

There is one circumstance that would result in a purchase of them for me,if I knew I was going to succumb to any circumstance soon, just think of going out in a shroud and these shoes.πŸ’₯

What a way to go.πŸ‘πŸ’₯β˜„οΈπŸ˜‚πŸ™ˆ

Thanks Abi, thought of you yesterday afternoon as the news came in. Ours was cancelled this morning, not even postponed which is quite galling. We’ve had a post parkrun discussion about it and decided to do it anyway and find a virtual run so we can still get some bling. The only thing is that having to wear the hydration vest will mean the charity is covered up on my top, but there’ll be no one to see it anyway.

Keep going everyone and stay safe, you know it makes sense xxx

Neutral fit πŸ€”, Carbon fibre energy plate like Hoka One One πŸ€”

Great report on Runner’s World comparing top 2020 shoes.

Going to try on a few support shoes from a good few of the top ten at Up & Running.

Still comes down to how comfortable.

Was impressed with home understanding/little appreciation feet tests even before gait analysis as supplied on shoe manufacturers web sites.

I am perhaps going to take some shifting away from Brooks.Pleased I have my support OC’s and Saucony neutral trails.

Got to KISS it.Way above my pay grade.πŸ™ˆπŸ€£

In the end I think the cancellation of the London marathon was a relief...it was the ongoing uncertainty which was so draining and demoralising. So whilst I’m ver sad not to be running my first marathon 3 days before my 63rd birthday! I will be running it 161 days after my 63rd birthday or 206 days before my64th. But whatever I will be running it. BUT will have to miss the Cardiff HM ☹️ Stay safe and keep running x

My heart goes out to everyone who put so much work into their training plans but like Squeak says, it may mean a flurry of fall and winter events and bling. We’ll just have to see. In the meantime virtual races, and maybe some solo runs through beautiful places will need to sustain us. As long as we have perspective and be kind to one another, I believe we can get through all of this.
