We thought it would be fun to make some temporary special badges to commemorate our virtual races at this difficult time. So I would like to introduce...
Let us know your planned date either here or on our monthly pinned events post.
β Please note CAREFULLY the following suggestions for running a virtual race:
- Be sensible. Depending upon your location it may not be safe nor fair on others for you to be spending hours outside at the moment. Consider chunking up your race over a number of days.
- Keep at least 2 metres away from other people
- Run alone or with one person who lives with you
- Record your runs, obviously π
- Celebrate when you have completed the distance! πππ
Strava do virtual races you can sign up to. This weekend is the NYRR Virtual 5K and Virtual Half. I haven't decided which one I'll do yet, maybe both if time and body allows. I'll let you know Monday π€£
I'm SO sad that my half in San SebastiΓ‘n has been changed to April 2021, which is no longer in Easter week. Was thinking of going anyway and running on my own (my own route away from people) but I have just had my language school shut down for a minimum of 2 weeks and maybe by April 5th, we will be confined at home. Scary times! Trying to cheer myself up by carrying on with my training as I suppose I could do my half here at home beside the sea.
I was doing Limassol Marathon 10k, my first 10k event. Quite expensive too but there was beer at the end! That has been put back to my Birthday in November! I then signed up for the Girne 10k, then that was cancelled! My spinning classes were cancelled from yesterday then today they decided to go one step further and close the gym! So I will do short runs on the Gym days or go for a walk in the hills!
I MAY have to do a virtual 5K run tomorrow, I hope to go to parkrun tomorrow to add 5K to my total kilometers ran for the Vitality World Running Cup, however, although at the time I post this at 3.50pm Friday, the UK parkruns have so far not been cancelled, its the only country in Europe that the parkruns are still on, I keep checking the cancelled parkrun website, there is a big notice with a red background warning that ALL parkruns everywhere are cancelled until April, there is a list of countries with cancellations but the UK is not on that list, if the UK runs are cancelled I will run a ".vitural" 5K locally in the morning and report back here after my run.
What a great idea to have a virtual run badge, thank you! I will look into running a Canicross one - not able to run event tomorrow due to throat/chest infection βΉοΈ
Aww thanks roseabi, thatβs just what Iβll be doing in lieu of Bath, even though itβs going ahead. π±. Iβll even wear my charityβs t-shirt! Thatβs a lovely idea β€οΈβ€οΈ
Weβre moving our HM to 3rd May and will be plotting a route soon. We canβt run the original route as some of the roads that would have been closed are too busy. Just getting the HU HM badge would have been special but this will be extra so β€οΈ
Great stuff! We will be posting regularly about this in the coming weeks, and look forward to giving you your VBadge, and to reading your Vreport πππ
Thatβs a brilliant idea, thank you! I donβt know if my 10k Race Iβve entered next weekend will be on (Saturday), but Iβm not sure Iβll do it even if it is. But I do plan to run my first 10k nonetheless!
With Edinburghβs events shifted until the first weekend in September Iβve made a pact with a fellow running friend that if we remain healthy and thereβs no further restrictions on being outside, weβll plot out and run a safe virtual half somewhere local on the original date (24th May). Will need to think about hydration, but keen to keep a focus for our training.
Hi roseabi! I did my virtual 10k on Saturday as my real race was cancelled! I did it faster than I had expected - 1:10 - and Iβm so proud even if I didnβt get to do a real life race. Please may I have a virtual badge?
My 10k wintoncastle.co.uk/activiti... this coming Saturday is off, but my plan is still to go out and run 10k somewhere. The annoying thing is that the run is on the route where most of my 10k runs are done (as it's around my village) so I'm probably going to have to find a slightly different route at a different time of day to avoid the people "doing it anyway"...
I did a virtual half marathon today. Do I qualify? It was a solo run around Oslo as part of the Local Landmarks Half Marathon - the virtual event from the LLHM.
I'm doing one for Roy Castle lung cancer. It was originally scheduled for Easter Sunday, but they now say we can do it whenever we want... I'm going to be doing it with @Toonlou - at the same time but not in the same place. We have yet to decide the time/date but probably this weekend. 5 K
