So today I walked to work and the top of my ankle was really painful and has been painful all day following a harder than anticipated run in new shoes yesterday. My ankle definitely feels tender to the touch and does not feel like the normal soreness after a hard run. I'm definitely not going to run tomorrow and see how everything feels on Wednesday. If I have skip my last two training runs and run on race day, then so be it!
Looks like I'm having similar problems to IrishPrincess too (still can't work out how to tag!)! Hopefully we will both be fine for race day! π

I would say definitely rest it if it still feels really off. Personally I would not run those last two training runs to be safe. Maybe even see a physio or your doctor if you can manage it, just to ensure it is nothing serious. Itβs your choice though. Pain measurement is very personal.
Yeah I shall see how things feel tomorrow but still won't run probably. I can't get a doctors appointment in time which is annoying, I probably could see a physio but I can't afford the fee at the moment. It feels okay this morning and will continue to ice it and see how we go from there.
Oh crikey RC! do take care. You're doing the right thing. Ice and rest, butalso try to keep your ankle mobile if you can without additional pain - not weight bearing movement but circling your feet gently in mid air, writing the alphabet in mid air with your big toes, that sort of thing. You could also ask the sports massage folk for advice when you see them this week. Sending healing vibes your way π
Thanks for all the advice, will definitely try all of that! Yes, I will definitely ask the massage people about it too, that's tomorrow so looking forward to it! I've actually been feeling fine today - been icing both areas every night and also cold patches during the day when I am out of the house and that has seemed to have helped. I think I will continue to ice up until the race I think just to be safe. I heard from a friend of mine that you should only ice for 20 minutes at a time, any longer and it will damage your nerve endings? Have you heard of this advice before? I'm sure I've heard of people icing for longer...
Your friend is right. Short periods, but you can do it often throughout the day. Also never put the ice directly to your skin. Glad it's feeling less painful. Good luck tomorrow π
Ah I see! Yes I knew about never putting the ice directly onto your skin, that would not be good! Do you use any specific ice packs or anything? I'm just using a bag of frozen peas at the moment
Oh no Redcello, just saw this. I hope youβre feeling better today? Definitely rest before Sunday Iβd say. No running, maybe a gentle walk or two to stay limber.
Yeah feeling a lot better today, icing and resting has helped a lot I think! Can't believe it's getting so close! I had the email through from the charity I am running for confirming all the timings for the morning of the race yesterday and it just hit me and just got real!
Rest and lots of that ice Redcello41 ! Fingers crossed and π that both you and Irishprincess make it to that start line and can enjoy what you've both worked so hard for.ππ€x
Thanks for the encouragement! Yep, going to ice every night up until the race I think just to be on the safe side! I don't want to risk anything when I'm this close to race day and considering there was a time when I was in hospital before Christmas not knowing if I would be able to run at all! Thankfully I can, I just want to get to race day now, this week is crawling by so slowly!
