Just a quick update

Finished the marathon Sunday tired legs as expected. Woke the next morning with the usual stiff legs / everything) so I thought I’d go for a walk to loosen up no problem. later that day/ the next morning my left ankle and radiating above it had swollen up like a balloon and I can barely walk due to the pain. I remember during the race my left foot seemed to be moving about a lot in my wet shoe and felt like I was going to get a blister on the sole of my foot after re tightening my lace the movement seemed to stop, or did it? Perhaps this was the cause. I’m itching to get out for a small run but can’t and it’s too painful to walk for any great distance I’m guessing it’s a sprain and will just have to wait but its so frustrating

Hope everyone else is ok with no lasting problems 👍😊

I'm so sorry to see this, what a comedown 😥

Rest well, and I think you should give your GP a call just to be on the safe side xxx

Noo, Runsome, that’s not fair. I can imagine how you’d love to go for a lovely loosening run, so that ankle is a right nuisance. At least it didn’t scupper your marathon (clutching at an optimistic straw ....)

Take it easy. I’m sure you won’t be sidelined for too long 🤞🤞

Thanks CC yes your right it could have happened during the marathon so there is a bright side. I’m sure it will ease off fairly soon 🤞and I’ll get out then 😊👍

😀👏👍🏃

I hope it comes right soon. I just did a very gentle 5m Wednesday and the same again after work tonight at a really gentle pace (12min mile) use this time to look at your Marathon stats and journey so far and be really proud. Lots of advice after a Marathon is to take a full week or two off anyway so treat is very much like this. Let your body repair and heal and then have your first run as a Marathoner 💥💥💥

Thanks GTFC I will use the recovery time and take it easy when I can get back out 👍😊

Oh no!!! The enforced rest will be doing you all sorts of good (that's what I keep telling myself anyway 🤔😀). Here's to some very speedy healing 🤞

Thanks Linda I will go with that too but it’s perfect running weather outside and it’s a bit frustrating. I will keep my fingers crossed for both of us for some very speedy heeling 🤞🤞😊

I'm just going to jump on my bike for an hour as consolation prize 😀. As you say, it's too nice to be injured!

☹️.....nooooo! Rest, rest rest....I did read that some tweaks can take a bit of time to appear after a marathon......i’m very happy to take at least a week off,...(although I’ve got that little voice in my head going.....you might be able to go out earlier.....😂.).......I’ve done a couple of short walks, but that’s all....so far.

I consoled myself by buying a new pair of trail shoes......well it was muddy on Sunday......🤷‍♀️😂......

Take good care of yourself....🤞

Hi Madge50 rest sounds best but like you I’ve got that little voice in my head. I will be patient and wait otherwise I’ll may go on even longer.🙁 As for the new Trail shoes reasoning it sounds perfectly good logic to me 😂😊

Better post race than during but still frustrating! I have had ankle niggles on and off since the marathon but I was expecting that. Therefore I decided to not run all week to allow recovery time. I am hoping to get out either later today or tomorrow and test the legs!

I also have some new shoes sitting pretty in a box just calling to me to go out 🤣 Oh the temptation!

Yes Runfasterdoyle better after than destroy my marathon attempt, just have to rest as best I can then go for it slowly. hope your recovery run goes well and the temptation must be unbearable to get them lovelies on and get out there. I’ve got a pair of New balance 40th London Marathon shoes in a box unworn I thought it better not to wear new shoes on the day so I will have to save them until April 22. Now that’s going to be unbearable too😂

in reply to Runsome

😲 you got those NB London beauts!! I dont know how you are going to keep those until April, thats torture! I would like the ladies red NB London t shirt but its out of stock on line. But TKMax are selling the kit cheap apparently.

It will be hell not using them Runfasterdoyle . Yes I’ve seen on Facebook lots of people at TKMax buying them up but they all seem to be smaller sizes which is no good for me, before the marathon I tried to order my size from the official website but they were out of stock. TKMax always seems to me to be like a jumble sale with some hidden gems but that’s just my opinion so you may be lucky.😊

Oh ruddy eck! Ruddy annoying but it does go with the territory. I do hope with rest and ice (which is fantastic by the way) you’ll soon be back out there. The anti-inflammatories do take a while to kick in but the pain killer side of things works straight away - should you choose to take them that is 🙂

If it’s a sprain you’d expect bruising - although might take a few days to show up. I hope it’s not, and that once the swelling goes down, things will look better

Ever the optimist 👍🙂

Thanks misswobble for the good advice I’m resting when I can but working sort of stops that a bit. Swelling seems to be subsiding but no bruising as yet.😊👍

That’s a good sign. Go carefully now 😃👍

Hopefully getting better Cswelling had gone down a bit but a lot of walking in work booots today has made it swell right up again hopefully it will go down again tonight with a bit of rest 👍😊
