The tournament has started and team HU is going great, congratulations to everyone who has signed up, joined the team and successfully recorded runs πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

If you’re not in yet, or are having difficulties, maybe you will find something in this post that will help. It contains links to the official VRWC website (which has more information than the app) plus things we have discovered along the way, largely by trial and error!

The official FAQs supplied by Vitality can be found here: runningworldcup.com/help-an...

Topics covered in this post:

β˜… Signing up

β˜… Joining team HU

β˜… Which runs count

β˜… Checking your runs are being recognised (lots of problems still here)

β˜… Duplicated distances

β˜… Individual goals

β˜… Country Leaderboard

Hope this information proves useful. I will pin this post in Bridge and in Marathon and add to it if we learn more. Do comment below if you have any useful tips, or indeed if you are still having difficulties.

Happy Running Everyone - Go Team HU!! πŸ†

----

⭐Signing up!

If you haven’t signed up yet, but would like to represent your country for free, there is still time!

You can find out more and register here: runningworldcup.com/

You can choose to register with your full real name, or you can use your forum name (or a variant of it, so long as you enter something into both First and Last name) to protect your anonymity. The VRWC support team have confirmed that forum names are OK, despite what it says on the registration screen!

⭐ Joining the HU team!

There is also still time to join HU (in theory you can be a member of more than one team, but there is some evidence that this doesn't work properly at the moment, with runs only being reported under one team).

Once you have registered, you can join the HU team by following this link: app.runningworldcup.com/tea...

You will be added to the team with whatever name you registered with 😊

For anyone who has already signed up but would like to change their name to reflect their HU name, you can do so by editing your profile via this link app.runningworldcup.com/pro...

β˜… Do check you really have joined the HU team!

I suggest you double check that your name appears on the HU team member list (a few people have had problems and had to try more than once). To check, either use this link app.runningworldcup.com/teams or click on β€˜Teams’ on the left hand side of the website when you are signed into your account. If you’re in, team HU should show, and if you click on β€˜members’ you should be able to see your name listed.

⭐ Which runs count!

Only runs of at least 3km, where the 3km are completed within 30 minutes will be considered valid and count towards your country total and individual goal (even though shorter runs currently seem to be included in the team member list)

⭐ Check your runs are being recognised!

Sadly lots of people seem to have had problems getting their runs to register in the VRWC. If you’re having problems then have a read through and see if you can find anything here to help.

β˜… Check your tracker is connected

If you have successfully connected your tracker(s) you should already be able to see these tracker(s) when you use this link: app.runningworldcup.com/con... or click on β€˜Run Trackers’ on the left hand side of the website. If it’s not there, then something has gone wrong – most likely the sign in details you input when trying to link the tracker (note, this has nothing to do with the details you used to register, it is based on the sign in details you supply when you try to link the tracker). Try again.

β˜… Check your runs are being found

Even though you have connected your tracker, sometimes runs are not being picked up.

You should be able to see your runs if you use this link app.runningworldcup.com/runs or click on β€˜My runs’ on the left hand side of the website; then click on your connected tracker.

Firstly, you should see each of the trackers you have linked.

Secondly, if you click on the tracker(s) listed, you should be able to see all runs registered by that tracker since you linked that tracker (and even further back in the case of Strava).

If you can’t, then for some reason the VRWC system has not yet got access to your activities, despite having successfully signed into your tracker account. So far, many of the instances we have looked at have arisen because of tight privacy options being set in the tracker itself. In my case, Strava was fine because I have pretty loose security, but nothing was being picked up from my Garmin; however, once I changed my Garmin privacy options my subsequent runs started to show.

β˜… Check your tracker privacy options

Garmin

1. Sign in to your garmin connect account connect.garmin.com/signin

2. Top right hand corner there is your garmin icon - click on this 'profile and account' button and then select 'account settings' from the drop down list

3. Select 'privacy settings' from the list on the left hand side

4. Check the setting for 'activity' on this screen; I have mine set to 'connections', but I think it can be anything EXCEPT 'only me' (because 'only me' means nothing can look at your activities even if you have allowed access to your garmin account).

Strava

1. Sign in to your Strava connect account strava.com/login

2.Top right hand corner there is your Strava icon - click on this button and then select settings' from the drop down list

3. Select 'privacy controls from the list on the left hand side

4. Check the setting for 'activities' on this screen; I have mine set to everyone, but it’s possible β€˜followers’ may work too (because 'only you’ means nothing can look at your activities even if you have allowed access to your strava account).

Mapmyrun

1. Sign in to your Mapmyrun connect account mapmyrun.com/

2.Top right hand corner there is your Mapmyrun icon - click on this button and then select settings' from the drop down list

3. Select 'privacy settings from the list on the left hand side

4. Check the setting for workouts on this screen; I have mine set to β€˜friends’, , but I think it can be anything EXCEPT 'only me' (because 'private’ means nothing can look at your activities even if you have allowed access to your mapmyrun account).

I don’t personally use the other tracker types, but I’m sure it will be a similar process!

β˜… Failing all the above

It is possible to submit details of the activity, with a screenshot of your activity, in order for vrwc to add it manually. This was their response:

β€˜We are sorry you have having issues with getting your run into our system but please do allow 24 hours for it to appear before worrying. If it has not appeared after 24 hours, we have a document that hopefully can help, and also a manual process if you are really stuck to ensure that your run will be on your account, please visit runningworldcup.com/runs-no... for full details.’

⭐ Duplicated distances!

Where people have more than one tracker connected (to cover for trackers not being picked p correctly!), distances are currently being duplicated. This is a big in the VRWC system which they assure us will be fixed. In the meantime the leaderboards aren’t totally accurate.

⭐ Individual goals!

Individual goals have been added to try to keep up interest for people who's countries get knocked out as we go through the tournament! The default goal for the first week is 5km, and the algorithm is for this to increase by 10% each week if you keep hitting the goal. However, it is not necessary to run this goal distance. It's great if you join the challenge - but it's meant to be for fun, not so anyone feels they have to run at a certain pace or for a certain distance. Please don't be pressured into anything just because of this tournament!

⭐ Checking the country leaderboard!

Remember you’re running for your country! To see how your country is currently doing, check out the leaderboard: runningworldcup.com/leaderb...

I loved this time of year when I lived in Wales - the sheep fields turned from green spotted with white, to white spotted with green, all edged with yellow daffodils and grey stone walls. Just needed blue skies to complete the picture, but that hardly ever happened 😍

Same for me! Garmin and mapmyrun worked, strava not yet! Have de-authorised MMR so it doesn't double up. We're off! UK currently placed third 😍

Good advice from you Linda, I have not had any problems so far tech wise, I am using Mapmyrun, it says my goal is 5K, I have now ran 10..45 Kilometers and at 6pm I was at number 25 out of 108 in the VRWC Healthunlocked GB team list.

From about 5am to 8am I couldn't Login to the Vitality Running World Cup Website on both my Smartphone and Laptop, however, whatever problem there was is now fixed and I can now Login.

The link is timing out for HU team, so is the main site. Also my runs are all registered, the other day I had my qualifying run showing on a pie chart in the app, but that no longer shows on the app, and on their site the pie chart is 0 for my runs - so who knows what's going on with their technical side.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to

I think they are having technical problems with the Website, I think it "crashed" earlier on Sunday, I couldn't Login between 5 and 8am, but I can now do so, this is probably due to the overwhelming number of people who have signed up for it.

Yes, they must be swamped. Hopefully they will be better at it next year

I used to work in IT. This sort of thing really p*sses me off! Some of it is really basic testing they seem to have missed, volume testing is harder but they seem to have had it wrong since the get go and not gotten any better at it! And the app simply wasn't ready in time so is missing functionality that's on the website. Pretty poor show. Rant over 😍

Maybe they took it down to fix some bugs!!! Glad you're in.

I have two more runs to clock up that aren't showing, 4K yesterday and 3k today. It’s not validating some of my runs that I’m sure are within the time limit

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to

If you look at them via 'My runs' on the website using this link app.runningworldcup.com/runs and then clicking on your tracker, are any of your runs listed? are the missing runs listed? are the listed runs ticked as 'valid'? which tracker are you using?

in reply to linda9389

Yes I know all that - that’s how I know they haven’t validated all my run that qualify, and they haven’t even listed yesterday’s 4K trail run which was the exact same pace as today’s 3k run which is ticked. I’m having to use Strava as they doNt have Polar on their list of trackers, though I’ve suggested it . It’s very frustrating to have done the runs and not have them counted. I’ve done 19.7km this week but they r only allowed 10.71

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to

Wow, so you've had a real mixed bag then haven't you. There are so many problems beingc ited with the strava connection that it's hard to see what is going wrong. They're going to be inundated with those forms!

You are not alone, FlickM3. πŸ€” I’m also using Strava & having seemingly endless problems. Good thing it’s not really vital - but really annoying 😨 and a time-sink. ☹️ My test run on 29 Feb shows & is ticked as valid, but nothing since. Grrrrr.

Not TOO late, that's the main thing πŸ˜‚. Just double check your runs are being picked up. Many still aren't as they still seem to have a problem with connecting to Strava which they are allegedly working on (Garmin and mapmyrun seem OK though).

Windoze profile image
WindozeHalf Marathon in reply to linda9389

Will it back date runs or just pick up from when I register. Don't worry about the IT side. Inna total nerd πŸ€“

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to Windoze

Short answer - maybe πŸ™„

Using strava or mapmyrun, it was recognising runs up to 2 weeks prior to registering. But that was before the qualifying period started. Not sure if it will have changed now as this system seems to be a bit of a work in progress πŸ™„πŸ˜. Garmin data definitely didn't back-date though.

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathon in reply to linda9389

Runs that I have ran are on the "your runs ." as far back as July last year, except my PB 10K, however, that was my fault as it was in MapmywalkπŸ˜‚although I ran it..

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to AlMorr

Mapmy run goes back ages, Strava was going back about 2 weeks and Garmin would only look forwards. No idea about the other trackers.

Hi Linda,

Sorry to ask but you perhaps can advise.I mapped a HM distance in the car πŸ™ˆ which I have deleted.Unfortunately it is showing up as a run.Got the notice and made the wrong selection.πŸ™ˆThink the system will delete the entry in time, but I cannot see how to manual delete it from my runs.I have two trots recorded correctly. To be fair to Strava no problems. This was of my making inadvertently.πŸ™ˆ

βοΈπŸ‘πŸ‘

linda9389 profile image
linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to Tbae

If I understand you correctly: you have two runs in strava that are correctly shown in vrwc. You had one 'drive' in strava which recorded as a run and is therefore also shown in vrwc as a run. You have deleted that erroneous run from strava, but it is still showing in vrwc.

Options I can think of:

1. deauthorise strava and then reauthorise it again in the 'Run trackers' section. I think that would delete everything so far from your account, but you do run the risk that vrwc won't pick up the valid runs when you reauthorise strava (many people are still having problems getting runs picked up). If it doesn't pick them up automatically, you would still have the option of using their form, sending screenshots and getting Vitality to add those two valid runs manually

2. Wait, and see if Vitality gets rid of the error run itself

3. Do nothing! It makes up for some of the runs that haven't been picked up for other people!

Your call , but tomorrow is the last day of this qualifying period so don't leave it longer than that to implement whichever option you prefer.

Tbae profile image
TbaeMetric Marathon in reply to linda9389

Thanks Linda,

I have read Q&A thoroughly and since it’s a qualifying stage and fairly broad and indeed UK well up there, decided to do nothing.Qualifying is a certainty.πŸ€”My two valid runs for 5/3 and 8/3

are recorded. My invalid car mapping HM route for 10/3 is now deleted but still shows up as a run on vrwc.Last run tomorrow.

The valid flag may be being utilised for the country counting but it certainly isn't being utilised for the team display. I have a couple of old runs showing up without a valid tick, but they're before the qualifying period so I don't know if they would count to my goal or not.

linda9389AdministratorMarathon in reply to Tbae

I'm just trying to work out why they don't have a valid tick. Was the pace fast enough I wonder? I think it needs to be 10 mins per km or less.

Without that valid tick, I have a feeling they are not going to count for your country, and if your goal progress is showing as 0km then I think that confirms it.

That does sound like a big reduction in workload for their system!

I'd set off with the intention of doing 6 or 7 K but decided somewhere near the end to push it up to 8K (this wasn't a carefully planned run)! I felt like I could have gone further but 8K was more than a 10% increase so that's where I stopped. Unlike some previous runs, I felt fine the day after so, hopefully, I can start building some distance and that's the farthest I've run this year!
