The tournament has started and team HU is going great, congratulations to everyone who has signed up, joined the team and successfully recorded runs πππ
If youβre not in yet, or are having difficulties, maybe you will find something in this post that will help. It contains links to the official VRWC website (which has more information than the app) plus things we have discovered along the way, largely by trial and error!
The official FAQs supplied by Vitality can be found here: runningworldcup.com/help-an...
Topics covered in this post:
β Signing up
β Joining team HU
β Which runs count
β Checking your runs are being recognised (lots of problems still here)
β Duplicated distances
β Individual goals
β Country Leaderboard
Hope this information proves useful. I will pin this post in Bridge and in Marathon and add to it if we learn more. Do comment below if you have any useful tips, or indeed if you are still having difficulties.
Happy Running Everyone - Go Team HU!! π
----
βSigning up!
If you havenβt signed up yet, but would like to represent your country for free, there is still time!
You can find out more and register here: runningworldcup.com/
You can choose to register with your full real name, or you can use your forum name (or a variant of it, so long as you enter something into both First and Last name) to protect your anonymity. The VRWC support team have confirmed that forum names are OK, despite what it says on the registration screen!
β Joining the HU team!
There is also still time to join HU (in theory you can be a member of more than one team, but there is some evidence that this doesn't work properly at the moment, with runs only being reported under one team).
Once you have registered, you can join the HU team by following this link: app.runningworldcup.com/tea...
You will be added to the team with whatever name you registered with π
For anyone who has already signed up but would like to change their name to reflect their HU name, you can do so by editing your profile via this link app.runningworldcup.com/pro...
β Do check you really have joined the HU team!
I suggest you double check that your name appears on the HU team member list (a few people have had problems and had to try more than once). To check, either use this link app.runningworldcup.com/teams or click on βTeamsβ on the left hand side of the website when you are signed into your account. If youβre in, team HU should show, and if you click on βmembersβ you should be able to see your name listed.
β Which runs count!
Only runs of at least 3km, where the 3km are completed within 30 minutes will be considered valid and count towards your country total and individual goal (even though shorter runs currently seem to be included in the team member list)
β Check your runs are being recognised!
Sadly lots of people seem to have had problems getting their runs to register in the VRWC. If youβre having problems then have a read through and see if you can find anything here to help.
β Check your tracker is connected
If you have successfully connected your tracker(s) you should already be able to see these tracker(s) when you use this link: app.runningworldcup.com/con... or click on βRun Trackersβ on the left hand side of the website. If itβs not there, then something has gone wrong β most likely the sign in details you input when trying to link the tracker (note, this has nothing to do with the details you used to register, it is based on the sign in details you supply when you try to link the tracker). Try again.
β Check your runs are being found
Even though you have connected your tracker, sometimes runs are not being picked up.
You should be able to see your runs if you use this link app.runningworldcup.com/runs or click on βMy runsβ on the left hand side of the website; then click on your connected tracker.
Firstly, you should see each of the trackers you have linked.
Secondly, if you click on the tracker(s) listed, you should be able to see all runs registered by that tracker since you linked that tracker (and even further back in the case of Strava).
If you canβt, then for some reason the VRWC system has not yet got access to your activities, despite having successfully signed into your tracker account. So far, many of the instances we have looked at have arisen because of tight privacy options being set in the tracker itself. In my case, Strava was fine because I have pretty loose security, but nothing was being picked up from my Garmin; however, once I changed my Garmin privacy options my subsequent runs started to show.
β Check your tracker privacy options
Garmin
1. Sign in to your garmin connect account connect.garmin.com/signin
2. Top right hand corner there is your garmin icon - click on this 'profile and account' button and then select 'account settings' from the drop down list
3. Select 'privacy settings' from the list on the left hand side
4. Check the setting for 'activity' on this screen; I have mine set to 'connections', but I think it can be anything EXCEPT 'only me' (because 'only me' means nothing can look at your activities even if you have allowed access to your garmin account).
Strava
1. Sign in to your Strava connect account strava.com/login
2.Top right hand corner there is your Strava icon - click on this button and then select settings' from the drop down list
3. Select 'privacy controls from the list on the left hand side
4. Check the setting for 'activities' on this screen; I have mine set to everyone, but itβs possible βfollowersβ may work too (because 'only youβ means nothing can look at your activities even if you have allowed access to your strava account).
Mapmyrun
1. Sign in to your Mapmyrun connect account mapmyrun.com/
2.Top right hand corner there is your Mapmyrun icon - click on this button and then select settings' from the drop down list
3. Select 'privacy settings from the list on the left hand side
4. Check the setting for workouts on this screen; I have mine set to βfriendsβ, , but I think it can be anything EXCEPT 'only me' (because 'privateβ means nothing can look at your activities even if you have allowed access to your mapmyrun account).
I donβt personally use the other tracker types, but Iβm sure it will be a similar process!
β Failing all the above
It is possible to submit details of the activity, with a screenshot of your activity, in order for vrwc to add it manually. This was their response:
βWe are sorry you have having issues with getting your run into our system but please do allow 24 hours for it to appear before worrying. If it has not appeared after 24 hours, we have a document that hopefully can help, and also a manual process if you are really stuck to ensure that your run will be on your account, please visit runningworldcup.com/runs-no... for full details.β
β Duplicated distances!
Where people have more than one tracker connected (to cover for trackers not being picked p correctly!), distances are currently being duplicated. This is a big in the VRWC system which they assure us will be fixed. In the meantime the leaderboards arenβt totally accurate.
β Individual goals!
Individual goals have been added to try to keep up interest for people who's countries get knocked out as we go through the tournament! The default goal for the first week is 5km, and the algorithm is for this to increase by 10% each week if you keep hitting the goal. However, it is not necessary to run this goal distance. It's great if you join the challenge - but it's meant to be for fun, not so anyone feels they have to run at a certain pace or for a certain distance. Please don't be pressured into anything just because of this tournament!
