This week ends with my birthday, so grab yourself a piece of cake on me and let us know how you're doing!
Iβm heartily sick of the wind and the rain and the mud (though at least we haven't had snow). The Bath Half Marathon team have gone so far as to write a blog on how to weather the weather if it's getting in the way of training for Bathalf on 15th March π.
As of this morning I seem to have been struck with a very painful bruised-feeling heel, so no running for me this week - maybe I can force myself to cycle in the rain instead.
How about you? How are you coping? Still getting out for your runs?
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion! If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
Don't forget, if you have an event coming up this coming month (or any changes to one you've mentioned before) let us know in the sticky post! πππ
I know exactly how you feel, I am also tired of wind, rain and mud! I'm glad we haven't had snow and I cannot wait for the better weather to come in spring! I'm still managing to get out on my runs though! Such a shame you have to take a week off running, hope your heel gets better soon! π
You're definitely not letting the weather win though and that's what counts. I'll take a week off without conplaint, but it's SO painful that I'm a bit worried it won't heal before Bath π€
No cake? Calamity! I can't wait to get off the roads too! I'm too much of a wimp to run through mud and jump over puddles, but it must be bad your way to have put you off (you're made of much tougher stuff than me π).
I've managed a 14k and 5k this week and a couple of classes at the gym (one with the dreaded foam roller!)
The Chester 10k will be my first ever race on 8th March, so I'm hoping to do another 2 runs this week in preparation.
I was looking at the race route last night and nearly fainted when I saw the elevation gain -" I'll never do that " I thought in a panic. I finally realised the elevation gain was measured in feet, not metres, so thankfully it's not as steep as I feared. Have a good week ππββοΈπ€ΈββοΈ
Oh my - I've been caught out by elevations in feet before now, very scary! With those distances under your belt you should smash the Chester 10K, I hope you enjoy every minute of it and, remember, we do like reading race reports in this forum π
Happy birthday later on this week! I'll be baking a birthday cake for hubby's birthday tomorrow.
I had a great week on the Isle of Wight last week, and managed to fit in lots of running. It's such an inspiring place. I actually woke up at 6:30 every morning, so that I could be out of the apartment in time for a sunrise run or walk by the beach.
The winds were pretty tough over there, so this morning's 12 km run in lighter winds here in Oslo wasn't too bad. I'm still behind in my LLHM training, but my running is definitely top priority from now on.
Wow, 6.30 every morning despite the rotten weather we've been having - kudos to you! I'm fairly sure everyone from the UK running at LLHM will currently be behind on their schedule, you may be in very good company. I'm waiting to find out what my volunteer role will be - almost as exciting as running it π
I am going to be at the Mother-in-Law's this weekend, so there will be a good chance of cake π
Recovering from my virus and Brighton Half Marathon ordeal this week. Not quite so sore today but still extremely hungry!
The HM was tough with the gales, but at least the rain mostly held off! I failed to finish in under 2 hours (first time in years! And only 47 seconds over - curses!!) so I was a bit annoyed at first, but basically I think I did good πππ
This will be a bit of a life-getting-in-the-way-of-running sort of week, which is a good excuse to rest I suppose!
Recovery, rain, and life have at least all conspired to meet in the same week! Sounds like you might as well eat cake π. It must be very easy to account for those 47 seconds (and more) on the basis of the weather on Sunday. It would mess with my head even before the start line. I'm sure it's frustrating after all the training - but it's the weather and virus that are at fault, not your running!
Well done on your HM! Have I missed a run report on it? (...'runs off to look'). Frustrating to just miss the 2hrs but hey, most of us can only dream of such times! Considering the weather and I think you weren't feeling 100% - I think you should feel pretty proud! βΊοΈπͺ
This weather is abysmal, so much so that I hit the treadmill again yesterday. Iβm due for a long run tomorrow, and I *think* itβs supposed to be ok, so weβll see. π€π€
Ahh no, how disapointing for you all. One of my boys is supposed to be going to Milan next weekend - not sure how much of Milan will be open though! I'm going with Bath HM being 3 weeks off still - gives a bit longer to sort my foot out π. Tomorrow does look better - run for me please while you're out there π
Such a shame linda9389 , but it has to be the right decision, even though I keep wondering if Iβm overreacting. The baby has swung it for me though. Way too precious to risk. π Plus selfishly I was imagining being quarantined in our hotel if we had gone ahead. Iβd have missed the Bath Half ........ π³π±π³
Ok weβll say 3 weeks to go then! Under 3 weeks gives me massive butterflies! π¦ Are you concerned about your foot? Iβll send you some healing vibes .......... π§ββοΈβ€οΈ This is a bumpy road for us all isnβt it? We need to have a blast on the day - and we will! ππ
Oh Munks what a shame. Canβt blame you though, itβs not worth it, is it, especially with a little one. Weβre due to go to Italy in May too, I guess we just need to keep everything crossed at this stage π€
As long as it doesnβt hit Bath any time soon ......ππββοΈπ
Thank goodness I donβt like jelly babies so I wonβt be tempted to take some from strangersβ sticky hands........π₯΄ (I originally typed βsticky strangersβ hands and then realised that didnβt sound right π Canβt be having a sticky stranger can we π)
Youβre right IP, my little grandson is more important than a week in the sun, and once this has all died down weβll go somewhere else. In the meantime Iβll be trotting around in the wind and rain muttering under my breath and trying not to think of what might have been! ππββοΈ
Looking forward to the Bath Half even more now. Somehow the holiday was the buffer between now and then and it was keeping the π¦π¦π¦ at bay. I have them now though! Howβs the knee feeling now? π€π€π€
My husband and I were just saying last night how awful it would be to have to stay in your hotel room for two weeks! Of course my first response was, βand I wouldnβt be able to run!β π
Yes, every time I think about Bath I get the π¦ not long to go π
The knee is okβish. Iβm just back from a tentative jogette. Itβs not bad but I couldnβt run 13 miles on it atm βΉοΈ Thanks for asking Munks π
Very disappointing for you Cheeky - hope you manage to get away together some other time. We have a holiday with family in Tuscany booked for May so have everything crossedπ€
Thanks JonathanP , disappointing indeed, but simply not worth the risk. Our little grandson is robust and Iβm sure weβd be totally fine - but imagine if we werenβt, or if we were quarantined in our hotel? π
Iβm going to sit down with my daughters and amend the flights to go somewhere else later in the year - there will be a fee, but Iβd rather pay that than waste the money already spent. βοΈ
Some things cannot be risked cheeky and little babies are at the top of the list! I whatsapp'd the news to my sister who was travelling to the airport to fly out to Tenerife yesterday. They usually stay at the resort which has been affected, but luckily they were too late to book, so they are staying elsewhere on the island. Some people are taking it a bit far though; friends of ours have just flown home from Japan; they have been nowhere near the area where the cruise ship was quarantined, but people are refusing to meet up with them!
So, a white legged Spring it is! At least I am back running, Ieven did a 4k with some speed injected yesterday (not much speed though!); time to get the old legs moving properly again.
Gosh that is taking it a bit far isnβt it BC? Your poor friends! π Hope your sister and family have a wonderful time. Iβm wonder how it would have worked if theyβd have been staying in the affected hotel - would they even be allowed to check in? π€
Youβre right of course, itβs not worth the risk with the baby. Heβs a robust little soul, but heβs only 5 1/2 months old and it would be unforgivable of me to knowingly put him and my daughters in potential harmβs way. Chances are weβd be fine, but we donβt know for sure.
So yes, running with white legs itβll have to be (oh, and theyβre WHITE!) Weβll go somewhere later in the year when (hopefully) this flipping virus is under control. Iβm willing to pay the fee to amend the flights, as I hate the thought of wasting the money already spent! Weβll sit down later and pick somewhere remote! βοΈ
We are supposed to be going to Canada and on to Hawaii in July, with our Canadian resident daughter and a friend. I think that I just have to take a risk and book it, otherwise we might lose the chance of seeing them. There is no telling where this will end up; fear, as much as reality, will be a big factor.x
Definitely right there. So much of this is common sense. Iβm sure youβll be ok for your wonderful sounding trip to Canada and Hawaii. How exciting! ππ
Having said that, Iβm due to go to Venice with my choir in May. Thatβs pretty close to Ground Zero in Europe, so Iβll be very surprised if we go. Booo. βΉοΈ
Oh no cheeky! So sorry to hear that but as you say, itβs best to be safe. Letβs hope it doesnβt all go on too long and that it doesnβt affect all our race entries π±π€π€π€
Oh no Lindaπ£ sorry to hear you have pain in your heel, I hope some rest from running will sort it. You know what to do, but it is so frustrating and painful.
I hope you have something nice planned for your birthday later this week.
Hugs from me, and I hope it clears quickly.πxxx
Thanks BB! Of course you know exactly how it feels. I'm considering trying to get a physio appointment immediately to maximise my chance of it being OK. It's not a niggle, it's a whacking great 'I don't want to put my foot down' sort of pain that came from nowhere! π€¬π€¬π€¬. Glad to see you keeping up with your S&F - you're doing a great job of hanging on in there π
I am a bit off this week as I have foot pain which I am hoping will go with the usual RICE etc... so I am doing zone 2 runs to keep it gentle all week.I am trying hard to fit in more weights work but finding it a struggle. I had every intention last night when I got home from work, but the house was a tip, and I had a chicken to cook, by which time, after eating it was 8.30 and that is half an hour before my bedtime. So it was a no no. Onwards and upwards tho...
Thank you π. Your foot's been niggling for a while now hasn't it, no fun, but bothing stops you πͺπ I'd really like to trade my feet in for a new pair ... or maybe it's my calves I need to replace. Hope yours is back to 100% again very soon.
That reminds me - must try to get to bed earlier myself! I am terrible at faffing around and going to bed far too late. I am sure it would help with my running too!
Oh I hope your heel eases up soon and also an early happy birthday in case I miss saying it later! I have my only scheduled race on Sunday. Not sure what the weather will be like. We just had a snow warning for Wednesday. Hopefully it will be dry. I feel very unprepared for this one, with all that happened on the work front leading up to it, Iβve not really focused on training hard for it, so I will just go to enjoy the race and the day. Happy running everyone!
There's a lot to be said for just turning up to enjoy the race and the day, we should all try that once in a while π. Hopefully any snow you do get will be of the easy to run on variety - if there is such a thing. Screws at the ready? π. Good luck!
Oh no Linda! Not what you need! You with heel pain, me with knee pain π I have actually searched if I can walk the Bathhalf and apparently you can as long as itβs within 4 hours. Iβm keeping this up my sleeve.
I still havenβt tried a run since Friday, just resting and doing all the usual. It does seem a lot better but Iβve been kneeling (in the garden) and doing weights in the gym and I can still feel it niggling π‘ but I think Iβm a bit paranoid now and feeling everything as bad.
If it feels ok tomorrow I might go for a short jogette to test the waters.
I hope your heel pain goes away asap. Thanks for the cake π and a very Happy Birthday πππΎπ₯ to you x
It's horrid how it gets into your head all the time isn't it! Good luck tomorrow, I hope it behaves. If worst comes to worst I'll walk with you! But it won't. Let's think positive here π
Sadly we have had snow up here which has meant me not getting out since Wednesday. I'm fairly indifferent to inclement weather, but having snow, sleet and hail driven horizontally into your face by storm force winds is a step further than I'm prepared to go. All of my local parkruns on Saturday were off as they were deemed unsafe, either through parts of the course being flooded, or as a result of fallen trees.
Pretty fair to say that after my exploits in January, February has been a pretty quite month on the running front.
It's dry just now, I'm just hoping it stays that way until I've finished work.
I didnβt know your birthday is coming up!!! This definitely calls for cake, a real one, with a nice cup of tea β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ Hope we can meet soon x
The Weather has been putting me off if Iβm honest but this morning when I woke up and saw sunshine creeping through the blinds I sprang out of bed and went out just happy to do a 5K for today... but when I got to 3K I thought what a shame to waste this morninga brightness (who knows when we might get it this good again!) so I went on to do 10K. Just a βplod alongβ run but I came home feeling really good about it. Iβve been keeping to my plan of 10k every couple weeks.
We are all falling apart linda9389; niggles and worse all over the place! My birthday is on Saturday. It is Tasha99 's 100th Park Run too....although the forecast is for torrential rain, snow and gales! Not really promising. On the up side, I completed the 22nd K of my comeback yesterday. I decided to stick to 4k but I upped the pace a bit; still 45 seconds off 5k PB pace but steps in the right direction. Muddy trails don't help. I managed a steady 8k on Saturday too, so getting there. π€ that is the end of winter bugs!
Nearly Happy Birthday, Linda!π Sorry to hear about your heel π« - sending healing vibes your way. I really hope it settles down soon for you.π€
Not a great start to the week for me (hormones! I'll say no more!) and first sign of a cold (annoying) but hope to run tomorrow and then again at the weekend as usual. Like many others, getting a bit bored of all the rain, with the rest of the week not looking particularly great!
I need to find time this week I think, to start properly planning my build up towards RunGatwick HM in May. I am thinking that there is plenty of time to include drop back weeks in training and also hopefully a chance to run the full distance over the Easter hols too. I feel as though I am already crossing my fingers in the hope of avoiding injury and illness etc etc - but all we can do is plan and hope that life doesn't throw a curve ball, I guess!π€π€
You certainly know what to do to minimise the risk of injury - that's really all we can do isn't it. If you're getting fed up of the weather, despite your liking of mud, then there's no hope for me π€£π€£π€£
π€£π€£π€£ We all have our limits! I only get on to my lovely muddy trails at the weekend (now that half term is over) - pavement pounding in the rain, is just not the same!
