Whispering it quietly - I’m training for a HM!

So after a while lurking in this forum, I have decided to train for a HM at the start of April - eek! Currently up to 8 mile runs in training, so hopeful I will get to 13 miles in the next 6 weeks.

It’s a big birthday year for me, and I have been inspired by a friend who is also training for a half to celebrate the same birthday.

I’m hoping to raise some sponsorship for the National Flood Forum, a small charity who support flood risk communities, and who will be even more busy after this weekend and last.

Wish me luck!

Fab Sue. That’s an awesome thing to train for! I start training for mine in 4 weeks. Have booked myself in for one on the 21st of June. Currently on a very restricted diet so only doing about 4K 2 times a week

Keep us posted on your achievements 👍🏻😁🏃🏼‍♀️

I ran (mostly!) 9 miles this morning, who knew when we started our C25k journey?? Good luck with your training too!

I remember almost killing myself after 30 seconds lol

Yeah same! That first 30 seconds was such hard work! Now I can run continuously for more than an hour and up hills! Who knew! :-D

I still don’t love the hills but am learning to hate them less😊

Yeah, I'm not so keen on them either but they make you stronger and fitter! I recently had a run session with a run coach and she gave me a few tips (like take baby steps, slow everything down, keep your posture straight and relaxed, keep your head up) to run up hills without running out of breath! I've tried the tips and they work so well! Now I'm not so scared of hills! 😃

Hellooo stranger 😍. Welcome to this community!

What a great way to celebrate a big birthday - very exciting.

We are currently running a group for spring Half marathoners; there is a weekly post with lots of useful info and discussion. The latest one is always in the pinned posts and contains links to all the previous posts. Follow roseabi and myself to receive email notifications of new posts. Take a look at the latest one here healthunlocked.com/marathon...

Which HM have you chosen - would you like to be added to our group list?

Once you get to 10 miles you can have a shiny new badge here to keep until you reach the magic HM distance.

Good luck, enjoy your training and if you have more questions, ask away!

Hi Linda - yes please - do add me to the Spring HM list. I’ve signed up for Coventry on 5th April. I ran 9 miles this morning, but the 10 mile target still seems such a long way off!

I'll add you to the list! You're so, so close to 10 miles now! You've got plenty of time yet. And breathe ... 🙂. Get yourself some new music or maybe plan a new route? That extra mile will just disappear. You can definitely do this 💪👍

Excellent! You will be going through the whole gamut of emotions I'm sure.

It sounds like you are building up nicely, so you body will be well prepared even if your mind is full of doubt. As with the C25k, the longer runs are a mental game and you will never know you can, until you have - even then it'll take along time to sink in.

Just know it is all well worth it, and you will be thinking about your next HM soon enough 😂😂

I remembered the mental game on my long run this morning. My C25k gremlin is always ready to make an unwelcome comeback!

Such an exciting decision. Well done! I hope you enjoy the journey and, of course, the race itself. I did my first HM last year and am currently preparing for the London Marathon - it is amazing where these HM decisions can lead....Looking forward to hearing all about your training. Good luck and enjoy it.

Thanks everyone for the comments - all good stuff. I’m hoping to be doing Coventry on 5th April. I did a 9 mile training run this morning (with a little bit of jeffing!).
