Gosh, I haven't posted Weekly Chat for a while! How are you all doing? I fell over on my run last Monday and had to go to the A&E for stitches in my chin, *sigh*. You've got to laugh. 😂
It's not often I do a "NOO SHOOS" post either, so here goes 😊
A few weeks back I bought myself a Christmas present of some Inov-8 Roadclaws (R in the pic). Naturally I haven't saved them to put under the tree, and they are fab!
And then, my mother-in-law was asking what she could get me as a belated birthday present. Naturally I said a new pair of Inov-8 Roclite 290s! This post is brought to you by Inov-8* 😜
What have you asked Santa for? (or your mother-in-law)
Sometimes we don't feel like putting a whole post up but just want to share something small, so this is a great place for doing that during the week. Please join in the discussion! If you're new or a lurker this is a great place to say a little hi without the pressure of a full post.
Have a great week!

Very smart! Father Christmas aka my dogs have given me some new headphones for Christmas, but I am being good and not looking at them until Christmas Day. 😲 Running has been hit and miss for me, ran Thursday and got soaked, just couldn’t face the deluge we had on Sunday morning, so guiltily chickened out, fingers crossed for Wednesday and my up the time long run.
Bloody hell Roseabi, bet you weren't laughing at the time 😳, hope you're on the mend!
I am hoping for Aftershock Air headphones but they may be out of my son's budget so if Santa doesn't bring them I'll be shopping online Christmas morning 😂
Your one tough lady.Hope the healing going well Abi.⭐️👏👏❤️
Xmas , I am smiling , not quite humbug 🤔🙈joking, OH has just won a huge hamper,🤔🙈, getting packed to go off to family, good thing, the family can do the eating and I will attempt to progress my consolidation and building programme. Not at all boring, hope Santa remembers my six pack.🤔🤣
Love your shoes.Think I had the best Mother in law ever.Pleased for you.
Hi Roseabi, mum is getting me some barefoot shoes, so I can see how I get on with them. I saw the concept mentioned in a book called 'Born to run' by Christopher McDougall. It's well worth a read if you haven't heard of it. I'll post a report on here once I've given them a fair go.
My sister's getting me some anti-blister socks and my friend Carole's getting me some nice warm running gloves, so I'll be well catered for by Santa!
Which sort of barefoot shoes are you getting? I have some Vivobarefoot Stealth IIs, which I really like, but not for running unfortunately. I have found they put way too much strain on my calves/Achilleses. Yes I have read Born to Run, I think it's fascinating! But barefoot running is not for me 😊😊😊
They’re from a company called Saguaro. My sports physio said I should take it very gently and see how I get on. That’s exactly what I’ll be doing🙂👍 I can’t wear the ones with individual toe holes as the second and third toe on each of my feet are partially webbed together by skin😳 That came in handy a few years ago when I broke the bones in my left middle toe- I had a ready made splint!😊 It heeled without any problems🙂 There’s a silver lining to every cloud ⛅️ if you look hard enough☺️
That book is so inspirational David! I made the Iskiate drink frogspawn drink. Not sure if it made any difference but it was nicer than gels and the usually energy drinks. Good luck with the barefoot shoes 👍
Thanks TailChaser. I’m sure they’ll be a completely different experience. I thought I’d keep a diary of my experiences so it’ll be a true account of how they feel at the time, not just some thoughts once I’m used to them🙂👍

I have done a few runs in my spikes now, a couple of parkruns and a track session. As they have zero drop and are minimal they may be similar - I feel I’m not wearing much on my feet and my left calf complains for a day or so. I would suggest building up very slowly to adapt to them, as I am attempting to do with my spikes but not very well. I need less than 5k really so will try doing a couple of k in them after normal trainer runs I think. Have fun! Ps great book too!
Oh you look well set for 2020 roseabi. I asked Santa for some Aftershokz titanium bone conduction earphones and I think Santa’s helpers have been working on it. Also a new buff for skiing with fleece as well as microfibre. Hoping it’s not so cold in Colorado this season though. Must go and get the trails I was promised for my birthday in October, my fault.
Sorry about you accident, you just wish you could turn the clock back don’t you?
Oh Abi, hope your chin is not too sore!that's not a nice part of your body to hit the ground with .... 😮xx
Mr BBR is obviously feeling sorry for me watching me limping around the house these last few months...he has suggested getting me a new Garmin for Xmas! (I have an old second hand one which is awful to sync, which he has always asked why I bother with it😐)
So, of course I said yes, please...but at the moment running feels like a long way off.
I hit my knee too, that is more sore than the chin, but prettier because I was wearing my dreaded Capris which gave my knees some protection - thank goodness!
New Garmin, fabulous! Hope you feel up to running again really soon xxx
Sorry about the silence. I've just been busy, but I've kept running. Inov-8s will be under our tree this year as well. I got a pair of spiked Mudclaws last year, that have been really good. So hubby is getting a pair of Arcticclaws from me.
I never got around to telling you all, but I did a 10K race back in October. Despite being fairly slow, I was handed a pair of On running shoes when I crossed the finish line. They were a perfect fit, so I can't wait to try them in the spring.
It doesn't look like we're getting a white Christmas, so I'm making the most out of it, and getting some speed. I've even done my first winter intervals, and they went really well.
I was thrilled. We usually get buns and a beanie at this event. My shoes alone cost more than our combined entrance fees - and hubby got a pair as well. It was an extremely wet day, so I suspect that they realized that people didn't want to hang around for the usual prize raffle. What was especially fun about the event was that Henrik Ingebrigtsen started the race, and being a small local event, he was very approachable. If we'd arrived earlier, we could have taken selfies with him.
Ouch! Bet that hurt 😩 Hopefully you didn’t lose any teeth 😱 Love the shoes!
I’ve not asked for any specific running stuff as I think I’ve probably got as much as I need 🙄 but I’ll still be delighted to unwrap any present and see a running related item!
Running wise I’m still on track with my HM training but my biggest challenge will be getting the long runs in over Christmas with various family coming and going, as I’m sure others will have the same dilemma. I don’t think saying “I’m just popping out to get more wrapping paper” is going to sit well if I’m not back for a couple of hours 🏃♀️😮🤔
I guess we could say we’re going to run to the shops as it’s “greener” 😂...........
.... and then got a bit lost on the way...... and then ....surprise surprise we met a friend we hadn’t seen for ages...... blah blah ... mmmmnnnn 🤔 this might work 😉🏃♀️
Hope you’re on the mend roseabi, that wasn’t fun 🤕
I think shoes must be a big Christmas listie thing - they never really come off because you always need a new pair!! My trail shoes are (were!) that colour. They’re going to be brilliant roseabi!
I have asked Santa for a parkrun bottle with my barcode on it as it’s frivolous and something I’d never buy myself but it will also help parkrun out a little bit.
I bought myself one of those PR bottles too TC. It’s ace. I took it to my choir concert yesterday in fact, and one of my running choir member friends was looking enviously at it. All the non-running ones didn’t look quite so excited by it! 😅
Very nice idea that! 😊. Perhaps the head version - my chest torch suffers a bit from rotation whereas head normally stays straight? I guess they can be mounted in various locations? Have fun!
We have a GoPro, although I haven't used it for runs just on the bike. I find that I got better videos with it on my helmet as opposed to my handlebars, because a lot more of the scenery was visible that way.
Hope you’re on the mend roseabi. You’re lucky you didn’t knock your choppers out.😳😩 Hope you’re no longer in pain. 🤞
I’m hopefully going to be another Aftershokz recipient for 🎄 Santa has been alerted and he’s usually very good like that. 😀🤞🎅
This week is going to be a bit hit and miss HM training-wise. Choir concerts, relative visiting, last minute shopping in actual shops (😩), but I’m hoping to get a 12k run in on Thursday. I did a 5.5k muddy trail run this morning. My Garmin told me my average HR was 66! Now I know mine is always low, but ....... 🤣
Nice shoes ! 😃 I've got some innov8 mudclaws which I find really good in thick mud!
Hope you are recovering well roseabi what a thing to happen😕
I'm having a gentle ish running week this week and a slog and sparkle run on the 22nd round ventnor (glitzy sparkle gear essential ; have found a very gold spangled t-shirt !) Also fancy dress Xmas parkrun too! Should be a fun weekend 😊
Ouch! And hope you`re on the mend Abi. Nice shoes!
I realised I still didn`t have a `proper` technical/hitech running top (I’m a cheapskate and have just gone with all my race freebie shirts so far) so it’s a real bigboy/runner’s top for me hopefully.
I’ve fallen victim to a pre-Xmas fug at the mo (no runs for a week) so will just go with it and be a lazy so-and-so until late Dec! I’ve convinced myself my legs need some rest time before next year’s fun and games.
Oh no! Take care roseabi - I hope you mend well. The new shoes should help you feel better I hope. How do they inov8’s wear? I thought the soles lasted for ages with special compounds? They look great - I wonder if they would be wide enough for me 🤔
My current Roclite 290s have been wearing well, although I haven't had them a huuuuuuge amount of time. I have done an ultramarathon and marathon in them though, with no signs of wear whatsoever 😊
They are very wide in the toe boxes, especially the Roadclaws, which is why I bought them. But i don't think I'd describe them as wide-fitting overall.
Sounds good - I have only used New Balance so far (mix of road, trail and spikes) and love them. I have a pair of cheap Karrimor trail shoes also which I use for real muddy runs and don’t care how bad they look after😁and they are ok too. But I would like to try some inov8’s as they do look good and a wide toe box would be good, as that is what I like about the NBs and their comfort out the box. I’ll have to try some on next time I’m in a decent running store - thanks!
Lidl had running shoes in earlier this year but they didn’t look as nice this time as previously They didnt have my size either. Running and Lidl are very popular in my neck of the woods so getting my size is nigh on impossible unless I get there at 8.00 am. My niece can get the whole range where she lives though so hopefully next time they’re on sale I can grab me a pair
Aaargg weekly chat rant...so to combine with calf injuries...as soon as I get back into my stride...bit hit of man flu..not the normal man flu...when you can get up out of bed and munch on a steak....
Even went to work with my pants on backwards and my tie tucked into my shirt....
Just shows how black is so slimming!! 😂How’s the chin? Falling is a big fear I Probably need it to happen so I can see it’s survivable without a major trauma!!
I’ve asked for trail shoes and a fluid pack (from all the advice on here). And some perfume as occasional I don’t just run!!
Ha, that is true! It's healing up OK, thank you xx
I have been doing a lot of thinking about how to make falling better, and may put up a post about it at some point. I did actually share my thoughts with someone on Strength & Flex the other day:
Just carrying on with the plan. I have adapted this year as I really want to break 2hours. I have noticed that after a couple of weeks of consistent running my pace has improved steadily and even on the long run day when I can run at wehatever feels confortable I am naturally running at a quicker pace.
Humming that tune ... “ don’t call me Scarface, my name is Capone, C A P O N E dum dum dum dum. Brilliant stuff. I’ll be singing it all day now Sorry to hear you mashed your chops Good news about your teef. I can’t open things with my teeth now. Sigh 😔. I got a split lip which is now scarred, and a fine scar on my chin The later wrist fracture is ok now. We really should take more care 😁. I was wary for ages about trying to run fast. I still am. I run alongside grass so I have a softer landing if I tip up. Mind you, you with your new road claws should have better grip 👍😃. They are very beautiful. I was hanging my nose over the blue trimmed ones last Christmas. We went for a drive just after crimble, stopped for coffee and cake, and found to my husband’s surprise it was actually a running shop 😎🤷♀️ There was no clue from the outside 😁. I hope have some good runs in em 💪👍😃🏃♀️
Speaking of cake, I was out last night in a vegan establishment with my niece and co, and I had a slice of chocolate tart. My goodness me, it was gert lush Off to run it off now 🏃♀️ Got to collect a heavy parcel from Next so won’t be running back home 😃.
Erm, not run for over a week I don’t think. Seems that long My toe is now good to go so I plan to run shop today or bust.
All this talk of posh headphones reminds me ... I ordered my free gift of a pair of Bluetooth ones from WW yesterday, as I’m a good girl I am 😇. These won’t be posh I don’t suppose 😁
I've asked for cycling stuff for Christmas this year - need some proper lights for my night ride and some overshoes to try to keep my feet warmer and dryer! But I do need new running shoes - Garmin gave me a badge last week for wearing mine out - who knew they were worn out 😂? I've had them a year, but only 8 months of running. Anyway, my foot is definitely starting to hurt at the moment, so I guess it's even more important I have proper cushioning. As soon as I can find a minute which coincides with some energy, I'm off to the running shop as I imagine Santa has closed his list 😍. Going to skip my next speed run and give my foot a bit of a rest; it's not at serious pain stage but I do think there's something aggravated which needs some time to calm down. Shame, as all was going well. Hey ho!
That would be a nice thought! It's definitely not got as far as 'I've done some serious damage' yet which is the main thing. It feels more like it did at the very end of the healing process, so I'm hoping it's soft tissue aggravation rather than bone stress. Far better to be hyper cautious at this stage I think - the speed run seems non-essential right now, no great loss.
Quick question. Do the Roadclaws fit the same as the Roclite's? The Roclite's are the only trail shoes I've found so far that fit my feet. If the Roadclaws are the same shape I might try them for tarmac.
I think the Roadclaws are a better fit than the Roclites. The toe box is wider and the heel fits a little bit more snugly. They also have more cushioning on the tongues which I find helpful for getting them laced up right, and they have the heel-lock eyelet, which the Roclites do not.
The Roclites are made a bit more snug fitting - I saw a lot of warnings to go up half a size when I was researching them 😊
NB they are Roadclaw 275 V2. They have an 8mm drop - Roclites are 4mm.
The mens Roclites seem a bit different. Mine have the heel lock eyelet and round cord laces. They are definitely wider at the toe because that's what I need to fit. They fit like slippers but are not really suited to winter running. (For me anyway).
I might look at the x-talon 200 for the serious muddy stuff. Actually today waders would have been best.
