Very excited

After running for two years without music I thought I would give it a try to see if it helps with pace and if it makes more routine runs more interesting. Not for trail runs but for local road ones round town, where I’ve done the same route a million times. Mr IDS bought me some Aftershokz Titanium Mini bone conductor wireless headphones for Christmas. Mini for smaller heads. I’m just charging them, haven’t tried them yet but they’re incredibly light and comfortable. They happily fit under my hair, and you can’t see they’re on as my hair is long. Unfortunately Apple removed my purchased music downloaded from CDs, long since, so replacing it is going to be expensive and will have to be done over time. I don’t want to pay over £9 a month for subscription. I already have Kaleo, Clapton, the Eagles, some ABBA (blush) and a freebie U2 album. Oh and Fleetwood Mac Rumours. All my more recent stuff, except Kaleo (Icelandic band, if you haven’t heard them, give them a try, they are brilliant), is gone.

Picture shows them charging. Am jumping up and down with excitement! Am 5 years old! Can’t wait to try out my new toy. I’m such a geek 😂

Good luck with those, young Flick. I tried running with music again a few months ago and the earphones drove me nuts. x

in reply to MikeJones68

These don’t go in your ears, they sit on your cheekbones - I literally can’t feel they are there x

ABBA are AWESOME!!!!!!!

in reply to roseabi

I didn’t listen when they were current. Really enjoy them now

I so did not know you thought they were ???? I though it was just me..

I LOVE ABBA.... I know the pace for most of their songs... :)

No wonder we are friends? xxx

Aftershokz are great. I love mine (bought for safe cycling with voice navigation from my phone, but I use them for running too cos they're so comfy). Enjoy! I think you're sounding a bit better 😍

in reply to linda9389

Great. I’m looking forward to trying them out.

Yes I do feel better, though my chest under my breastbone still rasps when I get out in the cold. Tbh I think the antibiotics are making me more ill than the infection. I wake up faint and feeling sick. 4 more days of them x

Poor you 😥 4 days and counting!

I find probiotic yogurt really helps when on antibiotics, stops me from feeling sick, may be worth a go if you don’t already

in reply to Setters

Can’t, I’m vegan. I was thinking of looking into whether any of the vegan yogourts are pro biotic

Setters profile image
SettersHalf Marathon in reply to

Didn’t think of that ☹️

in reply to Setters

Only been vegan for two or so years, after being vegetarian since the 70s, so it’s still a learning curve ❤️😊

This isn't the one I was thinking of but it's useful/interesting too 👍🏻

I eat bananas daily, avocados almost daily and kiwi fruit quite often. Thanks for this Jo x

I read somewhere about making your own vegan prebiotics... I'll see if I can find it. I eat a lot of sauerkraut to help the gut 👍🏻

in reply to GoGo_JoJo

I’m not fond of sauerkraut. Mic has a German mother so was brought up with it.

GoGo_JoJo profile image

I love the stuff, I can eat it every day. My paternal grandfather was apparently renowned for his sauerkraut... unfortunately he was long gone before I came around.

Any fermented foods have a similar benefit.

A new toy! Lovely. I got some Aftershokz at a good price a while back. I bought them especially for dark early morning runs, as I felt safer being able to hear what is going on around me whilst still being able to listen to music.

I absolutely have to have music or a good podcast on long runs/ town centre runs, but often go without when doing woodland runs, as I love to hear the birds. There's a case for both, I'd say. Love music on long runs though – I create playlists of all my favourite songs, and sometimes even manage to sing along!

Hope you are feeling much better now, dear Flick.

Ah, yes, these were reduced by quite a lot on Amazon. I’m happy without music and, like you, wouldn’t use them on off road runs, but I want to see how I take to them.

I’m on my way to being better. The antibiotics are making me ill in a different way though. I have four more days of them. I SHALL be running on Sunday to start Marcothon but will be going very slowly till I see how it affects me. Thank you for caring dearest Sadie xxx

Bleuch – antibiotics often make me feel a bit icky, but needs must sometimes. xxx

Well quite, and I’m taking the whole ten days to be on the safe sidexxx

I have these mini headphones, same colour too Flick. I love them and they help me with running as I love to listen to upbeat tunes. Join Spotify it’s free and you can make up your own music playlists. Good luck 😀😀🏃🏽‍♀️🏃🏽‍♀️

in reply to Agelesslass

Can you download songs on Spotify? I did listen to it for a while but got fed up with the ads. I don’t know if 4g on Bluetooth will cope with streaming - though I guess it should xx

Agelesslass profile image
AgelesslassMetric Marathon in reply to

Yes you can. The adds are every thirty minutes but don’t last long. I’ve created some of my own playlists, I love it. You’ll be fine with 4g Bluetooth, that’s what I’ve got. You can download all music. Try searching for the run mummy run playlist, great tunes on this for running 👍👍

in reply to Agelesslass

THANK you!!!! Just going to download the app 😊❤️

in reply to Agelesslass

Have now rejoined Spotify and made a monster playlist that will last a week! X

It’s like magic! The only problem is getting it paired each use. My iPhone XS is terrible with pairing. Same with my running watch x

Love aftershokz, I’ve got wired ones, - I’ve still got an iPod.....when my iPods die I will move to Bluetooth ones.....and same as you, won’t be using apple anymore........and I love Kaleo! Great band......

Happy listening and running, you’ll love those aftershokz I’m sure!

Mx

I won’t not use Apple , I’m pretty tied into their eco system with a Mac and an iPhone, but I’m annoyed they won’t allow my paid for music on iplayer now.

I’m glad someone else likes Kaleo; brilliant musicians.

I’m eagerly waiting for Mr IDS to take the dogs out so I can pair the Aftershokz with my phone and experiment. He tends to witter when he’s here and I need to concentrate, bless him! X

I await your review.

I want to upgrade my super comfy no fuss £10 Sony wired earbuds to Bluetooth but I just can't get on with the weight of the ones I've tried.

Been looking at aftershockz but not sure on sound quality and it's a lot of money if I don't like them. Seen lots of bad reviews about their customer service too so didn't want to risk trying to send them back of I don't get on with them.

in reply to Bike_and_Run

Mine were from Amazon and they’re pretty good about returns . I haven’t run with mine yet but they sound great to me (and I’m a fussy ex Linn sondek WiFi person). I’ve see reviews say the sound isn’t as good as earbuds, but I think it’s pretty good, just slightly down on bass but not a game changer - and I would rather be safe when running, and these let you hear everything around you and even hold a conversation. The functions are really easy to operate too and very accessible and obvious when your wearing the headphones. I’m really pleased 😀

Oh, and they weigh nothing. You barely feel them

These sound interesting, I shall look forward to your initial review soon! Glad you're feeling better and I sympathise about the antibiotics - I feel worse (also in a different way) when I'm on them. Have you got some probiotics to take to help replace the good bacteria?

in reply to Slinkymalinki

I replied to bike and run higher up the thread with my initial experience. Absolutely brilliant. I’ve just spent ages compiling a Spotify playlist that’s so long I’m never going to get through it 😂😂😂

Slinkymalinki profile image
Slinkymalinki in reply to

Oh, I meant when you go out for your first run with them. Mine are not Bluetooth and not very comfy so I'm interested in the comfort aspect (although I usually run naked😉!)

in reply to Slinkymalinki

I usually run naked too! I can pretty much say they're comfortable. I've tried jiggling around and tossing my head and jogging on the spot and they don't shift. I will let you know Sunday how they are on an actual run x

Great music choice Flick! Nothing wrong with

a bit of ABBA! I like the sound of Kaleo - I’m partial to a bit of Swap myself (Anglo-Swedish); There’s a lot of music out there!!

in reply to Oldgirlruns

Abba is very motivating! Give Kaleo a go, though they are not like ABBA x

Ohhh you talked me into looking at these on Amazon and have just bought a pair for £55! Thank you FlickM3 was thinking about treating myself for Christmas and would have paid more if I hadn’t seen your timely post 😁

Great. Though I hope you won’t beat me up if you don’t like them! 😂 I did a lot of research online, including customer reviews, before deciding on them.

You are totally responsible 😂 have been looking at them for ages, but managed to talk myself out of them as they were expensive, but at the price I got them...........

Exactly! And in the unlikely event you don’t like them, Amazon will refund x

I’ve been saving up fitness points at WW to get a pair of wireless earphones. Turns out my niece got the last pair 🙄 🙈

Oh well back to the ones I cadged from another niece 🙂. One day ......

Running with music 💪 is a blast 😁 I turn it off when running main roads etc. Too dangerous On the trails is such fun with your fave tunes you Just have to download “Footloose💪”. It’s the law 💪👍😃🏃‍♀️. Throw some shapes Yeeeeeeeeha 🙂

in reply to misswobble

That’s the point of the bone conductor headphones, they sit in front of your ears not in them, so you can hear everything going on around you, there is nothing to block your ears. They are the only ones confined by the British Athletic Association because they are safe even in heavy traffic. You can even hold a conversation with music playing, just as you can with a sound system in your home. You can hear traffic, people coming up behind you etc. I will never listen to music on trails. I love being connected to nature and hearing birdsong, streams rushing downhill, buzzards crying 😊❤️

Ooo they’re nice Flick! Report back as I’m hoping for some of those for 🎄 too!

And please don’t blush at Abba. My fave. I used to be word perfect on all their songs (and still am on lots!) 😅😅

in reply to cheekychipmunks

I shall write a full report once I’ve run with them, but wearing them listening to music round the house, I’m impressed so far. People say they are lacking in bass, but I haven’t found that. Most people are too hooked on bass.

Am I guessing that these are not being wrapped up for Christmas Day Flick? That means mr IDS is going to have to surprise you with something else.

in reply to Dexy5

😂😂😂 no not wrapped up. He’s a miserable bah humbug bugger who would rather give presents any time but Christmas Day, so I think that’s my lot!
