So I have just come back from running the first run of week 2 of my half marathon training, it was grey and drizzly and I kept on getting stitches even though I was going at a slow easy pace. They eventually calmed down and managed to finished my run strong which I am pleased about.
But it took me an hour to motivate myself to actually get out of the door and just run! And it wasn't even a very big run it was just 3.2K (2 miles) but for some reason I just didn't want to run today. But when I was actually finally running, I was really enjoying it and I felt like I could run forever! I didn't even care that it was raining! Go figure!

Yes I do think that it was due to being out of routine today so I had to do my run in the afternoon and not usually first thing in the morning. I find it really difficult doing my runs halfway through the day in terms of motivation and I'm not so keen on the idea of running in the evenings either. Running in the morning just sets me up for the day. But I am proud of myself for eventually going out and getting today's run done!
Gremlins, faffage - they get us all sometimes, especially when the weather isn’t behaving. You still got out and when you’d completed your run, you understood why you made the effort. Extra kudos for doing so out of your regular routine. 👍Bottle that feeling! 👊
I fiffed and faffed yesterday morning as it was intervals day. 😩 But I went out and ran 5k with some intervals in the middle. I’m still buzzing now. Running is epic. 👏👏👏
Yeah is definitely harder to motivate myself to run during the winter because it's cold, wet and dark! The gremlins make more of an appearance in winter I find! Go you on beating those gremlins and going on a run too! Yes running is brilliant! 😃
Yeah I find the same thing! I really enjoyed my run despite not wanting to go out and do it! But I definitely think I ran it a bit dehydrated though, won't be making that mistake again...
Yes so true! I had to tell myself that I would get back sooner if just went for it and then I eventually did it! I tend to be an over-thinker anyway so that probably came into play a bit too! Sometimes the best advice is to just run
The runs I get excited about because the weather is great or because I have half-baked plans for a PB or super-long run often disappoint a bit; the ones where I set off under grey skies and with a sense of foreboding often surprise. Never works out how I hope or plan so I`ve started to just go out and try not to overthink it beforehand. Put your kit on even if you don`t plan going out straight away. I find that helps me to get my game-face on and finally out through the door.
