Any excuse for new shoes!

I noticed at the beginning of my last half marathon (the bit between the entry shut off and the actual start where everyone just stands about in the pen doing the occasional on-the-spot jog and half hearted calf stretch) that I could see my toe poking through my right trainer.

So I got these Cloudflyers on the cheap (old stock, funny colour) and gave them a bit of a test run today! Forgot to charge the Garmin, but it wasn't a very exciting or eventful run so I suppose I don't need a record of it.

To be honest they're more pink than I'd like - thought they were orange when I bought them! - but they were a bargain, so they'll do.

NEW SHOOOOOOOES hooray!

Nice! Are they different than your last pair? If so how do you like them?

They're no different at all 😁 Well, aside from the colour. If it ain't broke, and all that! I like Cloudflyers, they're comfy but still relatively minimal.

Shoe loyalty runs deep. I just run with Saucs these days and just love my Breakthru pair

Nice! I always end up looking at other people’s shoes, and note how clean/new they are compared to my grubby old dog eared pair, then end up wondering where they run to have got the necessary training in......🤔.......or have they done the worst thing possible and put them in the washing machine......😱.........I also can’t help myself saying ‘nice shoes’ if some are pretty bright, or a colour/ pattern I haven’t seen before........it’s important isn’t it?😂🏃‍♀️👍

I love to see people's shoes too. I look for shoe twins obsessively when I'm doing an event. I often find a shoe sister, but twins are harder to come by.

Oh I love them! Never seen that colourway before. I run in Cloudflyers, on my 4th pair. Never ever seen them discounted before though! Help a gal out, where do you find discounted Cloudflyers, Squeaks? x

I have internet searches set up all over, because I just can't bring myself to pay full price 🤣These ones came from a local place but I've got end of season flyers online from Run and Ride before, they were £80 which is pretty decent. I take them in a 7.5, which is slightly larger than the average, so I sometimes get lucky with my big ol feet! These grey/coral ones didn't come with the wee ownership card but I think I can do without that. I just want comfy feet 😁

Thanks Sqkr. At full price, they are a bit eyewateringly expensive! I need to keep my eyes open for a bargain more. Sadly I am very common (in shoe size 😂) at 6.5, so rarely see sale shoes in my size pffffft! I wish you many happy runs in those beauties! x

Cloudflyers are brilliant. I have two pairs. They did me proud for Oxford half: new shoes and not a rub, blister or black toenail. You might need a hoof pick if you run off road though! X

Heh, they're my third pair! I'm well accustomed to picking my feet with a stick 😁

in reply toSqkr

Haha yes! I misread your post and thought you had only just started using them. I’ll shut up now 😂😂😂 I like my Cloudsurfers too - different enough to give my legs a slight change

I do keep wondering about trying the other sorts, I fancied a shot on the Cloudaces but then my inner voice says 'or....you could just get another pair of the ones you already know you like'. 🤔 It's a difficult decision!

in reply toSqkr

I ve tried Clouds, Cloudflow and Cloudswift. Didn’t like them. I have the Cloudventure Peak for off road.

Sadie-runs and I have the identical two pairs, though I suspect hers are a dainty smaller size than mine!

They look very "bouncy" - are they?

Sqkr profile image
SqkrHalf Marathon in reply tobackintime

Not bouncy so much, just sort of light and easy to run in. I don't like a puffy or heavy shoe so they work well for me without being too flat.

Very nice 😃👍🏃‍♀️ I like that colour as it goes well with other colours.

My shoes all have holes in the top 😁 Dorsiflexion or summink

Sqkr profile image

*Googles dorsiflexion* Yes! Exactly that. I think I have quite pronounced dorsiflexion, and flexed right out of my shoe 🤣 I think that's what makes my toenails prone to falling off too!

That too 😁🙈☹️

I've put over 1000km on the clock of my second pair of Asics already. Time for a new pair soon! I'll stay with Asics for now as I've never had a single blister or problem at all - so they do seem to suit my type of foot/gait/pronation/whatever - if it ain't broke don't fix it ;-)

Apparently ‘toe breaking through shoe’ is a common phenomenon, and our local running shop provides a service of having a patch sewn inside the shoe to reinforce the area.

It’s always nice to get a new pair though

Sqkr profile image

Oh absolutely, I'll stitch a wee patch on the old pair for sure. They're not going anywhere! I'm quite attached to them, and I've probably only done about 500k in them—and I don't care what they say, that's not enough for retirement! Good to get another pair on the go though.

I love my Kinvara 5’s but the uppers are like paper ☹️ My nikes seem to last much longer before yielding
