And it was tougher than the actual half 😳 I’ve rested for a week and had expected to prance off and do a nippy 5k. Hahaha! Best laid plans and all that. I’m obviously still tired. I managed 2.25k and gave up. The knee hurt till I got going too. So my plan is another day or two of rest, ease back in gently, maybe three days a week for a week or two. I’m glad I did it though. And I can’t believe how much colder it’s got than last time I ran. Btw the bit that says running index, that’s my VO2 MAX. 41 ... 41!!! That’s leapt up three points since the race.
Ive got plans too. I’ve entered the London Winter Run, which is 10k round the City of London in February, so I start training for that in December. I finish that and have three months (bar a short break) to train for Oxford Town & Gown 10k in May. Then four months to train for Blenheim half at the end of September. I don’t know if my bank balance will stand entering any more races next year, but I would quite like to do a 10 miler if there is one fairly local and not too expensive.
OMG and you can customise the bling and the route looks fun. but oh the entry fee is steep although cheaper if 5 people enter. Maybe just need to get 4 other VRB / RB...
She is gorgeous, I had it in my head that lurchers were a bit "fluffier" - she really looks like my big greyhound (except he's male and black, but you know what I mean :D)
Yay Flick! So many races to look forward to! 🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♀️👊
Sorry you were in pain on your run, but hey you’ve recently run a heck of a long way and your body is simply saying “Jeez mother, give me a break!” Don’t worry, you’ll soon be back firing on all cylinders. 👊
Is that your 🐕? He/she is gorgeous and no doubt a lot quicker than my little Lab! 🐕🐕🐕
Lovely dog Flick, I know he loves running as well.
Good for you on restarting your running with a short 2.25K test run.
Well done to you on entering the London Winter Run 10K in February, that will take a bit of travelling to get there.
Next the Oxford 10K in May, then the Blenheim Half in September, wow, that is really good planning ahead.
10 miles, well you could enter for the Great South Run, that was yesterday, if you do, you will meet many people who are on this forum like Dexy5, Cheekychipmunks, UpTheStanley, they all ran the GSR just yesterday, as for me, I'll keep to parkruns,
I think you mentioned somewhere that you don't like parkruns, or was that someone else😁anyway, enjoy the rest of the day, nice and relaxing. 🏃🏾😊👍
Great to know you are back in the road again. Like you, I didn't appreciate how much a HM takes out of you. My head tells me to run and my body says "ah, nooo"
The four legged furry looks beautiful. I hear they can be a bit headstrong once they get an idea about something.
Lurcher can be difficult off lead, though Isha is pretty good mostly. They make up for the waywardness by being gentle and affectionate in a laid back way
I struggled with my runs after too Flick. My pace went up dramatically but I cannot stay in a lower zone than 3 so I need to start training again soon. Your runs sound amazing. I have the London half next year so I'm hoping I get a training plan like yours. But I want to improve my pace too so I need to sort my max heartrate first. Do rest a little too but enjoy being back out and free of a plan if you can be! Xx
Thank you lovely. I’m going to stick to three runs a week for a little while! I’m glad it’s not just me. I was beginning to think I was past it! No plan till December. That will be Marcothon month. The plan is only three days a week, so I will be filling in the gaps with free form runs to make it up to the required run every day xx
I quite like the idea of marcothon month as a way to get enthused again. But I am thinking I might run a marathon around Blenheim before I lose all the fitness. X
Marcothon is fabulous. I loved it last year and lost loads of weight (instead of putting it on as I did with half marathon training). It’s worth it just for the banter in colloquial Scots from the Scots doing it. And the stories of people doing their daily runs round airports when on business trips, or running round the block umpteen times between checking on the kids. Loads of photos and stories. I found it totally motivating. Xx
You can do it in whatever time you like. I assume the prizes are for the elite athletes. My daughter did it two years ago and wasn’t under an hour. I watched the elites come in way ahead of everyone else, mostly running for their colleges. I think the prizes for that were given our while everyone else was still running. Put it this way, I certainly won’t be getting round in an hour!
Oh right well I’m tempted then definitely. Something to aim for as I’m struggling to motivate myself lately. Since I pushed myself ( and enjoyed it) to run to 21k, I seem to have lost my mojo. I ran that on aug 26 and since then I’ve run 12 times in the last 8 weeks. I usually run 3 times a week sometimes 4 but just can’t summon any enthusiasm. I know it’s coincided with returning to work but still annoying.
I haven’t lost my mojo but I’m definitely tired after the half. It’s a big distance. People in their twenties on other running groups have been saying they’re tired and lost enthusiasm after running a half , and we aren’t in our twenties! Your mind is obviously listening to your body. Mine is like an over enthusiastic flea and still leaping around wanting to do it again. You are obviously wiser than I!
Just looked at staying overnight in Oxford before the Town and gown. I’ll be giving that a miss I reckon. I suppose it’s Bank holiday weekend but it would end up as over £100 including travel and entry fee. Bit much for me ☹️
That’s a shame. You would be welcome to stay with us and take the bus into Oxford in the morning. If you book rail fare well in advance, you can get some really cheap fares as well
Yes, that was in my response to someone else’s thread. I have all of this month and the whole of November to do that. Then December training starts three days a week and it’s also Marcothon run every day in December, which is huge fun!
I signed up for the London winter run with my partner, brother and sister in law. I’m really looking forward to it!
It’s really good to have plans 😃
Take it easy on that knee for now. I’m just getting back to running after injuring my ankle in the middle of September and stupidly kept on testing it and causing more damage. Good luck with your training
Thank you. Hopefully see you there in February. Lots of us seem to be going.
I did the self same with the knee in spring. Injured (not running related) mid February. Could hardly walk at one stage and very painful. So what do I do? A 15k charity run along the very rough and potholey, root riddled, narrow Thames Path from Abingdon to Oxford. Result: one cancelled 10k race, one cancelled half marathon and two months hardly running. Knee was brilliant during the summer, ran just under 17k and it was fine. Knocked it in September with the result the HM stuffed it up again 🤨☹️😳
I've just signed up for the London Winter Run 10K. Nice to know others on here are booked on too. Very last minute decision on my part, but I am enjoying the 10K distance so why not just do it! And the medal looks awesome hey?!
