I'm upset he didn't ask me to be one of his pacers 😂

Please don't be. There's always next time.

I was upset they didn't get me to fire the Starting Pistol.

However, seeing that I'm currently in a death fight with a very bad head cold I now understand.

They probably realised my Marksmanship is a bit compromised.

Fair enough -after all, EK wanted a Record, not an Obituary 🤔

😁

Perhaps a pacemaker for 100 metres.

Even then I'd probably struggle...he'd have to wait for my warm up and then the toxic 10...lol

13mph the whole way... Amazing!

He clearly ignored 'slow and steady', as well as walking and refreshment breaks.

True lol

I don't think that was conversational pace mind...not good for his long run : )

in reply to backintime

No I don't think it was, I wonder would it have been harder without the lasers..

It's an amazing feat non the less.

Tomorrow I will try to run at 13mph on my treadmill (if it goes that fast) to see how long i can do it for 🏃‍♂️

There's a YouTube clip of people trying to do it in the gym. One of them being personal trainer. They couldn't. They just could not last more than seconds.....

in reply to mrrun

I'd say it will be hard enough.

Faster than my average bike rides! And far, far more elegant to watch too 😀

Not only that. Look how relaxed he is!?

linda9389 profile image

Not to mention just how bouncy he looked after 26.2 miles! Amazing man.

To keep up that pace for 26 miles on a bike would be fantastic, you would need a racer.

21km/h? I think that's doable if there aren't too many traffic lights or junctions! Or have I got my maths wrong here ... I usually manage 30km in about an hour and a half on my local rides on my sturdy old hybrid 😀

Crazy fast. There's me trying to do park run with sub 4 min kms (and failing) and he does sub 3 mins at marathon distance. That really is awesome.

I once managed to come close to 4min something, but only once and only for 1km. The rest of the day l spent recuperating and gasping for air with multi colour display flashing before my eyes.

Congratulations to Kipchoge, many people would find it hard to run 1 Kilometre in 2.50, let alone 42.

Hard? Impossible, mate, impossible....😉

Just astounding. I love his relaxed face as he runs. He is a big advocate of smiling when running, apparently. I suppose this is better than grimacing in agony.

I found it very emotional and had tears when he finished. My b/f had tears of laughter, at me crying. Mean.

Good for you. He laughed coz he was scared of what he witnessed. He'd never admit it though. 2.50 per minute for the entire duration? Wow, man, just wow...

What an A-MA-ZING runner he is. I’m so glad he did it! Unbelievable achievement. 👍👊💪🏃‍♂️🎉

mrrun profile image

Absolutely tremendous. Let's not forget those who run just a few minutes 'slower' than him, but still, he has made the history! Incredible! 👊👊👊

Oh yes, those pacers of his are unbelievable runners too. I’d love to see them all up close (fleeting though it might be!) and personal doing their thing. 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️

And doing their thing they do. The footage of the final few hundred meters where you can see the incredible speed, strength and composure, without a hint of exhaustion, looks surreal. I'm just sitting here, trying to absorb it. Privilege to witness it, like any major sports achievement.

I guess, that's how we all felt after W1R1?Hehe..

We sure did - then W4R3. 👊💪

It takes some getting one’s head around 😳. His pace 😳😳😳😳

I spied some famous faces in the photo, some of whom were in action in Doha just days ago Going to see if I can read who they all were.

An amazing feat for sure and testament to human endurance. Awesome 👏👊✊

I'm simply blown away. That pace over 42k is something else. And in the end he talks, is not breathless, is fully composed, relaxed, smiling. I'm blown to bits.

They ran long distances as kids going to school it seems. Mind you so did I 😁

If you keep training though you just get better and better. He’s had a long time to condition It makes you wonder at what the human body is capable of We’ve learned some of that of course. From Couch to racing about the place 😃

I wondered if he started with c25k haha

They all started small. I mean we all could run as children and thought nothing of it. They just never stopped, I suspect 😃

I had tears as he crossed the line, especially as he ran to his wife! And he thanked everyone after in his speech. He is awe inspiring. But he believed he would so he did.... 👊 Amazing. X
