Clairecandothis I was thinking particularly of you but couldn’t tag you in the title panel:

For anyone who is interested - an article on slow HR training:
I've fiddled with my max HR and manage to get more running in zones 2 & 3.
But you do need discipline!
It takes a bit of tinkering, but it’s worth it. I think the discipline came easily because I told myself I had no choice: I wouldn’t do very well with the HM with no training, this was the training plan, so out the door, no excuses each running day five days a week. I’m glad to be coming to the end of it though. A valuable spin off has been that I never procrastinate about running now, and no being picky what time of day I think I can run better in - it’s walk dogs, come back, run
thanks for this, it was interesting
I am wondering what my heart rate is during my runs, it seems reasonable, I can't "feel" it beating during my normal runs, but I am completely ignorant of even my resting heart rate - other than it didn't shock my doctor
My watch monitors mine constantly and, while wrist based hr is slower to respond, it’s pretty accurate overall
I have ordered a 2nd hand polar watch from ebay, cheap as chips, so we'll see how that works - I don't want to get too hung up on heart rate but I would like to know if I'm going to keel over at any point
Polar make the chest straps so he is their thing. Which watch did you get?
VT800 - I was told it's ok, it has a chest strap, but I haven't set it up yet, I need to reinitialise it and I'm not sure how to do it, I need to download some software
I don’t know the vt 800. The v800 was their flagship watch till recently and highly thought of
