Mmmmm. Intervals 😖

After gradually working up to running 21k over the summer and going back to work after 15 months retirement, I felt I’d worn myself out and struggled to run for a couple of weeks. So I decided to redo Jujus Magic Plan and work up to 10k again to see if I could improve my times this time round. I’ve been plodding away and got to week 5 , 4K ✅ and 8k ✅ ....and planned for 5k on Saturday Park Run...then overslept and felt poorly when I eventually woke up so didn’t run again until this morning. I had a bad bout of GERD again this weekend, which is not at all conducive to running, and was still feeling a bit fragile this morning so decided to forego the 5k and do Couchto5k+Speed podcast.

Why I thought that would be any better I don’t know! Shorter?....yes, easier? .....NO!!!!

It was mizzley when I set off but still lukewarmish mizzle so not too bad, and the rain did hold off till I got home at least but that was the best bit. I did my warm up walk, then Laura said “ first we will do a 5 minute gentle warm up at 155 beats per minute “( well that’s faster than my normal speed anyway) so off I went, then it was alternating 1 minute of 165 bpm and 1 min of 150bpm, until 6 fast runs were over, then cool down. It was a struggle as I was not feeling tip-top. I have been struggling to breathe properly just walking upstairs for the last few days so I’m amazed I managed it.

Can’t say I enjoyed it much but I am determined to try to speed up before next year as I want to enter a race or 2 and don’t want to be a straggler. So I am going to try to do intervals at least once a week. Try anyway ☹️😥

Pic is of my flooded drive. Yet another thing to add to my list of “ things I need to get sorted before I re retire” 😩😭

So many tasks, so little time. A retired lady’s work is never done 😁

I love Stepping Stones podcasts. Stamina kicks ass 🏃‍♀️ 😃

I don’t particularly like intervals but I do them as they’re on my plan Did some today in fact. Always relieved when they’re finished 😤

I hope you feel better soon 👍

Once a week? Maybe once every two weeks 🤣. Don't push yourself if you're not tip-top, be kind to yourself 😍

Really good for you LL, intervals are hard, and I can’t imagine doing them feeling under the weather. You’re made of strong stuff! 💪

Oh well done! Especially if you’ve been plagued by acid reflux- poor you!

Rain everywhere I think.

I need to speed up too. There are some races I wouldn’t be able to do because I’m outside the cutoff time. Xx
