I’m working my way through jujus plan again, trying to improve my times from the previous times. Not sure it’s working but I’m still going 🤣. I last ran on Tuesday afternoon and clocked up 8:18 min/km average for my 4K and 8:14 average for today’s 8k so a small improvement I suppose. But boy was it a struggle.
I’m surprised I completed it really as I’m still not sleeping well, and I worked this morning and was busy for once so didn’t get chance to drink more than about a wineglass of water all shift. I left work at 1, drove to my second job and found there wasn’t really much for me to do today so when the boss said “ do you want to come back Monday or Tuesday instead?” “ damn right I do- I can go for a run jnstead😁”. So I came home changed and then realised my watch and phone needed charging. So I put them on fast charge and made a coffee and big glass of water and had a banana. Then after a suitable time off I went.
It was sunny when I first got home and it had got steadily duller as I’d sat and procrastinated but I’m off to Plymouth tomorrow ( road trip with my son) and wanted to get my run in today. On auto pilot I went down onto the Tarka Trail, thinking to myself “ another week or so and it’s the Jewson marathon and HM along here”. And I realised my headphones were sounding a bit weird. Sort of jangly and I remembered that I’d got considerably wet on Tuesday and although I’d remembered to dry out my shoes I’d forgotten to dry my headphones.🙄😥. Think they might have bit the dust, because all my charging everything up was in vain as 10 minutes into the run and I heard” your device is disconnected “ and that was that. So I carried on “sans tunes” which is a rare experience for me. I always find I start counting steps ( 12 steps is .01 of a km) if I have no music. So then I count 120 steps and I know that’s 0.1 ticked off. I have to sing to myself to distract myself from that. There were a lot of wading birds squawking and peewitting at each other as well so it wasn’t a quiet run, especially I could hear my breathing which is another good reason to listen to music. 🙄It was also VERY windy. I foolishly thought as the wind was against me on the way out it would be behind me on the way home but it was basically just blowing in from the River Taw( which leads in from an estuary so right off the sea really). So it was coming diagonally towards me from about 10 o’clock on the way out and it had moved slightly so it was blowing into my right ear all the way back. I came round one corner and it busted so I went off the path and onto the grass verge. Quick look round to make sure no one saw 🙄and carried on.
Anyway I struggled.... that’s all I can say. I’d set off planning to do 8k and I did but it could so easily have been 5, (“ I could do the 8k on Sunday???...””)or even 6 and the last 2 were a battle of wills. Can’t remember what those twins are called but you know the ones? One brother dragged the one along who was nearly collapsing? I was like the knackered one by the finish. 🤣🤣Brownlee!!! That’s it!! Legs all over the place.
Still now I have had a lovely soak in the bath, fell asleep on my bed and woke up surrounded by cats an hour later ( pic is of my Mimi looking particularly cute on my lap) and I’m just about to go to the train station to pick my daughter up for the weekend. And I only have my 5k left to do this week( possibly ParkRun??). And I’m finished work for the week too. Result!!
