Run Report at last

Well I did it! although I had to record the last four miles separately as part as my phone battery died again! and my watch was not charged up enough but I still did over 18miles. Not particularly fast despite pausing for some bathroom breaks and to change my socks although the last four miles average pace was quicker than the 8 miles I did on Bank Holiday Monday yet took me longer! However today was about getting the mileage done rather than speed so happy to have managed 18miles. Think I need to get a separate interval timer as using gymboss, Strava or Runtastic and Spotify is draining the battery despite fully charging the phone before I go out.

Yay! Glad to hear you got your 18miles done! That is such a long distance; I can’t even imagine running that 🙌🙌🙌

Thank you. Doing it by 2 out & 2 back, 1 out & 1 back soon racks up the distance and it's good psychologically. lt doesn't matter how many sets of 1 mile or 2 mile out and back you do. Today I did:

1 out and 1 back = 2miles x 3 - 6miles 2 out and 2 back = 4miles x 2 - 8miles

1 out and 1 back = 2miles x 2 - 4 miles

Total - 18miles

for technical reasons I did the last four miles as a separate recording aka Part 2 of the run but still got the mileage done so happy and relieved lol 😂

That is a neat way to break it into smaller less daunting chunks. If I remember correctly from a previous post of yours, you’re not running the same 1 mile and 2 mile route for each? I’m not a fan of running repeating laps but that “could” make it less intimidating, perhaps. There is still no way I could do it so huge hats off to you and best of luck on your upcoming marathon. I can’t wait to read about it.

That's right although I did repeat one but I was ok as I knew the turn round point. Saw this guy running this morning and said hello then saw him twice again and he said hello again lol. He must have been doing loop repeats. It was a lot cooler today and the last mile it started raining so was refreshing although got strange looks from people with brollies etc but did not care.

Thank you. Feeling exhausted but chuffed. Next and possibly last long run is 20miles day before we go away.

that's so far!! I'm building back up after a quiet August and just back to 5km... I have to remember to be patient with myself.

Exactly that. The training is about distance not times. A friend says it's finish lines not finish times that matter and that is true. Especially with a first Marathon! I hope your run had helped your confidence a little. 18 miles is a real long way! My watch gave up half way on my long run last week too. I only use my phone for music now though as my watch records all my data. X

Yes it has. The only problem is that a watch does not tell me when it is a mile, 2 miles etc. Yes finish lines not finish times. Cut off times I feel do not help get rid of an obsession with speed. I understand about road closures etc but I fear soon that slower runners will be squeezed out of races altogether because they will not be able to finish within the cut off times.

You can set Garmin watches to alert you at any distance interval. Mine lets me know each mile on road runs but b I've set it to 3 miles for trail runs. It treats them as laps.

Only have a Polar m430. Tbh don't use it much as the miles take ages to mount up ie 3.49, 3.50etc.
