Firstly, I want to say a big thank you for all your lovely, supportive replies to my very self-pitying post about my foot on Saturday. You all really helped me get through a very dark day!
I have been icing, resting and doing some wee exercises I found on YouTube that have been helping no end. It is much better today, and I can walk on it fine. I can still feel a little tenderness, but nothing like it was on Saturday. Phew.
I have decided to not run again yet - I want the foot to feel completely normal before attempting anything. In the meantime, I am strength training and this morning going to go for a swim. If I can still feel any tenderness on Thursday then I will make a sports physio appointment.
I am not giving up on my Sept HM dream yet...but I will be sensible. They donβt call me Sadie the Sensible for nothing you know. π
Thank you again for all your kind support and empathy, what a great bunch of people you are. π

You have no idea how happy this has made me! My foot problem has also benefitted from a treadmill run and lots of ice and exercise. Well both make our Sept HMs Iβm sure of it !
Aw, Becky! Thanks love. And I am very pleased to hear your foot issue has improved too. π Take it steady and take care of that foot. Pffft! This running business has us up and down emotionally! xxx
Oh thatβs such a relief Sadie. It sounds like itβs not too serious after all. Good for you doing everything right though. Yep, Sensible Sadie! ππ
Thanks dear Cheeky. π I am still a bit worried it will flare up again but trying to be optimistic. Itβs a good sign that the pain abated quite quickly though, right? Please still keep everything crossed for me though (but not your eyes, that would be silly. π) xxx
Thanks FPF. π I am starting to see light at the end of the tunnel! I will do a wee test run as soon as it feels completely better, sound idea. Howβs your arsecheekitis, by the way? Have you been doing my stretches? ππ xxx
Well done Sadie. We can only deal with whats in front of us, and your injury will improve in time. I think it would be good to get professional advice even if its starting to feel better. It will give you certainty as to what you have and the best methods of rehabilitation, along with a realistic timescale to work to.
Thanks Stephen. Silly me for taking it so hard, but we do get rather attached to this running lark, eh? π And thank you. More rest and rehab needed but I expect Iβll get there!
Phew, thatβs encouraging. I still get a twinge with my knee and still freak out. What drama queens we runners are. But unfortunately the just a scratch philosophy doesnβt work with running and you are wise to take it slowly. Fingers crossed for you dearest Sadie the Sensible xxx
Oh Iβm glad Iβm not the only one who freaks out at a twinge! π (But I do hope your knee is okay, my lovely.) Drama Queen-itis is one of the less pleasurable side affects of running. π’ π xxx
Iβm so used to trouble with that knee (Iβve had over 50 years of it) that I usually ignore it, but it was so bad earlier this year that Iβm now utterly terrified π³
Thanks Mitch. x Going to see how it feels on Thursday and if still in any way tender, will make an appointment. As I am unemployed at the moment, I am having to be a bit cautious with money, and podiatrists/physios are SO expensive here in London. But I will see someone if this doesnβt continue to improve. And...I think I know how I did it now- overzealous calf raises on a very hard marble floor. I am my own worst enemy sometimes! π π xxx
Thank you Bluebirdrunner x It is definitely much improved, but still not totally right, so swimming it is! (As much as I don't really like swimming!) Funny how after years of being inactive, I now get really antsy if I don't do any exercise. Luckily I have my Pilates and strength training as well as swimming to keep me going.
Hi Sadie-runs ....I have replied at last to your previous post..so now I'm replying to this one....
I took you out on my 10k run on Sunday morning, I thought about you all the time...you sound to be in a better frame of mind today...try not to let it get you down, what you're doing instead will be making you much stronger and will be helping towards that HM goal. I am sure you will be right as rain by Sept because you are being a very sensible Sadie and I wouldn't expect anything less...another big hug is coming your way and, like I said, I am taking you with me on every run I do until you're better....your friend, Bev xxx
Aw, Mummycav π thank you my darling. It's seeing all your lovely people on Strava getting out there and running that is keeping my spirits up! (Well done on your 10k run, by the way, cracking stuff!) It's true, I was in a very dark place on Saturday, and although still not out of the woods, am feeling much cheerier today.
Still have some hope I can make the Sept HM. I have got up to 10 miles (16km) so far, and will be happy to get to 18km in training before the race so as to be confident. I have around 6 weeks until the race (after this week), so even if I need another week's rest, that leaves me 4 training weeks (discounting the week before the race, when I need to taper)...so, I might still make it, foot permitting! Gawd, why did I enter a blooming race! Never again!
In the meantime, get out there and run for me girl! And thank you again. xxx
A million hugs to you dear Sadie. You are one awesome athlete and very dear VRB! Iβm so glad itβs on the mend. Btw I now have a mental image of you sitting there with a piping bag in hand, decorating it. Oh I crack myself up, I really do π€£
Your mention of strength training has spurred me to get my workout mat out and do a core session. If you donβt see it on Strava in under an hour, you have permission to nag me!!
Btw, wee exercises? Do you mean kegels? π€£π€£π€£ Actually I have to do those as part of my core training, along with pelvic tilts to straighten everything. Funny how everythingβs connected... π
LOL! Wee exercises! No. Not those. I have just got into the habit of saying "wee" for "little" as my partner is Scottish.
Thank you for your kind words. I don't think of myself as an "awesome athlete", but it is so nice to hear someone say that. I am quite pleased at how far I have managed to come with my running, but of course, always aiming to improve.
Foot feeling even better today, but I am still resting. With my foot propped up and a new copy of Runner's World to read β I am one happy lass!
I saw you did your core work...well done! I had a session myself this morning. Tomorrow swim and then Saturday, a wee (LOL!) test run for the foot!
Iβm sitting here chuckling to myself like a 6 year old kid. Playground humour. Iβm so immature sometimes lol Iβm really glad your foot is feeling a lot better, youβll smash that HM girl, no doubt in my mind! Canβt wait to see reports of you back running xxx
That sounds a lot better SR !! I am hoping that my calf/ knee thing is fixed too. Sometimes it is amazing the difference a few days can make...and I used to be as bad as anyone for assuming the worst! The start line for your HM beckons ππ
Thank you dearest BC! Yes, resting as soon as it came on gave me a good chance, I think. Given the pain I was in on Saturday I am actually surprised at how quickly it started to feel better with rest and icing. I do hope that you have seen the back of your calf/knee issue too. xxx
You made me laugh, terrorising poor google for the solutions.
Why should I be surprised from one of the terror twins.I will never forget you and Neil out there leading the bridge to 10k.βοΈβοΈππ
Just amazing how far you have come.Hold that thought.πͺ
Every good wish with your recovery and getting sorted.
Must see if NHS Oxford University have a Patient Paper on that, Mortonβs Neuroma π€.
Your tops Sadie, very inspiring,I used to think we all need work for our self esteemπ€,and of course we do,and we need to pay the bills π,time out is good for the soul also, you have loads of healing power in the bank dear Sadie.β€οΈ
Google sleep is our superpower by Matt Walker from the ted lectures.π€
Aw, you are so kind and funny, Tbae ! Yes, Googling can be good and badβ¦I mean, I panicked myself something rotten by Googling the symptoms (and reading horror stories / worst case scenarios), but at the same time, found some good foot exercises to do for suspect Morton's Neuroma. I think that the resting, icing and doing those exercises have speeded up my recovery. Fingers crossed it doesn't flare up when I run againβ¦
The time out from work has been very good for my soul, that is true. I have been working for 24 years with no real break, so this time has been lovely. But, now is the time for me to start putting myself out into the world of work again. CV has been polished!
i do have to stop and remind myself of how far I have come on in my running in the last 2 years sometimes. I have to pinch myself! And thank myself, for actually starting to run and finding something I truly love. This terror twin will return! The other terror 316neil is running and doing very well right now; I am proud of him.)
I hope that all is well with you and your running goals, dear friend.
