Much better!

OK, so this week I decided to include Pomphrey Hill Parkrun into my long run. My plan was to run there, do the parkrun, run on a bit further then run home.

I figured that, since it was part of my long run, I should do the parkrun at the same pace as the rest of my run. Did it work? Oh no! My average pace on the parkrun was 40s/km faster than my average for the overall run. I guess it was something about the whole running in a group thing.

Overall, my pace was 23s/km faster than last week’s long run. There again, I changed quite a bit: it was cooler, I added porridge to my breakfast, I took a water bottle and used it (new running belt), there was a parkrun part way through and I had 2 * 10 minute pauses at the start and end of the parkrun (paused my watch for those). Still, I’m happy with the result and it’s boosted my confidence for my HM.

For what it’s worth: Pomphrey Hill Parkrun includes a short but reasonably steep hill climb and I think the hill training that I’ve being doing paid off.

Hope I haven’t said too much but I’m really pleased with today’s run.

That sounds really positive. It’s much easier running when it’s cooler- the extreme makes your heart work harder and that slows you down

Well done. I also did parkrun at the end of my long run. Maintaining a steady pace in it is not easy 🤣

I keep meaning to give Pomphrey Hill a go SM. It’s close to me, but it keeps slipping my mind. I’m curious about the famous hill! I usually do Eastville or Ashton Court - have you done those? 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃🏃

Sounds like you had a good one yesterday. 👍 It was still pretty warm wasn’t it? I escaped to the coast and did Burnham, but it gave no real reprieve. 🥵

Hi Cheeky. So far, the only other one that I've done is Chipping Sodbury. We usually go out on Friday afternoons so Saturday mornings aren't usually a good time for my running (yesterday was my 2nd parkrun outing ever).

Temperature wise, I think it was a bit cooler ( although it did seem to warm up towards the end of my run - could explain why my pace dropped off in the last 5k).

That’s another I want to try - it’s pretty flat isn’t it? Also Severn Bridge, but you can’t take dogs. ☹️

Well if you’re ever planning on doing another PR anywhere round the West Country let me know! 😀

Looking back on Strava, Chipping Sodbury PR is about 10m from the highest to the lowest; it's the kind of gradient that you might be vaguely aware of but which doesn't really make any difference to the run. I'll let you know when I plan to run another. Must admit, I enjoyed the Pomphrey Hill course so I'm keen to do it again some time.
