Thanks for your responses to the recent poll about speed vs distance challenges. After careful consideration I have decided to run A DOUBLE CHALLENGE FOR AUGUST!!!
★ Both challenges will start on Monday, July 29th and run for 5 weeks, finishing on Sunday, September 1st.

I’m still working on my speed, but I also need to start working on distance with Merlin ready for Beachy Head 10k in October... I may regret it, but BOTH 🤯

I would have said distance but the info post seems to advocate the same routes and all in km which which doesn't really suit so I'll watch from the sidelines. Good luck folks
I think the info post is just for speed. Distance you can do whatever you like, run, swim, cycle etc and just post a total. You can convert to km from miles easily just x miles by 1.609
The info post relates to the speed challenge only.
For the distance challenge you can run, walk, bike and swim anywhere you please 😊 I would appreciate the results in km because I have a lot to do and it saves me time if I don't have to convert people's miles into km - typing 'miles to km' into a Google search should give you a handy tool for it 😊😊😊
I voted for speed but as I’m training for the RP half in October I’m needing to increase Distance!! So DISTANCE it is!
Not much this wee tho. Soooooo hot. Ran a 10K in London last Sunday and running the Lea Valley 10K this coming Sunday. I think my hopes for a PB May have gone with the heat and lack of running this week 😏

Having (almost) finished building distance, I think I'm in a good state for this.
For speed, I'm going to use the 2nd 20 minute interval of my medium run. It's a shame I can't use this week's because my pace collapsed for the 2nd interval. Besides it being too soon, it wasn't on my regular route either but there you go... Maybe it'll be hot again next week.
I will do both!! Still only running 5k at the moment so will do the speed challenge for that. Hoping to gradually increase my distance though so will add in my weekly total - although it will look a bit puny alongside everyone else's! 😁
Sign me up for both. I will be working on my running outide and my swimming.
For speed I will work on my 2k speed. (I will be running outside in the uk, which will be good practice for me. It's also a lot flatter than where I live.
I can add my dog walking to distance challenge ? My phone mixes it all up for walking.

Hi Abi, I’m on for the distance challenge this time around. I sometimes get a bit daft with the speed one and that’s probably not a good idea with the Great North Run just around the corner!
